Cabinet Lighting Remodeling Ideas

Do I have to buy new cabinet lighting when I remodel my house?
You don’t when you work with Phantom Lighting. If you already have linear cabinet lights in your kitchen, over-the-counter areas, bathroom cabinets, and decorative displays, forget about having to spend money on all new equipment.

With Phantom’s latest generation of LED festoon lamps, you can simply purchase new LED festoon lamps and retrofit them to your existing cabinet lighting fixtures. You will start saving money immediately on two levels.

The first savings will be seen in reduced electrical cost to operate this new generation of lamps. You see, each lamp needs only 0.6 watts of power to produce a level of brightness equivalent to that of a xenon or incandescent decorative lamp.

The second savings you will see is a reduced cooling cost. One watt of power equals 1 BTU of heat, so you are already paying more than you think on any festoon-based cabinet lighting system that operates at 1 watt per lamp or higher.

These new LED lamps that we have developed produce virtually no heat, so no matter how long you operate them, they will not overheat their immediate environment, nor will they overheat the room. This will lower your air conditioning costs noticeably, if not significantly.

Where can I go and buy these new cabinet lighting bulbs?
Call our office toll free at 800-863-1133 or request a quote or contact a local lighting distributor.

My remodeling contractor has already offered replacement bulbs at a discount. What should I do?
Have a conversation with us first to obtain all the necessary technical data on our new product. Show this to you builder. The same thing goes with your interior decorator if you are working with a specialist in design. Present this information (all of which you can download or bookmark on our website) to your contractor and politely insist that they install the festoon retrofits of your choosing.

If your contractor wants to bill the retrofit under his or her invoice, reassure him or her we will sell direct to them and allow them to bundle our product under our invoice. As a cabinet lighting manufacturer, our sales are geared toward both the contractor and the homeowner based upon project, need, or demand.

What decorative advantages do your cabinet lighting festoons offer that no other kinds do?
The lumens output of these lamps is superb. Previous generations of LED were challenged in their ability to produce a light that was bright enough to compete with fluorescent, incandescent, and xenon equivalents.

We solved this problem by building a single lamp that contains 6 diodes per lamp housing. The combined light output easily equals that of any source you may currently be using under your cabinets or inside your collectibles display.

The color temperatures of these lamps are equally superb, ranging from the cool 5,000K to the warm 2,700K which for all intents and purposes is identical to xenon quality.

Lighting Cabinets & Bookshelf Lights

Why Cabinet Lighting is Necessary?
Cabinet lighting, by definition, is the illumination of the interior of a cabinet. By implication as well, it also refers to the illumination of the contents of such a display.

Such a display can exist for purely ornamental purposes. We often see fine antiques and curios showcased in antique reproductions and tall cabinets with non-mirrored back planes. Other displays may serve a more functional purpose, as we see in residential kitchen cabinets that are built with windows that allow you to see view the fine cookware and dinnerware stored within.

Regardless of the intent of the display, however, custom cabinet lighting solutions are needed regardless. Even the brightest of room lights are insufficient when it comes to lighting a closed interior space that is often covered by a glass plane in the front. Add to this the presence of vertical styles and shelves, and you can see very quickly how any attempt to light contents with an external light source would result in much of their surface area being obscured by shadows.

Such shadows are even more pronounced and magnified if housed behind closing doors. Glass windows will still dim the light to some degree, and the wooden frame of the door itself creates a criss-cross of obstructions to light.

It is clearly evident then that display cabinet lighting is an absolute must if you are going to create any type of showcase or display that offers clear visibility to the observer and contributes aesthetic value to the room.

Most designers agree that the best source of display lighting can be found the form of linear strip lights that mount on the interior surfaces of shelves and door frames. Phantom low voltage cabinet strip lights are the best of their kind for this type of application because they are custom-built to the exact dimensions of the surfaces on which they mount and offer a multiplicity of lamping options that are fully dimmable and super energy efficient.

Lighting Antique Corner Cabinets

Corner cabinet lighting can present some unique challenges to the carpenter and the designer. On an aesthetic level, one has to precisely match the color temperature of the light to the contents on display to most appropriately showcase their color and form. On a functional level, the designer must select corner cabinet lights that offer some means of controlling heat buildup within the cabinet interior, or install a light source that will produce less heat without sacrificing lighting levels or lighting quality.

To better understand how the present generation of corner cabinet lights evolved in the first place, we need to take a look at back in history. In the very beginning, there were only incandescent lights. Corner cabinets were originally built with hand soldered incandescent lighting strips built into the displays themselves. Incandescent was and still is the closest match to natural sunlight, so early corner cabinet lighting solutions produced a luminance that was incredibly “golden” in tone and ideal for lighting fine antiques and rare collectibles. However, these lights produced considerable heat output that was further magnified by glass door enclosure. Also, incandescents only lasted for a short period of time. Even to this day, incandescent bulbs of any kind suffer from the shortest lamp life on the market.

