Under Cabinet LED Lights

Why have I only now heard about under cabinet led lighting?
Because for a very long time these fixtures had a hard time creating white light that could truly function as a replacement for incandescent sources. If you looked at a countertop lit by led under the cabinet light fixtures, you could almost immediately tell what they were. Many custom home builders and interior designers avoided using them for this reason/ LED was seen new technology with great potential, but not quite ready to take the market. That is, until now.

Are these new undercabinet led lights just as good as xenon?
For all intents and purposes, yes. You won’t be able to tell the difference unless you are a trained lighting professional who works with both types of lighting every day. This is because 12 volt under cabinet LED bulbs can now be manufactured that operate at 2800K color temperature—a very white light akin to sunlight. The more white a light is in this sense, the “warmer” its color temperature is said to be. With a warm color temperature lighting source, you can see the greatest level of color and detail in surfaces such as granite and marble.

Why are Phantom undercabinet let lighting fixtures the best choice for builders to use in custom cabinets?
Aside from the custom nature of the strips themselves, Phantom‘s 2800K festoon lamps combines the newest, warmest color temperature available with previous engineering that differentiated our festoon lamps from all competing equivalents. LED bulbs typically emit lower levels of light than incandescent sources. To compensate for this, Phantom developed a lamping techniques that places three bulbs together in a festoon lamp, thus generating a higher lumens output. Now, with this latest evolution in color temperature, you have both the brightness and the “whiteness” that xenon and incandescent have been famous for. For the first time in ever, energy saving led is now poised to eventually replace all other sources of kitchen cabinet lighting.

What are the other benefits of Phantom’s under cabinet festoon lights?
Well, for one thing you don’t have to order new strips to get new lights if you already have Phantom linear strips in place. The 2800K festoon lamps can be retrofitted to both our vertical and horizontal mounting fixtures. They also work on a number of luxury lighting linear strips that use the festoon lamp design.

With incandescent bulbs being eliminated out by 2010 in places like California, developing LED technology to this new level is just in time for today’s custom home builder to offer greater energy savings and superb aesthetic in a problematic housing market. Fully dimmable and ultra-concealable, these linear cabinet lights will add dimension and accent to any home kitchen. Call Phantom now to learn more about 2800K under cabinet led lighting strips and their many applications for builders, architects, designers, and homeowners alike.

Kitchen Cabinet Lighting

http://www.phantomlighting.com/cabinet-lighting-systems.htmHow decorative do kitchen cabinet lights need to be?
Kitchens today are much more than food storage and preparation areas. They are now central gathering places for home entertainment events and are much larger than ever before. Kitchen cabinet lighting has had to evolve over the years to meet and increasing demand for more than base-level requirements to produce optimal visibility and comfort. Custom cabinet lighting must address certain aesthetic concerns as well such as lighting color and brightness, color rendering of illuminated surface and interior design, and glare free light that will not hurt the eyes of homeowners and guests.

Do you recommend puck lights and fluorescent under cabinet lights?
In some situations they are still useful, but their dominance in kitchen cabinet lighting is beginning to significantly wane. Custom home owners are replacing generic countertop materials with ornate granite and marble—two surfaces that are highly reflective. Although most fluorescent undercabinet lights are housed in frosted fixtures that minimize glare, they lack the color rendering capabilities necessary to do justice to an ornate countertop. Puck lights are too intense for most kitchens and throw a great deal of reflected light outward in all directions.

12 volt undercabinet lights, such as those manufactured by Phantom Lighting, are designed to overcome reflected glare with proprietary shielding on the linear light strips themselves and with directional lighting control that aims the light back and away from the eyes of the viewer.

What types of bulbs can you install in kitchen cabinet lights?
Phantom strips can be fitted festoon lamps housing incandescent, xenon, or LED bulb. Xenon will render color at a level nearly equivalent to sunlight. As a low voltage, dimmable cabinet light fixture, it will bring out the subtlest red of granite and the multi-dimensional hues of marble, and until very recently was the most commonly used festoon in custom kitchen cabinet lighting. However, the new 2800K LED festoon lamps has just entered the market with a color rendering capability that is equivalent to xenon—at only a fraction of the cost.

What types of festoons are best for interior shelf lighting?
Incandescent festoons typically make for the best kitchen cabinet lighting installations. This is because they produce a very white light everything within the interior clearly visible. Unlike puck lights, they occupy no cubic space, leaving more room for storage and a more balanced presentation when the cabinet is opened in front of guests. It is also easier to clean the shelves periodically because Phantom low voltage in cabinet lighting require little external wiring and even allow for shelf removal without risk of shock or equipment damage.

Cabinet Lighting Systems

Low voltage festoon cabinet lighting systems are made for a variety of decorative furnishings and custom cabinets using Phantom’s proprietary linear lighting strips. Everything from displays, book shelves, break fronts, antique cases, armoires, and custom kitchen cabinets can be lit with these systems. The low profile design of a Phantom cabinet lighting strip allows it to hide along the interior of any vertical or horizontal surface. Our patented shelf support and buss bar technology replaces visible wires, making it possible to completely conceal the accent strip lights in most instances. It also allows the shelves to be moved without risk of shock or short circuit. This is important when it comes time to decorate or clean shelving surfaces.

