Cabinet Lighting Remodeling Ideas

Do I have to buy new cabinet lighting when I remodel my house?
You don’t when you work with Phantom Lighting. If you already have linear cabinet lights in your kitchen, over-the-counter areas, bathroom cabinets, and decorative displays, forget about having to spend money on all new equipment.

With Phantom’s latest generation of LED festoon lamps, you can simply purchase new LED festoon lamps and retrofit them to your existing cabinet lighting fixtures. You will start saving money immediately on two levels.

The first savings will be seen in reduced electrical cost to operate this new generation of lamps. You see, each lamp needs only 0.6 watts of power to produce a level of brightness equivalent to that of a xenon or incandescent decorative lamp.

The second savings you will see is a reduced cooling cost. One watt of power equals 1 BTU of heat, so you are already paying more than you think on any festoon-based cabinet lighting system that operates at 1 watt per lamp or higher.

These new LED lamps that we have developed produce virtually no heat, so no matter how long you operate them, they will not overheat their immediate environment, nor will they overheat the room. This will lower your air conditioning costs noticeably, if not significantly.

Where can I go and buy these new cabinet lighting bulbs?
Call our office toll free at 800-863-1133 or request a quote or contact a local lighting distributor.

My remodeling contractor has already offered replacement bulbs at a discount. What should I do?
Have a conversation with us first to obtain all the necessary technical data on our new product. Show this to you builder. The same thing goes with your interior decorator if you are working with a specialist in design. Present this information (all of which you can download or bookmark on our website) to your contractor and politely insist that they install the festoon retrofits of your choosing.

If your contractor wants to bill the retrofit under his or her invoice, reassure him or her we will sell direct to them and allow them to bundle our product under our invoice. As a cabinet lighting manufacturer, our sales are geared toward both the contractor and the homeowner based upon project, need, or demand.

What decorative advantages do your cabinet lighting festoons offer that no other kinds do?
The lumens output of these lamps is superb. Previous generations of LED were challenged in their ability to produce a light that was bright enough to compete with fluorescent, incandescent, and xenon equivalents.

We solved this problem by building a single lamp that contains 6 diodes per lamp housing. The combined light output easily equals that of any source you may currently be using under your cabinets or inside your collectibles display.

The color temperatures of these lamps are equally superb, ranging from the cool 5,000K to the warm 2,700K which for all intents and purposes is identical to xenon quality.

Phantom LED Festoon Lamps

When LED energy saving festoon lamps were invented just a few years ago, they changed decorative lighting forever. Up until this time, it was always something of an expensive chore to light ceiling, cabinets, bookshelves, and special displays with incandescent and xenon lamps. Any attempt to use cheaper lights like fluorescents in cove lighting yielded bright light but very little decorative ambience. It was always this tradeoff between quality and power savings.

Before LED festoon lamps, there was also another problem with heat. Incandescents produce a light that is very similar to that of the sun. They can also get very hot. The issue here is not so much one of fire hazard but rather overheating a room in general. The AC is going to kick in when the thermostat rises, and the cost of cooling the room down is going to compound on top of the cost it.

Linear lighting with 5-7 watt festoon lamps will overheat a room quickly. Just one watt of power emits 1 BTU in heat. Multiply that by 5 watts per lamp, and you can see how hot your room gets, and how much extra you have to pay to cool it down.

This all changed when LED festoons came on the scene. They made decorative lighting affordable. LEDs typically use 60% less electricity as incandescent lamps. However, heat was still an issue in spite of the power savings. While LED light bulbs did not produce heat, the printed circuit boards that power them do —even those with lamps of less than 5 watts of power.

However, things have changed again thanks to Phantom Lighting’s LED replacement festoon lamps. Each of these new lamps requires only .6 watt of power. This results in negligible heat output, which in turn offsets the cost of cooling a room. The savings curve is even greater, and the quality of the lighting is greater as well.

The new 6-emitter led lamp design emits plenty of light in a 120 degree pattern of distribution and a better blend of color temperature. Our lamps also emit 5 times the amount light as competing models. Phantom LEDs, you can have the same lumens output as incandescent and xenon without the additional costs.