To create a light source with longer lamp life, cabinet lighting manufacturers began to develop a new, hybrid form of incandescent light called xenon. They also developed dimmer controls that would allow display owners to raise and lower lighting levels at will. Xenon still had the slightly golden appearance of incandescent lights, only with a slightly lighter, whiter tone. It quickly became the new standard in custom cabinet furniture lighting, and the new technology of the dimmer control allowed for forward throw heat to be directly controlled for the first time. The only disadvantage to this, however, was that reducing heat meant reducing the level of light. For some very elaborate antique and collectible displays, this meant creating too much darkness for maximum aesthetic.

The ultimate solution to all of these concerns came with the most recent development in corner cabinet lighting-- LED technology. LED allows us now to create much higher lighting levels with less heat. The patent pending Phantom LED festoon lamp, for example, is a 1.7 watt unit that emits the equivalent of 5 watt xenon bulb. However, the heat generated in the production of light is dissipated by a heat sink that draws heat away from the cabinet interior. Additional benefits of LED technology are the longest lamp life of any light source and a power consumption of only 20%-40% that of previous technologies.

Ranging in terms of the warmest to coolest, LED festoons are available in color temperatures 2800K, 2950K and 5000K. Of course, Phantom has a policy never to limit the choices of our clients for display cabinet lighting. Some decorators have already determined specific ambient qualities they wish to create that require xenon or incandescent strip lights. For such clients, we recommend the use of dimmer controls to control heat, and we also suggest that lights be turned off for periods of time. Also, our engineers strongly recommend that for lighting closed corner cabinets with glass doors, one should use xenon bulbs rated at 3 or 5 watts. Anything more than that will generate too much heat buildup to effectively control without sacrificing luminance and aesthetics.

Our home lighting manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas, which in turn distributes these specialty linear lights through a nationwide network of lighting supply channels, distributorships, and sales agents in cities such as Rhinelander, WI (RHI), Yakima, WA (YKM), Windsor Locks, CT (BDL), Mason City, IA (MCW), Sault Ste Marie, MI (CIU), Binghamton, NY (BGM), Lawton, OK (LAW), Pasco, WA (PSC), St Cloud, MN (STC), and Hyannis, MA (HYA). We also service clients internationally, with lighting manufacturer representatives working out of Canada, Mexico, Central America, and South America.

Low Voltage Cabinet Lighting Fixtures

Meeting commercial expectations requires a constant awareness of the bottom line. Because many commercial environments such as break rooms need the lights left on throughout the day, owners are very tempted to request fluorescent under cabinet lights that are adequate in luminance and cheap to operate. You might want to point out to these clients that custom low voltage under cabinet lighting strips can be just as cost effective and prove an equally effective source of light. Low voltage incandescent festoons make for excellent task lights and produce a much finer, whiter light that compliments almost any countertop.

Phantom Xenon linear strip lights are low profile fixtures that hide beneath the front of the cabinet’s underbelly, shining the light back and away from the eyes. This reduces uncomfortable, reflective glare. They are also completely dimmable, which makes them even more effective than fluorescents in controlling energy costs. Because these devices replace visible wiring with metal shelf supports and buss bars, cleaning crews can remove shelves to dust them without fear of damaging the lighting strips or shocking themselves. Our smaller magnetic cabinet lighting transformers also make for easy installation and concealment, so the light appears to be sourceless as it emanates from under the cabinet or from within its interior.

Phantom linear light strips for low voltage under cabinet lighting are custom made to the exact specifications of cabinet undersurfaces and cabinet interiors. Installation will be simple and without unforeseen complications when you work with a US Phantom Lighting sales representative. Your Agent will relay the vertical and horizontal length requirements of the linear strips you request to our manufacturing facility. This will ensure a seamless fit with no complications.

Business owners will not only be amazed at the apparently magical light produced by our low voltage cabinet lights, but they will be impressed with the savings, to say the least. Low voltage lighting strips combine optimal lumens output with maximum energy savings. New 2800K LED festoon light bulbs have just emerged on the market as well. These new lamps mimic the color renderings of incandescent light and operate on only 20% the power needed by incandescents and xenon lamps. Add the innate power savings of LED to a dimmable, concealable light source, and you have low voltage under cabinet lighting exponentially multiplied through engineering combined with user-friendly control.

Through a partnership with Phantom Lighting, you can pass on direct savings to your clients, and you can also accommodate them with user friendliness and a wide variety of lamping and color temperature options that can make low voltage under cabinet light installations a source of premier luxury lighting at only a fraction of standard lighting costs.

Kitchen Cabinet Lighting

http://www.phantomlighting.com/cabinet-lighting-systems.htmHow decorative do kitchen cabinet lights need to be?
Kitchens today are much more than food storage and preparation areas. They are now central gathering places for home entertainment events and are much larger than ever before. Kitchen cabinet lighting has had to evolve over the years to meet and increasing demand for more than base-level requirements to produce optimal visibility and comfort. Custom cabinet lighting must address certain aesthetic concerns as well such as lighting color and brightness, color rendering of illuminated surface and interior design, and glare free light that will not hurt the eyes of homeowners and guests.

Do you recommend puck lights and fluorescent under cabinet lights?
In some situations they are still useful, but their dominance in kitchen cabinet lighting is beginning to significantly wane. Custom home owners are replacing generic countertop materials with ornate granite and marble—two surfaces that are highly reflective. Although most fluorescent undercabinet lights are housed in frosted fixtures that minimize glare, they lack the color rendering capabilities necessary to do justice to an ornate countertop. Puck lights are too intense for most kitchens and throw a great deal of reflected light outward in all directions.