Phantom cabinet lights are the only systems that can be literally customized to the pieces they illuminate with minimum cutting or drilling and maximum lighting control. Linear light strips can be fitted with any number of LED, xenon, and incandescent festoon lamping options to create the color temperature most appropriate to the quality and texture of the furnishing itself and any contents on display within its interior.

Display Cabinet Lighting Systems
Phantom xenon lighting strips can be installed in a wide variety of unique positions to create concealed cabinet lighting systems in display cases, armoires, breakfronts, corner cabinets, and free standing book cases. Because every linear lighting strip is custom cut to the dimensions of an interior horizontal or vertical cabinet surface, it is possible for interior decorators to completely conceal our cabinet lighting systems in most antique and reproduction display cases. For breakfronts and display cases that measure 30” or more in height, vertical strip lights can be installed on the interior surface of the vertical styles. In display cases with more horizontal space than vertical space, professionals can install horizontal strip lights along the interior header. Units with shelves can be lit with wireless cabinet lighting systems installed on the top bottom portion of each shelf. The light shines down onto the shelf below, illuminating both the space between the shelves and the contents of the shelves with a gentle, ambient glow.

However, not every cabinet was made with a lighting system in mind. Many antiques were designed to be enjoyed in the daylight only without any thought given interior illumination at night. We see a lot of this with older breakfronts and antique china cabinets that do not have headers or vertical styles on which to mount our cabinet lights. To work around this challenge, we custom build the display cabinet lights to fit the vertical interior surface of the cabinet door. Even though a visitor will see the fixtures if he or she opens the glass doors, the compact, wireless design of our linear strips and are aesthetically superior festoon lamping configuration make for a presentable look even if the strip lights are momentarily exposed.

Kitchen Cabinet Lighting Systems
Phantom builds both xenon under cabinet lighting and incabinet lighting systems for modern kitchens whose function and aesthetic rely heavily on custom cabinetry. Almost every cabinet will be unique to its own respective kitchen, which is why it is so important to use a cabinet lighting system that is custom manufactured to the precise dimensions of the cabinet under surface or interior. With Phantom in cabinet and undercabinet lighting systems, homeowners experience a number of benefits unavailable from incandescent and fluorescent strip lighting.

For one thing, Phantom strips are made with special glare shields and optics that causes the light to shine from the front of the cabinet and down toward the back. Most linear lights shine from the back to the front, causing light to reflect upward from counter tops and appliances and into a person’s eyes. Guests seated at nearby tables may also be blinded by these fluorescent undercabinet fixtures or incandescent cabinet lights because their line of site lies beneath the underside of the cabinet and directly in the pathway of the light.

Simply by replacing traditional custom cabinet lights and reversing the lighting angle of incidence, our cabinet lighting systems transform glare into reflected ambiance, which can contribute to either a warm aesthetic under the cabinet glow or a gentle warm ambiance within the cabinet’s interior.

Wine Cellar Lighting Fixtures

What fixtures provide the best wine cellar lighting?
Due to both their flexibility and concealment, Phantom linear cove lighting strips make ideal wine cellar lights as both direct and indirect sources of luminance. In closed, very small environments, they perform very well as the primary light source. In larger cellars where people gather together for conversation and wine tasting, they provide excellent accent lighting that emanates from an apparently invisible source.

What is the best way to light a walk in wine cellar that resembles a long closet more than a room?
The best way to light this type of wine cellar is to mount vertical strip lights on either side of the rear interior of the door frame. The light will shine backward and light up the wine racks and bottles displayed along the back wall.

This completely conceals the LED strip lights themselves, and it creates something of a mystical effect because the light seems to come out of the darkness itself and grow stronger as it moves toward the wine.

What is the best way to light a larger wine cellar designed for small gatherings?
That really depends upon the architecture and the style of your wine racks and cabinets. Because of the customized manufacture of Phantom low voltage lighting strips, the possibilities for wine cellar lighting with Phantom custom lighting strips are as many and varied as wine cellars themselves. Xenon linear lighting strips are often mounted along the tops of cabinets to shine light up the wall and onto the ceiling. They can also be used for silhouette lighting by installing them at that back of wine racks, or showcase lighting within the racks to emphasize the wine label.

What type of lamps should we use for our wine cellar light strips?
Your best option is to go with LED 2800K festoon lamps. These make ideal sources of both direct and indirect wine cellar lighting for a number of reasons. 2800K festoons emanate the warmest possible colour temperature available in LED, making them a viable replacement for incandescent and xenon accent lighting sources. It is very important to use LED lights in any wine cellar if at all possible. LED's do not emit harmful UV radiation, and they do not produce heat which can interfere with refrigeration. This makes them harmless to even the oldest and most sensitive of wines in your cellar.

The actual light produced by the 2800K LED replacement festoon lamp is indistinguishable from that of previous, more primitive technologies. It is much more energy efficient, and it is perfect for creating an atmosphere of warmth, colour, and comfort.

How many strip light models does Phantom manufacture?
We make six basic strip light models in total—all of which are intended to be customized to the specific horizontal or vertical specifications of the surface to which they are mounted. The best to order light strips is to contact our main office and send us blueprints of your wine cellar (if available), along with a series of photographs that will help us manufacture linear lighting strips specific to the dimensions, floor plan, ceiling height, racks, and cabinetry of your wine cellar.