Phantom LED cove lights are available in superb color temperatures of 3500K, cool white 5000K, and 2700K. They operate at a CRI of 80 and also have a 50,000 hour average lamp life. They can be retrofitted to linear strip lights made by almost any lighting manufacturer, and they can work on either 12V or 24V magnetic lighting transformers without any need to rewire your fixtures. This means you do not have to buy new strip lighting fixtures. You only need remove your original festoons and replace them with Phantom LED lamps to make the switch.

Phantom lights are ideal for under cabinet lighting, display cabinet lighting, and custom furniture lighting. They have also proven valuable in nautical lighting, aviation lighting, and under the adjustable shelf lighting applications.

LED Festoon Strip Lighting

Led light bulbs will one day become the dominant source of lighting on the planet—if not the exclusive source. They solve a multitude of economic and environmental problems that have plagued and continue to plague users of other types of lamps. The reason for this lies in the manner in which a led bulb generates light. Unlike incandescents and fluorescent bulbs, a led light does not utilize a filament or any type of luminary gas. Instead, led lighting bulb technology is based on something completely different—a semi conductive component known as a “diode.” By passing a low voltage current through a diode, one can agitate electrons within its composite substances, causing light to radiate into the surroundings. This light is cool burning and will not cause heat pollution in work and living areas. Because these LED light bulbs do not rely on inert gases of any kind, they pose no threat to the environment, and the substances of which they are composed are virtually unbreakable compared to standard lamps.

Festoon lamps are available in 3 watt, 5 watt, and 10 watt, in both 12VAC and 24VAC. Xenon lamps (2,800K) typically produce a whiter light and are used for display lighting. The light from an incandescent lamp (2,450K) is warmer in color, and more conducive to residential applications. The average life for a incandescent lamp is 7,500 hours and 20,000 hours for xenon low voltage lamps.

There are many advantages to LED lighting. LED festoon lamps are available in a 0.6 watt, 12VAC and 24VAC models in several popular color temperatures such as 2,700K, 3,500K, and 5,000K. LED festoon lamps produce very little forward throw heat, no UV rays and have an average lamp life of 50,000 hours.

LED 2,700K festoon lamps are perfect for retrofit applications or new projects that require a bright, efficient light source in hard to reach areas. Commercial applications such as LED cove lighting in hotels, casinos, theaters, and large residential cove lighting projects are all candidates for Phantom LED festoon light bulbs. Why replace your linear strip lights when you can simply install new energy efficient LED festoon lamps?

Our new 2,700K Phantom LED festoon lamp is a favorite of interior designers, architects, maintenance departments and electrical engineers because it produces a beautiful warm colored light that works well in indirect LED cove lights, display cabinets, task lights and many other commercial and residential applications.

Contact Phantom Lighting now toll-Free at 1-800-863-1184. Speak to a US lighting sales representative today about specific strip lighting series and the many aesthetic and practical benefits that led light bulbs add to display and showcase lighting on all levels of function and form.

Lighting Cabinets & Bookshelf Lights

Why Cabinet Lighting is Necessary?
Cabinet lighting, by definition, is the illumination of the interior of a cabinet. By implication as well, it also refers to the illumination of the contents of such a display.

Such a display can exist for purely ornamental purposes. We often see fine antiques and curios showcased in antique reproductions and tall cabinets with non-mirrored back planes. Other displays may serve a more functional purpose, as we see in residential kitchen cabinets that are built with windows that allow you to see view the fine cookware and dinnerware stored within.

Regardless of the intent of the display, however, custom cabinet lighting solutions are needed regardless. Even the brightest of room lights are insufficient when it comes to lighting a closed interior space that is often covered by a glass plane in the front. Add to this the presence of vertical styles and shelves, and you can see very quickly how any attempt to light contents with an external light source would result in much of their surface area being obscured by shadows.

Such shadows are even more pronounced and magnified if housed behind closing doors. Glass windows will still dim the light to some degree, and the wooden frame of the door itself creates a criss-cross of obstructions to light.

It is clearly evident then that display cabinet lighting is an absolute must if you are going to create any type of showcase or display that offers clear visibility to the observer and contributes aesthetic value to the room.