12 volt undercabinet lights, such as those manufactured by Phantom Lighting, are designed to overcome reflected glare with proprietary shielding on the linear light strips themselves and with directional lighting control that aims the light back and away from the eyes of the viewer.

What types of bulbs can you install in kitchen cabinet lights?
Phantom strips can be fitted festoon lamps housing incandescent, xenon, or LED bulb. Xenon will render color at a level nearly equivalent to sunlight. As a low voltage, dimmable cabinet light fixture, it will bring out the subtlest red of granite and the multi-dimensional hues of marble, and until very recently was the most commonly used festoon in custom kitchen cabinet lighting. However, the new 2800K LED festoon lamps has just entered the market with a color rendering capability that is equivalent to xenon—at only a fraction of the cost.

What types of festoons are best for interior shelf lighting?
Incandescent festoons typically make for the best kitchen cabinet lighting installations. This is because they produce a very white light everything within the interior clearly visible. Unlike puck lights, they occupy no cubic space, leaving more room for storage and a more balanced presentation when the cabinet is opened in front of guests. It is also easier to clean the shelves periodically because Phantom low voltage in cabinet lighting require little external wiring and even allow for shelf removal without risk of shock or equipment damage.

Cabinet Lighting & Cabinet Lights

Cabinet lighting installations are prevalent in most upscale residential and commercial projects these days. These versatile linear cabinet strip lights are used for every conceivable accent lighting application imaginable including task lighting, shelf lighting, decorative display lighting and commercial jewelry display cabinet lighting. For over 25 years, homeowners, businesses, and art galleries have been using Phantom LED cabinet lighting to give their projects the extra brilliance it requires. Most lighting manufacturers give you the product, but not the high-level of service that comes with a top-notch illumination company.

Why settle for another manufacturer?
All Phantom cabinet lighting strips are custom manufactured to the exact dimensions of your cabinets, bookcases or antique furniture. Some cabinet lighting applications feature exclusive, patented low voltage lighting technology that conducts current like no other luxury lighting manufacturer in the world. Instead of using exposed wires to conduct electricity, our low voltage Phantom adjustable lighting strips employ exposed metal shelf standards or concealed buss bars to conduct power to small 2800K LED festoon bulbs that sit low to the surface of the lighting strip. This allows for easy movement of individual shelves without tools, specialists on call, or electrical shock hazard

LED Cabinet Lighting

What makes Phantom LED Cabinet Lights the best choice for illuminating custom cabinets in new homes?
Three features make linear LED cabinet lights the ideal choice for new home build outs and custom cabinet illumination. For one thing, they are almost completely heat less and can be left on for extended periods of time. Secondly, they require only 20% the amount of power needed by incandescent and halogen light sources. Third, led energy saving cabinet lights have the longest lamp life of any fixture of their kind on the market—approximately 50,000 hours. On the average, they can be expected to last up to 10 years, negating the annoyance and needless expense of ongoing replacements and unattractive dark spots in your kitchen.

LED cabinet lighting is also some of the safest illumination you can use in a custom home. These linear lighting strips feature a unique, patented adjustable shelf wiring method that uses brass shelf supports and buss bars instead of visible, external wires. This system delivers low-voltage current safely and allows the shelf to be adjusted without the risk of short circuit or shock.

Can LED cabinet lighting offer the same quality of luminance and color rendering as fluorescent, incandescent, or xenon bulbs?
Phantom has engineered a replacement LED festoon lamp that is light years ahead of earlier LED technology. Our patented festoon design uses three bubs in close proximity to one another to produce 45-50 lumens of light per lamp. This makes them equivalent in brightness to xenon lamps, with only a fraction of the power requirements. Phantom LED festoon light bulbs operate at 1.7 watts, whereas xenon lamps operate at 5 watts—a clear savings in power for the energy conscious custom home owner.

Additionally, Phantom LED cabinet lighting strips provide a full spectrum of color temperatures that range from the warm white of the 2800K festoon lamps and the slightly cooler 2950K led festoon light bulbs on upward and to the more a more bluish, daylight white at 6500K.

Can Phantom LED Cabinet Light Fixtures be used to retrofit existing kitchens and remodels?
Absolutely. We manufacture a total of six different linear strip models to provide lighting design companies and interior decorators the full gamut of choices when it comes to replacing outdated and worn-out equipment. Phantom Agents, located throughout North, Central, and South America, provide everything from product information and demonstration to customization and ordering services.

For custom homeowners looking to “go green”, or California residents facing legislation that requires replacement of all incandescent strip lights by 2010, Phantom LED cabinet lights offer yet another LED lighting advantage. Generally speaking, most LED lamps are DC-powered lamps. This presents a problem for some users when it comes time to replace an incandescent or Xenon strip powered by an AC circuit. The extra costs of AC to DC conversion equipment, plus additional labor fees, are a needless expense for the client and a nuisance for consultants to justify. Phantom led cabinet lighting strips; however, solve this problem with AC low voltage transformers that power the lamps along existing circuitry.