Interior Designers

Lighting equipment and lighting design services are very important to Houston decorators. In many cases, the secondary services a decorator brings in under his or her invoice adds a certain specialized expertise decor. With the right levels of light, both glare and shadow are dispelled, and the texture and color of artwork springs to light.

Phantom Lighting Agents are available to help the Houston interior designer utilize some of the world’s most unique and aesthetically superb lighting equipment on the market. While a great many Texas designers are already working with Phantom display lighting products, many are still discovering us for the first time.

If you are currently working with an interior decorator or design firm, we recommend you point them in our direction if they encounter any of the following scenarios relative to fine art and display lighting systems.

Your interior designer will most likely recommend new artwork as part of his or her overall plan for creating a new look within your home.
Private art collections very often transform an interior from plain and livable into a realm of true sophistication. The key is to find lighting equipment that will maximize the impact of your new artwork without damaging the artwork itself or interfering with general room lighting. Any Houston interior designer will tell you that the two biggest challenges encountered in artwork lighting are shadows and glare.

A professional art collector will also add that the greatest technological threat to art lighting is ultraviolet radiation and infrared heat. Incandescent lights tend to produce a great deal of heat, and as energy efficient as fluorescent are, they cannot be used for art lighting.

This is why retail grade art lights of any kind are almost never recommended. Instead, specialized equipment is needed to maximize the presentation of your pieces and prolong the life of the pieces themselves. Phantom Contour Projectors offers your interior design specialist(s) a sophisticated, low profile light source that will both protect and magnify the handwork of its specialists. Consisting of a low profile fixture that hugs the ceiling unobtrusively out of the viewer’s line of site, the Contour art projector lights direct a tightly focused beam of light from a halogen lamp whose luminance has been filtered and stripped of UV an IR radiation. This light remains hidden from view until it strikes the object and causes it to glow with an aura soft, ambient light.

You interior designer can install one or more Contour Projector models (we have six different lines to choose from) to illuminate oils, acrylics, lithographs, prints, professional photography, and 3-dimensional artwork and statuary.

Your interior designer may also install one or more displays in your home.
These display cases might contain anything from antiques to contemporary collectibles. Puck lights and standard linear strip lights often do not work in these environments due to their large physical size they are too difficult to conceal. Linear lighting strips are much better. These lights are easy to control because they are come equipped with dimmers, and often used to evenly distribute illumination and create unattractive combinations of light and shadows to collectibles, and displays.

If your interior designer is facing such a challenge, he or she can contact our Houston headquarters and speak with one of our linear display lighting experts about custom lighting strips.

Phantom shelf lighting strips feature panted glare shields that prevents excessive spill light from dominating the interiors of shelving and cabinets. Festoon lamps housing incandescent, xenon, or led lamps create an ambient glow within displays that enshrouds contents in a radiant luminance. Because each Phantom linear LED light strip is custom fitted to a specific set of dimensions in a shelf, case, valance, or cove, many areas in your home where your interior designer will be working can be showcased magnificently with our linear strips. Their inherently smaller design, combined with our custom manufacturing process, make Phantom display, cabinet, and cove lighting strips virtually undetectable to the naked eye.

Your Houston area designer can apply our linear strips in any number of applications. It is not so much a matter of what you can do with our lighting products, but rather a matter of how the flexibility of our engineering and control mechanisms can function as a direct extension of your interior design consultant’s creativity and sense of aesthetics.

Call us toll free 800-863-1184 to request a CD Catalog, or contact one of our lighting agents today and come see what magic we have in store for you. Hidden Lighting

Hidden lighting creates superior aesthetics and variety in high-end lighting applications. In fine art lighting, anything that distracts the eye will diminish the presentation, so hidden lighting is used focus the viewer’s attention onto the piece instead of itself. In display lighting, hidden fixtures are just as important to lighting rare furnishings and display cases used to house eclectic contents. Without a compact and concealed light source, space becomes limited, and visibility obscured by the fixtures and lighting controls.

Phantom Contour Projector
The Contour Projector gives the collector a truly hidden light in every since of the term. The beam emanating from its lens cannot be seen from any angle of the room, regardless of the position of the viewer. This is a major development in projector technology when comparing projector products. Previous, more primitive equivalents produced a “spotlight” effect, with a beam of light clearly visible to the viewer and excessive spill light that often overpowered the canvas or sculpture. A hidden light beam has both an aesthetic advantage and a technical advantage over this approach. Obviously, art work looks better when there is no visible fixture to clutter the view. More importantly, every work of art can be optimally showcased if the light beam is focused and shaped to fit its unique proportions, texture, color and style.

Phantom Projectors are able to create this effect by focusing white light from a halogen source and passing it through a series of adjustable filters. The filters are set to precisely match the dimensions of a painting or sculpture. When the hidden light from the Contour Projector strikes the art, it suddenly becomes visible as an ambient glow which is called “the lighted from within” effect.

Phantom Linear Strips
While many linear strips can be successfully concealed from the viewer’s line of sight, the equipment used to power them is often difficult to hide. Most hidden strip lights use bulky and cumbersome transformers that are all but impossible to keep out of sight. Wiring is another problem with some hidden lighting strips. Even if the strip itself is not visible, wiring can slip out of wherever they are tucked away and ruin a showcase or display. Truly elegant display lighting and showcase lighting require a hidden source of illumination that not only conceals the strip, but also the electrical components used to power the strip.