Most designers agree that the best source of display lighting can be found the form of linear strip lights that mount on the interior surfaces of shelves and door frames. Phantom low voltage cabinet strip lights are the best of their kind for this type of application because they are custom-built to the exact dimensions of the surfaces on which they mount and offer a multiplicity of lamping options that are fully dimmable and super energy efficient.

Installing LED Display Cabinet Lights

If you are building cabinets with adjustable shelves Phantom Lighting offers you the option of building custom cabinet lights right into the shelving at the time of construction. These in cabinet lights are low-voltage units designed for maximum light output and minimal power consumption. With color temperatures ranging from 5000K-2800K, they are guaranteed to accentuate your product’s aesthetic appeal and directly increase its market value.

With the energy efficiency generated by Phantom LED cabinet lights, you can offer to reduce your clients’ decorative lighting costs by as much as 60%. When you combine LED lighting advantages with superb carpentry and high-end lighting, you add return on investment value to product quality and increase the selling power of your bid with some of the most ingenious technology ever introduced to the world of cabinet lighting.

In spite of its highly flexible nature and diverse range of application, Phantom technology consists of some amazingly simple components. These are the cabinet lights themselves, a CDA kit for each linear strip, a pair of buss bars, and a small, low-voltage magnetic lighting transformer that is easy to conceal.

The CDA kit replaces the standard right-angle pins with a pair of highly conductive brass shelf supports and corresponding brass contact pads. The buss bars are vertical metal strips that are mounted flush with the exterior walls of the cabinet. When a cabinet maker contacts our factory and places a purchase order, both the buss bars and the cabinet lights themselves are custom built to match the dimensions of the structure’s interior.

Each cabinet requires only one pair of buss bars, and each linear strip light requires only one corresponding CDA kit. These components, along with a small, low-voltage transformer that is easy to conceal, are all that is necessary to create a completely hidden, wireless light source that will illuminate everything from rare books and antique china to sentimental curios and fine bottles of wine.

Installing your book lighting display is a simple process that takes only a few hours to complete. Begin by routing out a 1/4” x 5/8” channel on each exterior wall of the cabinet. Route this channel directly at the point where you intend to mount the metal shelf brackets and install the buss bars. Once the cabinet is assembled and painted use the brass screws in the CDA mounting kit to affix the shelf brackets by screwing directly through the cabinet wall to the buss bars.

Once the shelf brackets are in place, attach the brass contact pads in your CDA kit to the ends of each shelf. Install the cabinet lighting fixtures behind the front reveal of every shelf, and then connect them to the contact pads with the small wires that come with the CDA kit. (You do not need an electrician to do this). Now, when the shelf is placed on the bracket, the power will flow from the buss bars through the mounting bracket, then complete circuit through the contact pads connected to the lighting strips.

Kitchen Cabinet Lighting

http://www.phantomlighting.com/cabinet-lighting-systems.htmHow decorative do kitchen cabinet lights need to be?
Kitchens today are much more than food storage and preparation areas. They are now central gathering places for home entertainment events and are much larger than ever before. Kitchen cabinet lighting has had to evolve over the years to meet and increasing demand for more than base-level requirements to produce optimal visibility and comfort. Custom cabinet lighting must address certain aesthetic concerns as well such as lighting color and brightness, color rendering of illuminated surface and interior design, and glare free light that will not hurt the eyes of homeowners and guests.

Do you recommend puck lights and fluorescent under cabinet lights?
In some situations they are still useful, but their dominance in kitchen cabinet lighting is beginning to significantly wane. Custom home owners are replacing generic countertop materials with ornate granite and marble—two surfaces that are highly reflective. Although most fluorescent undercabinet lights are housed in frosted fixtures that minimize glare, they lack the color rendering capabilities necessary to do justice to an ornate countertop. Puck lights are too intense for most kitchens and throw a great deal of reflected light outward in all directions.

12 volt undercabinet lights, such as those manufactured by Phantom Lighting, are designed to overcome reflected glare with proprietary shielding on the linear light strips themselves and with directional lighting control that aims the light back and away from the eyes of the viewer.

