Ceiling flush mount light using the float finish contour projector housing.
My architect has suggested that I use a flush mount ceiling projector housing for a more sophisticated look. Can you explain to me how your round ceiling flange is finished out? It looks so big and bulky! The Phantom Lighting float finish housing does have a large flange at first glance. However, the outer flange is designed to overlap the sheetrock and provide a solid foundation for the painter to finish. We designed the outer panel that way so that the contractor does not have to use tape to float the joint and to prevent it from cracking should the house settle. Once it is properly floated, the outer ring disappears and only the small hairline crack is visible on the inner cover plate. Click on the image above to enlarge.
When you purchase a flush mount projector housing from a Phantom Lighting distributor you get illustrated floating instructions in both English and Spanish to make the process easy and understandable. The final product is basically up to the painter. If he does a good job, than everybody is happy, including your architect.
For new construction applications, we also provide a handy rough-in ring that can be nailed to the ceiling rafters prior to sheetrock. Once the sheetrock is installed, the housing is inserted into the opening by your electrician and finished out during the floating process by the drywall contractor.
I have to agree with your architect about keeping the ceiling clean. One of the magical properties of using an optical framing projector is hiding the light source.

Low voltage lighting strips use festoon lamps for lighting fine art objects.
Festoon lamps are the primary lamp that is used in Phantom Strip Lights for custom shelf lighting and cabinet lighting applications.
The low profile design of the festoon lamp provides a perfect lamp choice for lighting designers, contractors or home owners in a linear strip lighting system. Festoon lamps come in both incandescent and xenon models. Xenon festoon lamps have a much longer lamp life than their incandescent counterparts going up to 10,000 hours. Used in combination with a dimmer control, Phantom strip lights, with festoon lamps, can provide and a beautiful source of display illumination.
Phantom lighting is currently in design and development of a revolutionary LED festoon lighting that will outperform previous models using LED festoon lamps. The problem with earlier LED lamps has been color and distribution. Those problems will soon be a thing of the past.
Phantom low voltage festoon strip lighting is available in several trim shapes and specific wiring methods to meet your design objectives:
Adjustable Lighting Strips
Cove Lighting Strips
Undercabinet Lighting Strips
Fixed Lighting Strips

Lighting projector uses Rosco steel and custom gobos for creating images and patterns.
Custom gobos and Phantom Contour Projectors are used in virtually every lighting project these days by professional lighting designers.Historically, the use of pattern projectors and image projectors was limited to the theatrical industry because of the size of the equipment. Most theatrical equipment is surface mounted and therefore could not be used in residential and commercial environments. Today, lighting designers have smaller more powerful recessed lighting fixtures such as the Phantom pattern projector to introduce this magical pattern effect into homes, offices, retail spaces and executive conference rooms. In fact, Disney designers rececently used Phantom Contour pattern projectors on the cruise ship "Disney Magic" in the Parrot Cay Restuarant.
Phantom Lighting System has created a custom Gobo holder designed specifically for Rosco Steel Gobos. Rosco Laboratories presently manufactures over 700 standard steel gobo designs that fit perfectly into the Phantom Contour Projector. Manufactured like a stencil, all elements of the design must be connected with tabs to the outer ring of the gobo.
Rosco Laboratories also manufacturers custom silk screened glass gobos made on quartz glass using a unique coating silk-screened onto the base. This "painted" coating allows your design to avoid "tabbing" needed in custom steel gobos. This method is very similar to the hand cut templates that are used to illuminate paintings and sculptures in the Contour projector. Corporate logos can now be projected onto the floor or a wall in both white and full color depending on the design.

Ultraviolet light and infrared light can be detrimental to fine art and oil paintings.
As a curator of a fine art gallery, I am always worried about protecting the art from infrared and ultraviolet light. We have very few windows in the gallery but, I am concerned about the halogen light fixtures we use causing damage over time. Does your Contour Projector produce the same kind of light? The Contour projector has several glass lenses, including a special ultraviolet filter, that eliminate these harmful light rays. That is why you see the Contour framing projector used to light some of the most precious art objects and pictures in the world.
Infrared rays cause the temperature of the paintings surface to rise when the bulb is on, and then drop back to normal after the light has been turned off. If this on/off cycle goes on long enough problems such as fading, cracking, and deterioration of the picture itself can take place. Your artwork can be permanently destroyed because of this.
To learn more about infrared light and ultraviolet light, and how it is created, visit www.phantomlighting.com. Our fine art lighting information section is loaded with helpful information for serious art collectors.

Lighting using low voltage fixtures for display and shelving is effective way to show of art collections.
We recently purchased an antique corner cabinet similar to the one you have in your gallery section. The antique cabinet has two glass front doors and solid wood sides. The shelves are fixed and the back is covered in a dark fabric. Is it possible to illuminate the cabinet with strip lighting and not destroy the integrity of the cabinet?Phantom strip lighting fixtures are custom made to fit just about any cabinet, bookshelf or indirect cove. Whether you are mounting Phantom strip lights horizontal or vertically, the custom trims can be fabricated to perfectly fit. The low profile metal trims completely hide the light even from the most severe angles because each trim has a glare shield to hide the source. A small low voltage transformer is also required to power the lights and can be hidden either above the cabinet or below the cabinet.
Shelves that are fixed and under 30" wide, typically would be done with vertical strip lighting. That is so the fixture can be hidden from normal view and the wires can be concealed as well. Anything over 30" wide requires a special center strip light to prevent a dark center.

Picture lighting using MR16 accent lighting fixtures or optical framing projectors?
We are in the process of building a new home. The builder has suggested that I use MR16 accent lights to illuminate my artwork. I feel that a projector is more suitable for my needs. Do you have any information that I can provide to the builder to show him what I am talking about? Thanks. We do a have a color catalog that illustrates the many ways a Contour Projector can be the most effective way to light your art. MR16 accent lights are some of the most widely used accent lights on the market. They are small, powerful and a very effective tool for lighting art. However, MR16 accent lights do not provide the control or sophistication that projectors do for lighting fine art.
The Contour projector is certainly a big step up from the MR16 lighting fixture. The internal lenses produce a focused light which can be shaped or masked to follow the exact contour of the art. That means only the canvas is lit without spill light on the wall. So, the object takes on a "lighted from within" look that is simply magical. The same is true for lighting sculptures!
Why don't you show your builder our projector comparison page to learn more about how we stack up against the competition. In the meantime, I will forward you a complete binder illustrating both our art lighting equipment as well as our low voltage shelf lighting system.

Lighting blog shows art enthusiasts and collectors the art of fine lighting.
I recently came across your website. WOW, you have some great pictures of your work. I collect fine art and want to use some of your Phantom Contour Projectors to illuminate my collection. Which model do you prefer? All of our fine art projectors are built around a series of unique UL Approved housings. These aluminum housings allow you several mounting options when selecting the right one for your home. My favorite is the float finish housing which has a very custom and clean look. After the cover has been floated, textured and painted to match the ceiling, you can hardly see it. This is particularity helpful when a clean ceiling appearance is desired. The float finish model is one of our most popular.