Phantom linear LED strip lights were engineered for the design contractor who found larger and more cumbersome pieces to be a frustrating encumbrance to the fine art of interior decorating. Phantom linear strips will work as hidden lights in any display cabinet, bookshelf, breakaway, showcase, cabinet, wine rack, or cove. The key to this diversity in application lies in their basic design. Phantom engineering eliminates visible wiring by conducting electricity along metal shelf standards. It is also powered by a transformer that is much smaller and therefore easier to conceal than those of other strip lights. Perhaps more importantly, each linear light strip is custom manufactured to the precise dimensions of the case, display, rack, or furnishing for which it is intended. This creates a much more seamless and integrated installation of the fixture into its surrounding and hides the light source so effectively that cabinet and display interiors appear to glow with a luminance of their own.

See the Light, Not the Fixture!
This has been our motto from the founding our organization and it summarizes in one sentence the entire purpose of our fine art lighting and display lighting fixtures. With customization and concealment available throughout network of Agents, professional designers, builders, architects, and individual end users can showcase their collections of artwork, collectibles, fine wine, collector’s firearms, private libraries, and even merchandise with our custom hidden lighting products.

Custom Products and Services for Businesses and Homes

With proprietary technology that can be adapted to any art lighting or display lighting environment, Phantom technology represents a marriage of aesthetics and science has made Phantom Lighting a leader in lighting creation that enlightens the mind as much as it enlightens the room.

Phantom Lighting Systems

What Makes Phantom Lighting Unique Among Lighting Fixture Manufacturers?
Phantom Lighting is a unique light fixture manufacturer for a number of reasons. Instead of creating an inventory of generic products that contractors and end users must figure out how to apply to custom needs, Phantom takes a basic model fine art projector or linear lighting strip and customizes it to the environment and needs of the individual client. This allows contractors to specifically address the needs of the end user in a personal fashion, and it allows end users to call their own shots when placing an order through a Phantom Agent. This uniqueness has earned Phantom a reputation for proprietary customization in fine art and display lighting products that have found their way into homes, offices, retail establishments, libraries, and museums throughout North, Central, and South America. The Contour projector has experienced worldwide acclaim for its magical “lighted from within” effect, and our linear display lighting strips are equally renowned for their near invisible presence, low voltage power savings, and wireless conduction of electricity.

Phantom leads the lighting industry in a pioneer of user-customization and technical optimization for commercial and residential illumination.

What Makes Phantom Contour Projectors Unique?
First of all, the Phantom combines a high-powered halogen light source with a complex, easily adjustable set of filters that keep the light free from UV and infrared radiation. Phantom manufactures five Contour Projector models that can be custom installed into any ceiling, seamlessly, without damage to the surrounding structure. Furthermore, each of these models is also designed to not only avoid any harm to the ceiling structure, but to also conceal its visible presence from the eye of the casual viewer. Clients who are looking for a sheik, sophisticated and professional presentation of their fine art collection can rely upon this art lighting projector to showcase the maximum value of their artwork and to also provide special effect and mood-related lighting upon command.

Can Phantom fine art projectors showcase rare and valuable paintings?
Yes. Because of the Contour fine art projectors amazing ability to filter out UV and ultraviolet light, collectors in both private and public arenas rely upon Phantom projectors to showcase and protect their most rare and valuable paintings. Phantom Projectors also produce a superior spectrum of light that rivals natural light with none of is deleterious effects.

How do other forms of art appear when lit with a Contour fine art projector?
Photography, pastels, personal oils, and watercolors will look superb both in color and in depth when illuminated by the Contour’s “lighted from within” effect.

This phenomenon is produced by passing the light through a series of lenses and filters that makes the beam itself invisible until it strikes the surface of a painting or sculpture.

Lighting Gallery

What Makes Phantom Linear Cabinet Lights Unique?
Phantom custom cabinet lights are unique in their ability to conceal their physical appearance and also in the unique way they conduct electricity. Our linear cabinet lighting strips do not use visible wires to power their lamps, but rather use existing metal shelf standards to conduct low voltage electricity safely and reliably. Each AC Series linear strip is custom cut to the exact dimensions of the vertical or horizontal surface to which it will be mounted. One of our six model lines is actually designed to be mounted to curved surfaces and can be fitted to any cove or vaulted ceiling in a home or office.

Your choice or xenon, incandescent, or LED lamps will be installed in your linear strip at the time of manufacture, and these lamps will be fitted to festoon mounts than can be individually replaced if a bulb fails so you do not have to replace the entire strip light. See how our festoon lamps compare between lamp types.

How well do these linear strips perform as cabinet lights?
In most cabinet lighting and under cabinet lighting applications, Phantom linear strips are ideal for commercial and residential environments. Because of their “adjustable shelf” technology, they can work with any type of custom shelving found in cabinets, commercial displays, residential armoires, and bookshelves. Three different lamping options are available as well: incandescent, xenon, and super power-saving LED. Phantom cabinet lighting strips can be manufactured as 12V linear strips that maximize energy conservation without compromising the intensity or quality of the light. They also feature dimmer controls that allows for instantaneous adjustment of brightness levels. This makes them ideal low voltage night lights in custom kitchens, break rooms, and bathroom vanity areas. They are also a favorite of librarians and antique dealers, who find the low ambient lighting they emit to be ideal for producing decorative effects that enhance the appearance of rare hardbacks and collectibles.