What types of bulbs can you install in kitchen cabinet lights?
Phantom strips can be fitted festoon lamps housing incandescent, xenon, or LED bulb. Xenon will render color at a level nearly equivalent to sunlight. As a low voltage, dimmable cabinet light fixture, it will bring out the subtlest red of granite and the multi-dimensional hues of marble, and until very recently was the most commonly used festoon in custom kitchen cabinet lighting. However, the new 2800K LED festoon lamps has just entered the market with a color rendering capability that is equivalent to xenon—at only a fraction of the cost.

What types of festoons are best for interior shelf lighting?
Incandescent festoons typically make for the best kitchen cabinet lighting installations. This is because they produce a very white light everything within the interior clearly visible. Unlike puck lights, they occupy no cubic space, leaving more room for storage and a more balanced presentation when the cabinet is opened in front of guests. It is also easier to clean the shelves periodically because Phantom low voltage in cabinet lighting require little external wiring and even allow for shelf removal without risk of shock or equipment damage.

Cabinet Lighting Systems

Low voltage festoon cabinet lighting systems are made for a variety of decorative furnishings and custom cabinets using Phantom’s proprietary linear lighting strips. Everything from displays, book shelves, break fronts, antique cases, armoires, and custom kitchen cabinets can be lit with these systems. The low profile design of a Phantom cabinet lighting strip allows it to hide along the interior of any vertical or horizontal surface. Our patented shelf support and buss bar technology replaces visible wires, making it possible to completely conceal the accent strip lights in most instances. It also allows the shelves to be moved without risk of shock or short circuit. This is important when it comes time to decorate or clean shelving surfaces.

Phantom cabinet lights are the only systems that can be literally customized to the pieces they illuminate with minimum cutting or drilling and maximum lighting control. Linear light strips can be fitted with any number of LED, xenon, and incandescent festoon lamping options to create the color temperature most appropriate to the quality and texture of the furnishing itself and any contents on display within its interior.

Display Cabinet Lighting Systems
Phantom xenon lighting strips can be installed in a wide variety of unique positions to create concealed cabinet lighting systems in display cases, armoires, breakfronts, corner cabinets, and free standing book cases. Because every linear lighting strip is custom cut to the dimensions of an interior horizontal or vertical cabinet surface, it is possible for interior decorators to completely conceal our cabinet lighting systems in most antique and reproduction display cases. For breakfronts and display cases that measure 30” or more in height, vertical strip lights can be installed on the interior surface of the vertical styles. In display cases with more horizontal space than vertical space, professionals can install horizontal strip lights along the interior header. Units with shelves can be lit with wireless cabinet lighting systems installed on the top bottom portion of each shelf. The light shines down onto the shelf below, illuminating both the space between the shelves and the contents of the shelves with a gentle, ambient glow.

However, not every cabinet was made with a lighting system in mind. Many antiques were designed to be enjoyed in the daylight only without any thought given interior illumination at night. We see a lot of this with older breakfronts and antique china cabinets that do not have headers or vertical styles on which to mount our cabinet lights. To work around this challenge, we custom build the display cabinet lights to fit the vertical interior surface of the cabinet door. Even though a visitor will see the fixtures if he or she opens the glass doors, the compact, wireless design of our linear strips and are aesthetically superior festoon lamping configuration make for a presentable look even if the strip lights are momentarily exposed.

Kitchen Cabinet Lighting Systems
Phantom builds both xenon under cabinet lighting and incabinet lighting systems for modern kitchens whose function and aesthetic rely heavily on custom cabinetry. Almost every cabinet will be unique to its own respective kitchen, which is why it is so important to use a cabinet lighting system that is custom manufactured to the precise dimensions of the cabinet under surface or interior. With Phantom in cabinet and undercabinet lighting systems, homeowners experience a number of benefits unavailable from incandescent and fluorescent strip lighting.

For one thing, Phantom strips are made with special glare shields and optics that causes the light to shine from the front of the cabinet and down toward the back. Most linear lights shine from the back to the front, causing light to reflect upward from counter tops and appliances and into a person’s eyes. Guests seated at nearby tables may also be blinded by these fluorescent undercabinet fixtures or incandescent cabinet lights because their line of site lies beneath the underside of the cabinet and directly in the pathway of the light.