How aesthetic are the actual lighting fixtures themselves?
Custom home builders must always pay attention to aesthetics as much as function. Since design considerations are paramount to winning a contract, many builders have found that the AC Series (Adjustable Concealed) provides their proposal with both them a leading technical and decorative edge over the competition.

The AC series uses custom buss bars that conduct power to each adjustable shelf, resulting in complete concealment of the wiring. Contractors can custom order an AC linear cabinet lighting strip products with either solid metal trims for horizontal applications that require additional decorative highlighting, or with a variety of specialty trims for custom undercabinet lighting or applications above eye level.

These led cabinet lighting strips lights offer a low profile, near-invisible source of illumination that allows the new homeowner to see the light, but not the fixture.

How much lighting control does the homeowner have over these lights?
All Phantom Lighting fixtures of any kind are completely dimmable and come in many popular trim colors. Regardless of the specific LED cabinet lighting are further engineered for superior optics with advanced glare shielding that directs the light toward the intended subject and away from the viewer’s eyes.

With a generous 120-degree beam spread from each light emitting diode, the resulting illumination easily homogenizes or converges to achieve a continuous linear light source. Ultimately, therefore, wine cellar lighting strips with LED Lamps offer not only an equivalent luminosity to linear incandescent strips, but an infinitely superior distribution system that minimizes the fixture and emphasizes the light.

Phantom Lighting Trim Profiles

Phantom Lighting Custom Trim Profiles Provide Ultimate Glare Control From Any Viewing Angle.

What are your standard paint colors?
All Phantom Strip Lights come in eight standard paint finishes, and also come in solid brass, stainless steel, and copper. Fully ETL approved, Phantom puts everything on display in a whole new light.

Are your linear strip lights designed for cove lighting applications?
Yes, Phantom cove lighting fixtures represent what is most possibly the world's most "concealed" indirect lighting source. There are a number of reasons for this. CM linear strip lights are slimmer than standard linear cove lights and fluorescent fixtures. They are designed to hide their physical presence completely, even when placed along the most narrow interior soffits, valances, or custom coves in vaulted ceilings. This offers the eclectic architect considerably more freedom in design.

    Cabinet Lighting Fixtures

Phantom cabinet light fixtures feature a low voltage transformer that is smaller than industry standard size and much easier to conceal. This enables builders and contractors to install our cabinet light fixtures to be used inside cabinets of any size. Phantom cabinet light fixtures are available in vertical mount and horizontal mount designs to enable custom cabinet lighting in any environment. These lights are a preferred source of illumination in places where an evenly distributed, bright, and glare free light are an absolute necessity. Contractors find our display lighting fixtures ideal for such places as kitchens, bathrooms, storage cabinets in workstations, and special displays in certain retail and public showcasing environments.

Phantom linear cabinet light fixtures feature some very unique, proprietary, and patented technology. Our engineers have developed a wireless method of conductivity that eliminates the need for visible wiring and uses metal shelf standards to send current to the lamps. The linear strip light fixtures themselves are slim and low profile, and any number of festoon options are available. Each cabinet lighting fixture is custom made to the exact vertical or horizontal dimensions of the mounting surface, and dimmer controls on the concealed transformer allow the user to select any number of lighting levels and effects.

    Under Cabinet Lighting Fixtures
Phantom 12 volt under cabinet light fixtures are a favored source of under cabinet lighting for these reasons. Additionally, contractors often prefer Phantom linear strips fort their superior abilities at reducing reflective glare off of counter top surfaces. Puck lights mount in the center of the cabinet underbelly and tend to create white spots on the counter below. The larger fluorescent under cabinet light fixtures mount toward the back of the cabinet, creating the undesirable effect of throwing light straight into a person’s eyes. However, Phantom xenon linear lighting strips for under cabinet lighting mount just beneath the front of the cabinet and direct the light at an angle of incidence away from the viewer’s eyes, back toward the wall. This creates a smooth, even distribution of light that can be fine tuned even further with user friendly dimming controls on the unit. This is probably why we are now experiencing such an influx of orders from commercial contractors through our US and Canadian lighting sales agent network.

If cost is an issue, these linear strips can be made to pay for themselves over time. Any under the cabinet lighting fixture we manufacture can be ordered from our factory as a 12V linear strip and fitted with incandescent, xenon, or LED festoon lamps. This allows the contractor to match the countertop and surrounding kitchen decorations to the optimal light source and color rendering needed for best results. Combined with a 12V transformer fitted with a dimmer switch the homeowner can adjust at will, even the most sophisticated xenon lamps now save power at an extraordinary level. Businesses seeking LEED certification can also replace fluorescent pucks and strip lights with Phantom LED strip light fixtures. Unlike competing festoons, our patented lamping design generates 50 lumens per lumen on an LED strip light, making it nearly equivalent to xenon and far more of an energy saver at the end of the day.