Is Low Voltage Display Lighting Really That Important?
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of low voltage cabinet lighting installations. Incandescent and xenon bulbs can run up a light bill very quickly, but when regulated by a low voltage transformer, produce the same quality of light at a fraction of the power. This is good for both the environment and for the pocketbook, and it is also ideal for the corporation seeking LEED certification. This is especially true when considering cove lighting fixtures.

Combining a low voltage strip with an LED lamp compounds power savings with the latest and most sophisticated science of illumination to date.

LED Light Bulbs
LED festoon lamps can be installed in Phantom cabinet lighting, display lighting, or cove lighting strip at the time of manufacture. LED light bulbs last longer than any other form of bulb, can render the full spectrum of light, including white light, and require only 20% as much electricity as other bulb types. Combine that with a low voltage strip that is already designed for power savings, and you have the most sophisticated and energy conscious cabinet or display lighting strip that current technology allows.

LED replacement festoon lamps can also be ordered separately and retrofitted to existing linear strips. Ask a Lighting Agent about the benefits of festoon lamp replacement as a possible contributor toward LEED certification.

Cove Lighting Fixtures

What is the best way to light exposed truss beams using your lighting strip?
Indirectly lighting the top of an exposed beam or between truss sections can be a very effective form of ambient mood lighting. Depending on the shape or style of the truss construction, more than one section of cove lighting must be used to completely illuminate the structure. Because Phantom fixtures are low profile and flexible cove lights, they can be custom fabricated to fit most designs. Small blocks or strips of wood can be strategically placed inside the truss members to completely conceal the light source. Upon installation, the lights may be shimmed or repositioned to alleviate shadows and to expand lighting coverage across the ceiling.

We actually build every cove lighting fixture according to the dimensions of the mounting surface. To ensure a seamless fit to trusses and curved ceilings, our strip lights feature a unique engineering design that allows them to be molded to fit any radius, or bent to a full 360 degrees when necessary.

What size groove should I route into the top of the beam to conceal your cove lighting fixtures?
We recommend that you install a 1-1/2” wide x 1-1/2” deep groove in the top of the beam. This allows enough room for heat dissipation, beam spread and height to fine tune the lighting eliminating seeing the source from severe angles. During cove light construction, provisions must be made to allow for wiring to and from the remote transformer during installation. For existing beams, small strips if wood can be added on top of the beam to conceal the lights and low voltage wiring to and from the remote transformer may be surface mounted and concealed.

What is the best wattage lamp to use if I have a dark wood ceiling?
Dark wood ceilings do not reflect light well and require higher levels of illumination compared to a white drywall ceiling, for example. You can offer business owners and residents a wide range of lighting choices and effects with Phantom CM cove lighting fixtures. Lamp options for our linear strips include 3 watt, 5 watt, and 10 watt Incandescent festoon lamps (rated for 7,500 hours) or Xenon festoon lamps (rated for up to 20,000 hours).

We recommend that you use 10-watt, 24-volt lamps spaced 4: on center for best results. For hard to reach areas or where routine maintenance is a concern, one should use LED energy saving lamps. Click here to compare festoon lamp specifications.

Are cove lighting fixtures from Phantom lighting dimmable?
Yes, all Phantom lighting strips are manufactured to operate on a dimmer control. As a leading linear light manufacturer, we feel it is important for not only aesthetics, but for energy saving and to extend the lamp life of the Xenon, incandescent or LED festoon light bulbs.

Incandescent lamps are generally preferred by home builders who need a warm color lighting source over an interior soffit or custom cove. Xenon lamps, due to the exceptional quality of the white light they produce, are also the favorite source of display lighting for commercial lighting designers. LED festoons are made with a patented 3-bulb design that allows their luminance to closely approximate the luminance of xenon lamps. Older festoons can be removed and new Phantom festoon light bulbs can simply be snapped into place—provided, of course, that the existing linear cove light fixtures are low voltage and support the festoon lamping design.

How far away can I position the low voltage transformer from the cove lighting fixtures?
We recommend that you try and locate the transformer 20-30 feet from the lighting strips to avoid voltage drop problems. Voltage drop is a condition where the lights appear dim due to inadequate voltage supplied from the transformer. This is caused by improper wire size which restricts the flow of current causing this unfavorable condition. To assist our clients and contractors we have a helpful and informative voltage calculation chart complete with fusing requirements in our low voltage transformer literature.

How do I know what wire size to use from my transformer to the cove lighting fixtures?
We suggest using a wire gauge matched to the secondary fuse(s) on your Phantom transformer. Of course, length of run, wire size and operating voltage may require some engineering to determine the correct size. Any qualified electrician or lighting agent will be able to assist your with these calculations.

The following are some of the common wire sizes:

#14 gauge wire - 15 Amps
#12 gauge - 20 Amps
#10 gauge wire - 30 Amps
#8 gauge wire - 40 Amps

Our lighting manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas with professional lighting sales agents located throughout the United States that enable us to service all of Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America and the United States including Washington DC, Nashville Tennessee, Reno Nevada. Portland Oregon, Oklahoma City Oklahoma, Tucson Arizona, Los Angeles California, Atlanta Georgia, and Palm Springs California.