Simply by replacing traditional custom cabinet lights and reversing the lighting angle of incidence, our cabinet lighting systems transform glare into reflected ambiance, which can contribute to either a warm aesthetic under the cabinet glow or a gentle warm ambiance within the cabinet’s interior.

LED Cabinet Lighting

What makes Phantom LED Cabinet Lights the best choice for illuminating custom cabinets in new homes?
Three features make linear LED cabinet lights the ideal choice for new home build outs and custom cabinet illumination. For one thing, they are almost completely heat less and can be left on for extended periods of time. Secondly, they require only 20% the amount of power needed by incandescent and halogen light sources. Third, led energy saving cabinet lights have the longest lamp life of any fixture of their kind on the market—approximately 50,000 hours. On the average, they can be expected to last up to 10 years, negating the annoyance and needless expense of ongoing replacements and unattractive dark spots in your kitchen.

LED cabinet lighting is also some of the safest illumination you can use in a custom home. These linear lighting strips feature a unique, patented adjustable shelf wiring method that uses brass shelf supports and buss bars instead of visible, external wires. This system delivers low-voltage current safely and allows the shelf to be adjusted without the risk of short circuit or shock.

Can LED cabinet lighting offer the same quality of luminance and color rendering as fluorescent, incandescent, or xenon bulbs?
Phantom has engineered a replacement LED festoon lamp that is light years ahead of earlier LED technology. Our patented festoon design uses three bubs in close proximity to one another to produce 45-50 lumens of light per lamp. This makes them equivalent in brightness to xenon lamps, with only a fraction of the power requirements. Phantom LED festoon light bulbs operate at 1.7 watts, whereas xenon lamps operate at 5 watts—a clear savings in power for the energy conscious custom home owner.

Additionally, Phantom LED cabinet lighting strips provide a full spectrum of color temperatures that range from the warm white of the 2800K festoon lamps and the slightly cooler 2950K led festoon light bulbs on upward and to the more a more bluish, daylight white at 6500K.

Can Phantom LED Cabinet Light Fixtures be used to retrofit existing kitchens and remodels?
Absolutely. We manufacture a total of six different linear strip models to provide lighting design companies and interior decorators the full gamut of choices when it comes to replacing outdated and worn-out equipment. Phantom Agents, located throughout North, Central, and South America, provide everything from product information and demonstration to customization and ordering services.

For custom homeowners looking to “go green”, or California residents facing legislation that requires replacement of all incandescent strip lights by 2010, Phantom LED cabinet lights offer yet another LED lighting advantage. Generally speaking, most LED lamps are DC-powered lamps. This presents a problem for some users when it comes time to replace an incandescent or Xenon strip powered by an AC circuit. The extra costs of AC to DC conversion equipment, plus additional labor fees, are a needless expense for the client and a nuisance for consultants to justify. Phantom led cabinet lighting strips; however, solve this problem with AC low voltage transformers that power the lamps along existing circuitry.

How aesthetic are the actual lighting fixtures themselves?
Custom home builders must always pay attention to aesthetics as much as function. Since design considerations are paramount to winning a contract, many builders have found that the AC Series (Adjustable Concealed) provides their proposal with both them a leading technical and decorative edge over the competition.

The AC series uses custom buss bars that conduct power to each adjustable shelf, resulting in complete concealment of the wiring. Contractors can custom order an AC linear cabinet lighting strip products with either solid metal trims for horizontal applications that require additional decorative highlighting, or with a variety of specialty trims for custom undercabinet lighting or applications above eye level.

These led cabinet lighting strips lights offer a low profile, near-invisible source of illumination that allows the new homeowner to see the light, but not the fixture.

How much lighting control does the homeowner have over these lights?
All Phantom Lighting fixtures of any kind are completely dimmable and come in many popular trim colors. Regardless of the specific LED cabinet lighting are further engineered for superior optics with advanced glare shielding that directs the light toward the intended subject and away from the viewer’s eyes.

With a generous 120-degree beam spread from each light emitting diode, the resulting illumination easily homogenizes or converges to achieve a continuous linear light source. Ultimately, therefore, wine cellar lighting strips with LED Lamps offer not only an equivalent luminosity to linear incandescent strips, but an infinitely superior distribution system that minimizes the fixture and emphasizes the light.