    Cabinet Light Fixtures

As the sophistication of interior architecture increases, the functional and the decorative intent of lighting converge more and more. Because of this, linear lighting strips are becoming the preferred form of cabinet light fixtures. They are more concealable than puck lights, and they are capable of much better color rendering than fluorescent lights, linear cabinet light fixtures feature a diversity of festoon lamping options, optional low voltage transformer, and lighting controls that make them not only the most robust type of cabinet light fixtures, but also the most energy efficient cabinet light fixtures on the market.

Many lighting manufacturers like Phantom Lighting in Houston, TX have taken the time to study these trends in the lighting industry and see where future requirements for lighting design will emerge. What they have found in both homes and offices is an increasing movement toward custom cabinet building in homes and offices that requires much more than generic or retail grade cabinet lighting fixtures. Phantom, for example, has patented 5 specific model lines of linear custom cabinet light fixtures, each featuring its own proprietary, patented transformers and wireless conductivity systems that allow each lighting strip to be custom manufactured to the exact specifications and dimensions of a cabinet or under cabinet surface. These linear cabinet lights offer choices in both vertical and horizontal mounting, and they can be fitted with any number of festoon lamps and dimmers to achieve a full range of functional and accent lighting effects.

    Kitchen Cabinet Lighting
Today’s kitchen is no longer a place for cooking food. Even the average-size home features a kitchen that is larger and more comfortable than kitchens 30 or 40 years ago. Kitchen cabinets look much more ornate, and kitchen countertops—even white ones— are usually very decorative in appearance. Kitchen cabinet light fixtures should reinforce these aesthetics and simultaneously render colors with glare free, uniform light distribution in order to make the kitchen appear inviting and comfortable to guests.

Phantom linear cabinet light fixtures can be used for either in cabinet or under cabinet kitchen lighting. A wide range of finishes makes it possible to match them to virtually any color scheme in even the largest kitchens found in custom homes. Their low profile design makes them virtually invisible at this point, and the unique angle of incidence in which Phantom under cabinet light fixtures illuminate countertops minimizes glare and eliminates the white spots commonly created by pucks and bulky fluorescent under cabinet lights.

Dimmers on transformers allow home owners to adjust light output to any level desired, so parties, daily meal preparation, and late night low level lighting can all be done with the same cabinet light fixtures. United States Phantom lighting agents and sales representatives will help you select from incandescent, xenon, and LED lamping options most appropriate to the color of your decorative scheme and the color and material workmanship of your countertop.

    Low Voltage In-Cabinet Light Fixtures
Any kitchen cabinet lighting fixture can be ordered from our factory as a low voltage unit optimized for power conservation. This allows the homeowner to leave the lights on continuously with minimal electric power use and minimal heat. Normally people simply dim these under cabinet lights to a low, ambient level when they turn in for bed. If any needs to visit the refrigerator during the wee hours of the morning, there is sufficient light to see by, but the lighting levels are dim enough not to hurt the eyes. Also, anyone hosting guests should leave kitchen cabinet light fixtures and bathroom light fixtures turned on for safety reasons. Low voltage cabinet lighting may be the best route to go if you plan on having a lot of company during summer and during Christmas.

    Cabinet Lights

Cabinet lights are found in a variety of residential and commercial environments, and they are used for both decorative and functional lighting purposes. Cabinet lighting installations in kitchens is intended to eliminate pockets of shadow both within cabinets and underneath cabinets. Cabinet lights also play an important role in decorating and illuminating guest baths in custom homes. Work areas in the home and in the office also need under cabinet lighting and in cabinet lighting to alleviate strain on the eyes and to maintain a positive, upbeat momentum in process flow. Finally, any type of special display in a residence, business, or retail environment often benefits from custom cabinet lighting that functions to place the subject in its own unique light that differentiates it from its surroundings.

In most settings, the most effective source for cabinet lighting comes in the form of low profile linear strips. These strips offer several advantages over more generic under cabinet fluorescent lights and puck lights. They are smaller, and therefore less visible. They typically render color at a superior level, and they are adjustable because, unlike fluorescent, they can be dimmed to any desired level. Phantom Lighting manufactures six lines of linear strips that feature some very proprietary and unique transformer, power distribution, and lamping designs. Five of these lighting strips can be used for cabinet lighting or under cabinet lighting fixtures.

Whether you have cabinets with glass or wooden shelves, these linear strip lights can be adjusted for an ideal fit. The vertical mount (VM) series, for example, is field notched to clear your shelves, and the lamps are spaced in conjunction with your cabinet structure. These strip devices provide even illumination to surrounding objects, bringing out color and intricate details, which may be hidden otherwise.

This display cabinet lighting can provide an important component in any cabinet that features custom shelving, and that is used to showcase rare collectibles or special edition hardcover books. Other types of cabinet lights from this unique lighting manufacturer include the adjustable concealed (AC) series, adjustable exposed (AE), horizontal mount (HM), and the task light (TL) series. Phantom also offers the cove mount (CM) design for cove settings.

One of the most unique features of Phantom’s cabinet lights is the way they are designed. Using existing metal shelf standards to conduct an electrical current, a clandestine low voltage transformer allows energy to flow through the shelf standards and mounting clips. When the shelf is in position, the entire circuit is completed. This specialized design gives the user the versatility of not having to use tools to remove or relocate shelves. This adjustable shelf concept is unique to Phantom Lighting, and it provides the user with the advantage of a cabinet light that uses no exposed wiring.