Cove Lighting Construction

Linear light strips are idea cove lights to install in new construction projects. Most public buildings, new houses, and new office buildings have some type of cove or variance at or near the ceiling. Installing cove lighting in these areas adds aesthetic and contributes an additional functional element to the building-- provided you use a flexible cove lighting source that can be adapted to virtually any environment. It also adds value to new construction pricing when you install a cove lighting source that can be controlled by the user, and that you can have custom made to seamlessly mount to any environment and any radius bend. Phantom linear cove lighting strips fulfill all three of these requirements in the form of a low-profile and flexible light strip that will fit in building coves as small as 3” from the ceiling and wall.

In new construction homes and offices that have extraordinarily narrow coves or valances, linear strips offer a distinct advantage over fluorescent light fixtures. Fluorescent transformers and fixtures are clearly visible in these narrow coves and can detract from the ambiance effect of the light itself. The same quality of lighting can be achieved with a Phantom cove light without revealing its visible presence. It can be field cut or notched to bend and follow any radius along a serpentine cove. Its narrow design also makes it ideal for kitchen soffits, beam trusses, and valances.

Phantom cove lights utilize remote magnetic transformers concealed from normal viewing angles. These low voltage transformers are fully dimmable and allow the end user to dim the lights at will for accent lighting. This offers the facilities manager or homeowner the added value of minimized maintenance through prolonged bulb and fixture life over such products as cove light rope.

Further value is added with your choice in lamp types. Cove lighting fixtures by Phantom can be fitted with incandescent, xenon, or LED festoon lamps. If you are working on any level with new construction LEED certification, you really want to take the time to look at our proprietary LED festoon lamping technology. We have created a lamp design that combines multiple bulb combinations into a single festoon unit that can be fitted to any cove lighting strip. These festoon lamps are so efficient they rival the lumens output of incandescent lamps and nearly approximate those of xenon. This gives the lighting designer who is bidding an install for a new construction project the full range of cove lighting accent options ranging from cool and warm color accents to state-of-the-art green technology that mimics traditional technology with minimal forward throw heat and 80% less the total power costs.

No cove is designed or manufactured the same, and the professionals at Phantom can assist with design development as well as engineering retrofit applications. Phantom Lighting energy saving LED festoons can act as replacements to lamps in existing linear strips provided certain compatibility requirements are met. Power leads can also be ordered to accommodate unique wiring runs, and to balance loads to secondary transformer fusing. The greatest benefit you will gain from our unique approach to cove lighting is a very precise and custom approach to applied technology housed within a fixture that is pure aesthetic on the surface, pure engineering underneath.
Phantom Agents will help you decide which cove lighting options will best meet the needs of your current construction project and act as liaisons between you and the factory to place your order and arrange for drop shipping to your site.

Building Cove Lighting

Cove lighting in buildings is a great way to accent variances in ceiling elevation or variances in the adjoining space between the upper portion of the wall and the ceiling. Cove lights can be used as either the primary lighting source in the room, or a luxurious and ambient source of accent lighting. Because this form of luminance has become so popular in custom homes, many builders install rope lights or fluorescent fixtures. Both of these cove lights are very energy efficient, with rope lights also offering the building contractor a lower purchase cost. However, there are some drawbacks to both light sources. Cove rope lights operate in a series, so if one bulb fails, the entire rope light will need to be replaced. This will pose hassle to the new homeowner, who will have to find a lighting designer or electrical contractor to replace the string. Fluorescents have a much longer lamp life in comparison, and they can offer quality lighting at a fixed level. Fluorescents cannot be dimmed, however, making them incompatible with lighting controls and dimmers.

In buildings and homes where users want a controlled and flexible source of cove lighting that will save power and provide a long-term, low maintenance source of general or ambient lighting, linear strips are a much better choice for builders, architects, and electrical contractors to install. One of the primary advantages that low voltage lighting systems offer over other lights sources is a concealed presence. Strip lights such as the Phantom CM series are extremely thin and can fit into any soffit, cove, or valance in an office or home. These fixtures are designed to keep a low profile in cove lighting applications and feature a remarkable adaptability to any commercial or residential environment. They can be fitted to any radius desired because they are custom cut to the exact specifications of the contractor. This ensures the most seamless fit possible to produce the special sourceless lighting Phantom has become known for.

With energy costs rising, it is also important to point out the power saving benefits that Phantom CM cove lighting offers to any building or residence that is conscious of electrical costs. Low voltage linear lighting strips are a significant solution to high price points that people have to pay for the luxurious qualities of xenon lighting. An added benefit that low voltage strips offer is the extended lamp life they create. Provided that natural lighting levels are relatively low in the room, the lights can be powered up to full and provide a primary light source over a foyer or a hallway without fear of running up the light bill. When other lighting is in use, they can be turned down to provide ambient, supplemental lighting.

This type of controllable, low voltage xenon cove lighting is often found in buildings and homes that feature faux painted ceilings or detailed block paneled ceilings. For warm ceiling colors, we recommend using incandescent lamps, and for cooler colors or very dark colors of wood, xenon lamps. Both sources will provide an excellent source of controlled lighting that the end user can adjust at will.