Wine Cellar Lighting Fixtures

What fixtures provide the best wine cellar lighting?
Due to both their flexibility and concealment, Phantom linear cove lighting strips make ideal wine cellar lights as both direct and indirect sources of luminance. In closed, very small environments, they perform very well as the primary light source. In larger cellars where people gather together for conversation and wine tasting, they provide excellent accent lighting that emanates from an apparently invisible source.

What is the best way to light a walk in wine cellar that resembles a long closet more than a room?
The best way to light this type of wine cellar is to mount vertical strip lights on either side of the rear interior of the door frame. The light will shine backward and light up the wine racks and bottles displayed along the back wall.

This completely conceals the LED strip lights themselves, and it creates something of a mystical effect because the light seems to come out of the darkness itself and grow stronger as it moves toward the wine.

What is the best way to light a larger wine cellar designed for small gatherings?
That really depends upon the architecture and the style of your wine racks and cabinets. Because of the customized manufacture of Phantom low voltage lighting strips, the possibilities for wine cellar lighting with Phantom custom lighting strips are as many and varied as wine cellars themselves. Xenon linear lighting strips are often mounted along the tops of cabinets to shine light up the wall and onto the ceiling. They can also be used for silhouette lighting by installing them at that back of wine racks, or showcase lighting within the racks to emphasize the wine label.

What type of lamps should we use for our wine cellar light strips?
Your best option is to go with LED 2800K festoon lamps. These make ideal sources of both direct and indirect wine cellar lighting for a number of reasons. 2800K festoons emanate the warmest possible colour temperature available in LED, making them a viable replacement for incandescent and xenon accent lighting sources. It is very important to use LED lights in any wine cellar if at all possible. LED's do not emit harmful UV radiation, and they do not produce heat which can interfere with refrigeration. This makes them harmless to even the oldest and most sensitive of wines in your cellar.

The actual light produced by the 2800K LED replacement festoon lamp is indistinguishable from that of previous, more primitive technologies. It is much more energy efficient, and it is perfect for creating an atmosphere of warmth, colour, and comfort.

How many strip light models does Phantom manufacture?
We make six basic strip light models in total—all of which are intended to be customized to the specific horizontal or vertical specifications of the surface to which they are mounted. The best to order light strips is to contact our main office and send us blueprints of your wine cellar (if available), along with a series of photographs that will help us manufacture linear lighting strips specific to the dimensions, floor plan, ceiling height, racks, and cabinetry of your wine cellar.

Phantom Lighting Trim Profiles

Phantom Lighting Custom Trim Profiles Provide Ultimate Glare Control From Any Viewing Angle.

What are your standard paint colors?
All Phantom Strip Lights come in eight standard paint finishes, and also come in solid brass, stainless steel, and copper. Fully ETL approved, Phantom puts everything on display in a whole new light.

Are your linear strip lights designed for cove lighting applications?
Yes, Phantom cove lighting fixtures represent what is most possibly the world's most "concealed" indirect lighting source. There are a number of reasons for this. CM linear strip lights are slimmer than standard linear cove lights and fluorescent fixtures. They are designed to hide their physical presence completely, even when placed along the most narrow interior soffits, valances, or custom coves in vaulted ceilings. This offers the eclectic architect considerably more freedom in design.

Low Voltage Display Lighting, Linear Cabinet Lights, LED Strip Lighting, Low Voltage Under Cabinet Lighting from Phantom Systems.

The first display light fixtures were made using fluorescent bulbs. They were highly valued for their ability to use less power than other forms of lighting, and also for their long, tubular design which gave them the ability to create an evenly distributed down light ideal for showcasing collectibles, merchandise, and various ornaments. However, there were two drawbacks to fluorescent lights. For one thing, they produced a flickering, slightly yellow-colored light that was annoyed one’s eyes and even produced headaches in some people. They also radiated ultraviolet light that damaged sensitive items such as certain dies, paints, and fabrics. Lighting manufacturers began to look into developing alternatives to fluorescent bulbs, and they eventually created a diversity of forms that ultimately produced even better cost effective lighting, minimized or outright eliminated ultraviolet light, and created a multitude of colour temperature options ideal for specialty lighting.