Phantom curio cabinet lights can be fitted with any number of lamping options. For warm color rendering, incandescent bulbs can be inexpensively fitted to your strip lights. A more refined light can be produced by xenon lamps that can be used to illuminate the most exquisite and rare of collectibles. Phantom LED festoon light bulbs produce very little forward throw heat and have a lamp life of 50,000 hours. They are a perfect choice for illuminating items which may be sensitive to infrared or ultra-violet heat. Special glare shields on the strips prevent the bulbs from being seen, even from irregular angles, and all Phantom cabinet lights are low voltage and completely dimmable for ultimate user friendly lighting control.

Phantom Lighting fixtures are easy to install as well. All you have to do is select the right trim and obtain the proper measurements, and Phantom will take care of the rest. Simply contact a united states sales representative today and provide him or her with the dimensions of your cabinet, and the factory will custom build your cabinet lights according to those exact, specific measurements.

With Phantom Lights, expect nothing but the finest illumination for your home, office, or store. Phantom’s unique strip lights make illumination simple and quite fun. So let step into the spotlight with the revolutionary designs offered to you by Phantom Lighting.

12 Volt LED Home Lighting Products

Homeowners can create whole new atmospheres of mystery and ambience with 12V LED home lighting. LED home lighting products provide under cabinet lighting, picture lighting, display lighting, and many other practical benefits. Strip lighting solutions from Phantom Lighting cover the full lighting spectrum, making 12V LED home lighting the only necessary illumination to accommodate free standing furniture, cove, bookshelf, and picture lighting within the home. Low voltage 12V LED home lighting offers a safe and long-lasting alternative to all other forms of technology.

12V LED home lighting is rapidly becoming the very future of lighting itself. Filament based lighting converts 90% of all electricity into raw heat. Not only does this cause the bulb to eventually burn out, but it also heats the room and subsequently increases energy costs on cooling. LED technology replaces this gas and filament with superior technology with more cost effective results. LED’s utilize semiconductor technology to radiate light without heat and only require 12V to operate. As such, they last much longer than halogen and fluorescent bulbs, and they do not heat the room or increase the power bill if used too often. 12V LED home lighting system provides protection against short-circuiting via remote fused 12VAC transformers. Easy and quick to install, LED strip lights illuminate built-in bookcases and freestanding furniture without unsafe and damaging heat.

Phantom 12V LED lighting strips allow for an even distribution of light from an unobtrusive lighting source that adapts itself readily to built-in bookcases and freestanding furniture. The variable LED spacing insures even saturated light output and options for 120-degree or 60-degree optic angles depending on situational lighting requirements and desired aesthetic outcome.

12V LED home lighting proves ideal for kitchen lighting and task lighting. We custom cut each strip lighting fixture to match the dimensions of cabinets and desks. With a CM, AC, or AE series festoon light, 12V LED home lighting can illuminate every corner within a cabinet, making it easier to find spices, cans, foods, and small appliances quickly and easily. Our patented fixed surface wiring keeps the fixture itself invisible and maximizes the aesthetic of the lighting experience. Task lighting for desks and other home work areas also delivers a comfortable amount of light that prevents eyestrain, as Phantom LED 12V lighting strips output five times the amount of standard festoon lighting products. They are also fully dimmable and do not require the complex special components necessary to operate DC counterparts.

12V LED home lighting offers so many obvious benefits that one can readily see how this technology will soon replace gas and filament light sources. With long bulb life, low energy input, and low-heat output, LED lights can deliver everything previous technologies offered without wasting money or producing environmentally damaging side effects. Call one of our lighting agents or lighting representatives now to get a head start on the future of all lighting.

Low voltage lighting transformers designed to operate Phantom light strips.

Selecting the right size a low voltage transformer for a low voltage lighting system can be a mystery for some electricians and homeowners.

Just because you are installing a
low voltage lighting system, it doesn't mean you can use low voltage wire! In fact, low voltage current operates at higher amperage levels than standard 120 volt lighting systems. The current is 10 times greater for a 12 volt system than for a 120 volt system with the same wattage. Consequently, you must use larger wire for 12 and 24 volt systems to minimize voltage drop and handle the increased amperage loads.

    All
Phantom Lighting System power transformers come equipped with secondary circuit breakers or fuse protection which is sized to the capacity of the transformer. This is done as a safety precaution to prevent overload or short circuits from melting the wires or damaging the transformer.