If you are working in California, or another locale that discourages the installation of incandescent fixtures due to pending laws, we recommend installing LED linear strip. LED lamps are available for all Phantom linear fixtures, including CM series cove lights. These unique, patented festoons offer the commercial builder and electrical lighting designer a “green solution” to pass onto clients interested in lowering operating costs and contributing to a more sustainable future. Phantom’s unique lamping technology allows white or colored LEDs with a lumens output equivalent to that of incandescent and nearly approximate to xenon. It might be best to propose to your clients the advantages of investing in LED replacement lamps now rather than later.

If you have been hired to replace existing linear cove lights in a building with a better or more energy efficient solution, you can save your client a great deal of money by simply replacing the lamps in their existing fixtures. Provided these fixtures are currently using festoon style lamps, you can obtain LED festoon lamps from one of our Agents and simply to the existing cove lighting strips in the building. This is an excellent way to win bids with companies worried about the costs of upgrades in the midst of the recession.

Boardrooms, halls, restaurants, private clubs, and meeting rooms are some of the many areas where commercial building cove lighting may be used with success. Call an Agent today for more information on Phantom CM custom cove lights for buildings and homes.

Flexible Cove Lighting

Phantom’s unique linear strip light fixture engineering allows the product to be field cut for right angles, radius bends or serpentine applications. This allows our fixtures to be used as flexible cove lights in environments too difficult to fit standard, pre-manufactured linear strips. Regardless of the bend or angle in the ceiling, flexible Phantom lighting installations can seamlessly fit ceiling interiors, valances, and foyers. Many contractors will also install CM series linear cove lights in kitchens above custom cabinets in order to provide an ambient wash of light along the ceiling, and to compliment the illumination of cabinet lighting.

Phantom’s agent services and low voltage manufacturing processes are extremely contractor-friendly and highly flexible. Cove light fixtures are custom manufactured after an extensive consultation with an Agent. The Agent will gather data things such as foot candle minimum requirements, interior design themes, and interior structural keynotes that distinguish the interior architecture of a home or office. This data is further used to determine the exact dimensions for the cove lights themselves as well as the low voltage transformer requirements. After manufacture, the finished product will be shipped in sections labeled for easy installation in the field.

Unlike fluorescent cove lights or rope cove lights which are clearly visible to the viewer, Phantom’s flexible cove lighting strips can be repositioned inside the cove itself and hidden from normal viewing angles. This ability to conceal our light sources led to the origin of our company name-“Phantom”-because the apparently sourceless light our flexible linear cove lights and display lights generate adds mystique and eclectic accent to any room or display. Because of the way our strips reflect the light off the ceiling in a more diffused, even pattern of dispersal, they also do a much better job of overcoming unsightly shadows that may occur from more awkwardly positioned, bulky, and less flexible cove accent lighting fixtures.

Unlike cove rope lights which are wired in series, Phantom uses a parallel wiring method. This means that individual festoon lamps may be replaced if a bulb happens to fail. Contractors who are building out large custom homes should think twice about installing rope lights in ornate and eclectic residences. New homeowners will not like the inconvenience of having to replace an entire string of rope lights when a single bulb fails. Phantom offers a much more convenient and cost-effective method of both maintenance and future upgrades. Thanks to a patented engineering design, our lamping technology is far more original, user friendly, and flexible as an accent lighting tool. Cove light strips by Phantom are manufactured using a heavy duty galvanized steel trim with individual festoon sockets with standard and custom on center spacing. This enables individual lamp replacements without the hassle and cost of replacing the entire cove lighting fixture itself. It also offers additional advantages and flexibility for cove lighting upgrades. Incandescents can be upgraded to xenon or LED light bulbs by simply leaving the cove lights in place and switching out the festoon lamps.

Phantom linear cove lights are designed for flexibility and versatility in a wide range of residential and commercial settings where ambient, sourceless down light is required to contribute to an eclectic sense of decorum. Phantom cove light fixtures are fully dimmable and can be linked to automation or lighting control systems so the home owner or office manager can manipulate them at will.

Wireless Undercabinet Lights

What are wireless under cabinet light?
Most retail grade wireless under cabinet lights battery-powered strip lights strips that provide basic display lighting with unencumbered mobility. When decorators need to remove shelves for whatever reason, they can move the shelves with the light fixtures still attached without breaking a circuit or damaging the equipment. The drawback to using battery-operated wireless cabinet lights is you don’t get the best quality lighting. These lights typically feature only one or two light settings, and they often fail to render details and patterns beyond basic, primary colors.

To go beyond these basics, you have to use commercial grade wireless under cabinet light fixtures designed for specific types of display shelving and adjustable display cases.

Do all linear strips utilize wireless technology?
Custom linear lighting strips are abundant in the lighting industry, so the linear strip itself is not the golden goose of lighting per se. To give the level of quality and flexibility that eclectic display lighting requires, the basic linear strip design had to be modified to some extent. The first thing that had to be changed was the size of the transformer itself. Many shelf lights operate off low voltage transformers that offer the end user considerable savings on energy. However, these transformers were bulky and difficult to conceal. If the transformer could be made smaller, and reduced to a size that allows it to be placed in a concealed location behind the cabinet, then the overall size of the strip lighting fixture could then be reduced to create a truly unique and flexible source of wireless under cabinet and display cabinet lighting.

This is exactly how Phantom linear strips were designed. Engineered to operate with low voltage transformers that hide themselves from normal viewing angles, Phantom wireless under the cabinet lights are slimmer than most standard linear fixtures and use existing metal shelf standards to power festoon lamps, thus eliminating the need for traditional wires and concealing their presence in the process.