A few of the more popular types of display lighting fixtures are discussed in this article, with special attention paid to linear strip lights.

Puck Lights
Puck lights are often used as under cabinet lights and are not strictly classified as display light fixtures. However, xenon under cabinet lights, like puck lights do tend to be the most preferred light source in curio cabinets with mirrored back planes. Because a puck light occupies a central location at the top of the cabinet, the light radiates downward in an expanding cone. The mirror catches a portion of this light and throws it forward, thus magnifying its intensity and creating a field of light that fills the space inside the display.

Other types of cabinet lighting fixtures do not fare nearly as well in cabinets or showcases with mirrored back planes. This is because mirrors tend to reflect equipment as well as light, and the reflection of a metal or linear fixture can be an eyesore to an otherwise ornate showpiece.

Flex Lights
Flex lights are display lighting fixtures that mount on movable arms that can be positioned over the top of a display. They are frequently used by museums to light large displays that are not contained in a case. In fact, very large museum exhibition displays may have two or more flex lights positioned over the top as either a way of creating a central spotlighting effect using a slightly stronger, central flex light, or an even wash of light by using three identical fixtures in a row.

Flex lights are also used extensively in for trade show booth lighting. They can be attached rather quickly to walls and booths and angled toward banners, marketing materials, and merchandise to create a spotlight on your company brand, products, or services.

Recessed Lights
Recessed lights are used a great deal by museums to paintings and statuary. Recessed lighting fixtures offer the advantage of concealment, residing in the ceiling far above the display and casting a precisely aimed beam at the artwork. Halogen lamps are the favored light source for these unobtrusive display fixtures, provided proper glare shielding and dimmers are wired to the units to control brightness levels and heat.

Linear Lighting Strips
Linear LED strip lights combine almost every advantage of other forms of display lighting fixture, and they offer a few additional advantages found in no other light source. Linear strips are very thin and mount either to the topside of a cabinet, case top, or shelf, concealing themselves in much the same fashion as a recessed light. The tiny festoon lamps that line each strip emit a combined radiant down light reminiscent of yesteryear’s fluorescent bulbs, but with none of their negative effects.

Linear display light fixtures like those made by Phantom feature a high level of precision lighting ability. Sophisticated glare shields, color swatches and dimmer controls allow the Phantom light strip to be adjusted to optimal levels for virtually any type of shelf lighting or display case lighting application. Our patented method of shelf standard current conductance makes the Phantom linear strip even more unobtrusive than its counterpoints because it is a practically wireless device with the smallest magnetic low voltage transformer on the market. A variety of lamp types can be fitted to Phantom display lighting fixtures as well, including LED festoon lamps that use only 20% the electricity as other bulb types and produce no ultraviolet light whatsoever. This makes them ideal for retail display lighting and window display lighting because of the amazing power conservation they offer establishments on tight budgets.

One more thing makes the Phantom LED linear strip lights competitive with puck lights as both a display and under cabinet light fixture, and that is the special way the fixtures angle the light backward away from the eyes rather than into the viewer’s face. This creates a soft, very ambient quality of light more appropriate to both personal antique and bookshelf lighting and appropriate as well to high-end museum lighting for artifact and document display cases.

Looking for a Cabinet Lighting Manufacturer? Check Out Phantom Lighting for Energy Saving LED Solutions!

Most cabinet lights are manufactured for either decorative lighting or functional under cabinet lighting. Individuals seeking a linear strip capable of fulfilling both requirements often have difficulty making a single purchase to accommodate their needs. This lack of dual-functionality in many fixtures led in part in part to the creation of Phantom Lighting, a unique manufacturer of cabinet lighting linear strips that can be used for both functional under cabinet task illumination or decorative accent showcasing.