    To determine
Phantom transformers and wire requirements, calculate the total watts per foot divided by the secondary voltage (12 or 24) to obtain the amperage. (watts / voltage = amperage). The following details Phantom transformer part numbers, maximum wattages, and number of secondary fuses per transformer:

    12 Volt Phantom Transformers:
    MT102 - 100 watt transformer - (1) 10 amp fuse
    MT152 - 150 watt transformer - (1) 15 amp fuse
    MT252 - 250 watt transformer - (1) 25 amp fuse
    MT502 - 500 watt transformer - (2) 25 amp fuses
    MT752 - 750 watt transformer - (3) 25 amp fuses
    MT1002 - 1000 watt transformer - (4) 25 amp fuse

    24 Volt Phantom Transformers:
    MT104 - 100 watt transformer - (1) 5 amp fuse
    MT154 - 150 watt transformer - (1) 7 amp fuse
    MT254 - 250 watt transformer - (1) 10 amp fuse
    MT504 - 500 watt transformer - (1) 25 amp fuse
    MT754 - 750 watt transformer - (2) 15 amp fuses
    MT1004 - 1000 watt transformer - (2) 25 amp fuses

    Wire Capacities Stranded Wire:
    16 guage - 10 amps
    14 guage - 15 amps
    12 guage - 20 amps
    10 guage - 30 amps
    08 gauge - 40 amps

    The
experts at Phantom Lighting are more than happy to assist with your low voltage lighting design or load calculations. Wiring and power distribution is the most important component of any low voltage lighting project. Low voltage lighting strips use festoon lamps for lighting fine art objects.

Festoon lamps are the primary lamp that is used in Phantom Strip Lights for custom shelf lighting and cabinet lighting applications.

The low profile design of the festoon lamp provides a perfect lamp choice for lighting designers, contractors or home owners in a linear strip lighting system. Festoon lamps come in both incandescent and xenon models. Xenon festoon lamps have a much longer lamp life than their incandescent counterparts going up to 10,000 hours. Used in combination with a dimmer control, Phantom strip lights, with festoon lamps, can provide and a beautiful source of display illumination.

Phantom lighting is currently in design and development of a revolutionary LED festoon lighting that will outperform previous models using LED festoon lamps. The problem with earlier LED lamps has been color and distribution. Those problems will soon be a thing of the past.

Phantom low voltage festoon strip lighting is available in several trim shapes and specific wiring methods to meet your design objectives:

    Adjustable Lighting Strips
    Cove Lighting Strips
    Undercabinet Lighting Strips
    Fixed Lighting Strips

Lighting using low voltage fixtures for display and shelving is effective way to show of art collections.

We recently purchased an antique corner cabinet similar to the one you have in your gallery section. The antique cabinet has two glass front doors and solid wood sides. The shelves are fixed and the back is covered in a dark fabric. Is it possible to illuminate the cabinet with strip lighting and not destroy the integrity of the cabinet?

Phantom strip lighting fixtures are custom made to fit just about any cabinet, bookshelf or indirect cove. Whether you are mounting Phantom strip lights horizontal or vertically, the custom trims can be fabricated to perfectly fit. The low profile metal trims completely hide the light even from the most severe angles because each trim has a glare shield to hide the source. A small low voltage transformer is also required to power the lights and can be hidden either above the cabinet or below the cabinet.

Shelves that are fixed and under 30" wide, typically would be done with vertical strip lighting. That is so the fixture can be hidden from normal view and the wires can be concealed as well. Anything over 30" wide requires a special center strip light to prevent a dark center.

Feel free to contact us toll free at 800-863-1184, visit our mobile website, lighting blog or online lighting showroom to discover which Phantom Lighting products and models will best adapt to your particular lighting needs. Together, the professionals at Phantom Lighting will ensure that your next project is an astounding success!

Home office display takes on sophisticated look with Phantom low voltage shelf lighting.

We are delighted when our satisfied customers send us pictures of our PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTING in action. These beautiful before and after pictures were taken by our GEORGIA AGENT who assisted his client with the installation in a home office. The HM SERIES STRIP LIGHTS were used on each of the shelves as well as the radius top. The strip lighting was field notched so that it could be installed to follow the contour of the cabinet.

All Phantom display lights are custom designed to fit your cabinets perfectly. It does not matter, if you have adjustable shelves or fixed shelves in your cabinet. The type of material used to design the shelf will not make a difference either. Wood or glass shelves do not effect how the illumination is distributed.

For more information, visit our website at www.phantomlighting.com, visit one of our LIGHTING AGENTS or call us toll free at 800-863-1184 for a free color brochure. Lighting antique cabinets is just one of the many uses for Phantom Lighting.

I recently acquired a large antique corner cabinet for my home that desperately needs some kind of internal lighting. I have placed the cabinet in a dark wood room which gets very little natural lighting. My home is fairly traditional so, I do not have overhead lighting to wash the cabinet like they did at the antique store. Can you help me?

PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS, particularly the VM Series strip lights are perfect for illuminating antique corner cabinets or any kind of furniture for that matter. The corner cabinet on the left shows our VERTICAL MOUNT STRIP LIGHTS hidden inside the cabinet on both sides as well as a horizontal strip on top to provide an indirect light source. The low voltage transformer was hidden in the base cabinet along with the dimmer control.

This antique corner cabinet pictured above has fixed shelves with scroll fronts. We custom fabricated eight small vertical Phantom light trims to fit between the shelves and connected them together with small wire jumpers to create a continuous light source. All Phantom light trims have a glare shield which prohibits you from seeing the light source from any viewing angle. The internal strip lighting in this corner cabinet is striking at first glance.

Phantom light strips are the Cadillac of low voltage festoon strip lighting. Other manufacturers of linear lighting products, such as rope light, fail to hide the light source. Other strip lighting products would require more intrusive wiring methods which would devalue the cabinet. PHANTOM LIGHTING is all about hiding the source and seeing the light. It's Simple. It's Easy! It's Effective!