What applications can Phantom Wireless Cabinet Lights be used for?
Phantom Lighting low voltage linear lighting strips work for any types of custom cabinet, display and task lighting applications. The most popular wireless cabinet light strips made by this unique Houston cabinet lighting manufacturer are the AE Series strip lighting (Adjustable wireless display lighting for remodel applications) and AC Series strip lighting (Adjustable wireless under shelf lights for new applications) series models. The AE series is mostly used in remodel and new model display lighting where exposed metal shelf supports are desirable. The AC series is mostly used in new shelving projects where the metal shelf supports are completely concealed. Both of these fixtures can be used as either wireless cabinet or under the shelf cabinet lights depending on the type of display case you intend to illuminate.

Are these lights made for home or commercial use?
Actually, they work equally well in both environments. Phantom wireless xenon cabinet lighting fixtures can light any home or office display cabinet when superior lighting effects and controllable light sourcing is needed. Because these are low voltage devices fitted with dimmers, any desired lighting level can be conveniently set by the user. Every wireless cabinet light is custom cut to the exact dimensions of the display case in order to ensure a seamless fit and presence that is invisible to normal angles of view. These xenon low voltage strips lights are ideal for bookshelves in private libraries, trophy cases in the living room, office award displays, retail displays, and collectible cases of any kind.

Again, customization is the key to getting the most out of these wireless cabinet lights. You can have them fitted with your choices of incandescent, xenon, or LED festoon lamps in order to achieve optimal color rendering and ambient lighting effects appropriate to display contents. As a leading undercabinet lighting manufacturer, we are glad to custom fabricate lighting for all types of custom and antique furniture. Our LED replacement festoon lamps operate at 12 volts and are designed as a direct replacement for incandescent and xenon lamps.

Kitchen Cove Lighting

Is the kitchen really a good place for cove lighting?
Yes. The kitchen actually has a variety of interior architectural features that provide cove or cove light structures in which to mount concealed linear light strips. The space above cabinets is an excellent location for installing a Phantom CM series linear strip. These strips are much slimmer and keep a much lower profile that standard fluorescent over cabinet lights. In both instances, this has the effect of causing light to flow along the surface of the ceiling, reflecting downward onto counter tops and tiles as it gently fades toward the ceiling center.

Phantom cove lighting strips can also be custom cut to the exact dimensions of kitchen valances and installed above them with concealed transformers that hide their visible presence. The light then shines up the wall from the window and fills the top corner space between the wall and the ceiling. If the kitchen has been designed with ledges or coves along the top of the wall, CM cove lights can be custom cut to the exact dimensions of these structures and manufactured to fit any radius specified by the general contractor or lighting designer.

What type of light do cove lights produce?
Cove lights in kitchens, like they do in all rooms, shine light up toward the ceiling. This light is diffused along the ceiling surface, spreading out evenly in a warm, gentle glow that adds to general lighting and creates its own subtle mood shifts toward the ambient. Cove rope lighting is another low output and effective cove lighting product.

Can kitchen cove lights be adjusted?
Yes. All Phantom linear lighting strips are dimmable and operate with wireless technology. Linking them to switches allows them to work in tandem with cabinet and under cabinet lights. This allows a homeowner to create anything from supplemental general lighting to warm tones of subtle mystique. If the cove lights in the kitchen are fitted with low voltage xenon lamps or energy saving LED festoons, the homeowner can produce special effects and variances in color and count on saving money in the process. Some people even choose to leave their low voltage cove lights and under cabinet lights throughout the night, simply turning them down rather than completely turning them off.

For people who entertain at home and have a high frequency of visitors and family coming over, using kitchen cove lights as accent lighting helps provide just enough light for late night visits to the kitchen or quiet, private conversations after parties, formals, and reunions.

What lamp types can work in kitchen lighting strips?
If the kitchen has interior recessed halogen picture lights, incandescent cove lighting provides an excellent supplemental lighting source, and xenon will add a bit of a “golden” aura to the interior architecture. Xenon low voltage lamps should be used if the counter tops are made from marble or granite with “cool” colors like deep reds or blues. Incandescent lamps do better with white and off-white counter tops and cabinets.

A third lamping option is LED, and provides possibly the best all around source of accent lighting, period. Operating at only a fraction of the cost of incandescent and xenon, LED festoon lamps can light both warm and cool colors and can also be manipulated to produce some outstanding special lighting effects. Even better, they can last anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000 hours and save homeowners a great deal of hassle and money on replacement costs. One of the many advantages of Phantom LED accent lights is the interchangeability of the festoon lamps.

Should a homeowner initially purchase their strip lights with incandescent or xenon lamps and later wishes he or she had invested in LED, the lamps themselves can be individually replaced without having to install new strip lights. Our lighting manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas with professional lighting sales agents located throughout the United States that enable us to service all of Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America and the United States including Washington DC, Nashville Tennessee, Reno Nevada. Lighting Fixture Manufacturer

What Makes Phantom Lighting Unique Among Lighting Fixture Manufacturers?

Phantom Lighting is a unique low voltage light fixture manufacturer for a number of reasons.

Phantom leads the art lighting manufacturing industry in a pioneer of user-customization and technical optimization for commercial and residential illumination.

No other commercial lighting manufacturer can make that claim.