For more information on PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS for display lighting or the PHANTOM CONTOUR PROJECTOR for art lighting visit one of our knowledgeable LIGHTING AGENTS for a color brochure. Or you can contact customer service at 800-863-1184 for technical information or specifications.

We are more than happy to help you design and supply a custom cabinet lighting system for your antique cabinet.

Why is Phantom low voltage display lighting so popular with interior designers?

The main reason Phantom display lighting is so popular with design professionals is really quite simple. It works!

Phantom Lighting has been manufacturing custom cabinet lighting fixtures for over 20 years. Our patented ADJUSTABLE SHELF LIGHTING FIXTURE for bookcases, display cabinets and shelf systems are miniature, low profile and very effective. Imagine seeing each shelf in your library individually illuminated and being able to move each shelf anytime you want without having to disconnect any wires. That's right, no wires. It's that simple. Phantom Lighting is all about hiding the source and seeing the results.

The concept of adjustable Phantom Lighting is to eliminate exposed wiring by using existing metal shelf standards or buss bars to conduct a safe low voltage current. A remote transformer transmits energy through the shelf standards, buss bars and mounting clips. A lighting fixture, fitted with festoon lamps, lead wires and a conducting plate, is affixed to each shelf. Once the shelf is in position, the circuit is complete and the lamps energized. The results are dramatic!

In addition to our custom adjustable wiring methods, we have many other techniques and custom light trims for LED strip lighting. Over the years we have illuminated everything from antique furniture to custom cove lighting applications. Every Phantom fixture is hand crafted in our facility to your exact specifications to insure a perfect fit every time. Phantom lighting is truly a flexible and unique lighting fixture for display lighting and accent lighting.

How do I calculate amperage, wattage and correct wire sizes for Phantom low voltage lighting strips?

I am trying to calculate loads and select a transformer for a cove lighting job using your strip lights. I want to be sure that I am using the right size wire and fuses. Can you give me some pointers on what to do?

If you are not an electrician calculating wire size, amperage and fusing can be quite confusing. Let's take a look at calculating wire size first. All PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS are fabricated with 16 gauge wire and have a maximum feed through capacity of 13.33 amps in a free air environment. In other words, it is not in a conduit with other wires that can entrap heat and affect the ampacity of the wire.

What amperage a wire can handle is decided by the wire size. Here are some examples:
    • 16 gauge wire is rated for up to 10 amps
    • 14 gauge wire is rated for up to 15 amps
    • 12 gauge wire is rated for up to 20 amps
    • 10 gauge wire is rated for up to 30 amps
    • 8 gauge wire is rated for up to 40 amps

Amperage is calculated by dividing the wattage by the voltage. So if you have 300 watts operating at 24 volts that equals 12.50 amps. So, for every 300 watts of lights you should install a home run wire from the low voltage festoon lighting strips back to the transformer.

Another wiring method would be to combine two 300 watt loads using a 10 gauge wire back to the transformer. The maximum size fuse on any PHANTOM TRANSFORMER is 25 amps. You might have several of these 25 amps circuit breakers depending on the size of the transformer. Refer to our transformer information page for more specific information and suggested wiring layouts.

To play it safe, ask the professionals at Phantom Lighting System to help design, specify and engineer your project. We are here to help and want your project to be safe and successful. It is always best when installing our lighting system to consult with a qualified electrician or handy man. Phantom lighting strips are the best way to illuminate a bookcases, breakfronts, cabinets and antique furniture.

I am interested in lighting an antique cabinet. However, I do not want to see the lights or modify my cabinet to fit the lights. Can the lights be mounted vertically without damage to the cabinet?

PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS can most certainly be installed in a vertical mounting position without having to modify the cabinet.

We have a special vertical trim that has a custom glare shield designed for just this type of application. The glare shield blocks your view of the light bulbs from angles up to 90 degrees. That means even from the most severe angles, you will not see the lamp but, enjoy the objects that are being illuminated.

The VM Series or Vertical Mount Series is a custom built low voltage lighting fixture that can be installed in cabinets with fixed or adjustable shelves. Whether you have wood shelves or glass shelves, the lights can be fabricated for a perfect fit. The metal trim can be field notched to clear the shelves and the lamps can be custom spaced for uniformity and even illumination. Small low voltage transformers power the lights and can be hidden either above or below the cabinet and used in combination with a dimmer control, the lighting is magical.

    VM SERIES FEATURES
    • Solid metal trim with glare shield specifically designed for vertical applications
      • Designed for fixed wiring applications such as free standing furniture and antiques
      • Perfect for retrofit or remodel applications
      • Maximum shielding from extreme side view angles
      • Multiple trim shapes available to seamlessly direct the light for custom applications
      • ETL Approved

Phantom lighting is all about hiding the light source and installation techniques vary by wiring methods. Rather than take a stock fixture and modify it to fit your cabinet, we manufacture a custom fixture that is made especially for your job. So if you want to illuminate a cabinet, breakfront, armories or adjustable shelves, Phantom Lighting is right for you!