Phantom linear strip lights can be used as either an under cabinet light or a display cabinet light, thus bundling more options into a single fixture that both saves on multiple purchase costs and conserves energy with superior engineering design

Because power cost is rapidly overtaking equipment costs as the primary factor in determining the value of an investment, energy efficient and newer, “green” technology becomes an matter of increasing consideration in light of alarming data on current global warming trends. In some parts of the world, fossil fuels are used to power electrical generators, so the conversation of electricity in turn can have a direct impact on the attempt to minimize and move away from fossil fuel reliance. Cabinet lighting manufacturers have had to answer to the demands of a global market that takes each of these factors into increasingly greater account as equivalent- if not more important- considerations to front end costs.

Today’s shift in the market is going to be a transitional process, as there is both a strong push in some corners to eliminate fossil fuels altogether and heavy resistance in other sectors that insist the oil, coal, and gas industries be maintained as long as time permits. Low voltage lighting manufacturers in California have been ordered by law to stop producing incandescent lights no later than 2010. This is not only to minimize energy uses, but also to eliminate noxious gases within the lamps themselves that have deleterious effects on the Earth’s ozone layer.

Short of a problematic, radical global change, this decision cannot and will not be accomplished overnight.

Because of this simple fact, Phantom Lighting has strategically positioned its value as a cabinet lighting manufacturer in the midpoint of the spectrum, so to speak. We cannot take an exclusionary approach to those who for economic reasons must rely upon incandescents for the time being. At the same time, we seek to do our part to answer the demands of conservation and emerge ultimately as leaders in the “green” movement that gathers momentum daily.

We therefore provide replacement LED festoon lamp options in 12VAC configurations to accommodate both preference and energy efficiency. We also lead our industry with a number of special patents that make certain elements of our technology simultaneously backward and forward compatible. The key to accomplishing this lies in the unique and highly proprietary process that we use to manufacture cabinet lighting strips themselves. We custom manufacture any cabinet or under cabinet LED lighting fixture to the exact specifications, dimensions, and application of client requirement. Our fixtures do not require traditional brackets to attach to cabinet surface areas. Instead, they utilize existing metal shelf standards to conduct electricity and do not require DC power inverters or the intrusive presence of visible wires.

Phantom is one of the only linear lighting manufacturers that treats every order as a special project.

Commercial lighting designers, commercial clients, and private end users all look to Phantom as the Western Hemisphere’s premier linear lighting manufacturer. We have built a distribution network of agent representatives on two continents that equally accommodates the lighting design firm, the corporate facilities manager, and the private homeowner. We manufacture linear lighting fixtures in six unique series to fully accommodate new construction build outs, retrofit applications, and festoon LED upgrades in all commercial and private arenas.

What industries and/or individuals benefit from Phantom linear lighting strips?
Retail showcase lighting lets merchandisers take every advantage of specific lighting levels and lighting safety requirements to fully complement the visual aspects of their product offerings. Cove lighting gives homeowners more options in highlighting specialty interior architecture. Industrial clients use fluorescent Phantom strip lights for under cabinet lighting in break rooms, kitchen areas in construction trailers, and management offices. In the world of decorating, Phantom manufacturers linear lighting products that provide collectors and curators with a number of lamping options ideal achieving for varying effects and power-saving features. .

Does Phantom Lighting provide any unique services?
Phantom is one of the only low voltage linear lighting manufacturers that treat every order as a special project. We believe it makes the most sense to take this approach because virtually every display consists of either a unique set of dimensions and/or a custom design that only exact cutting to measurements can accommodate. This not only facilitates greater ease of installation, but it also creates a more evenly distributed field of light than retail grade showcase lights can offer. We are also a very design-conscious manufacturer. Linear lighting lamps can be equipped with fluorescent, xenon, or LED bulbs depending on client preference and need.

What do specific lamps offer to specific applications?
Jewelry can be very safely showcased under inexpensive fluorescent lights. More sophisticated white light produced by incandescent lamps or the near-natural daylight qualities of xenon low voltage lamps works better to show reds and earth tones. Rare books, antiques, sensitive merchandise, and historical documents are best showcased under LED light strips- the world’s most efficient power saver with only trace amounts of forward throw heat and absolutely no ultraviolet radiation.

What voltage options are available for Phantom lighting strips?
Phantom manufactures home linear strip lights with either 12V or 24V festoons. Our patented engineering design uses existing metal shelf standards to conduct electricity. This is both less obtrusive and less hazardous. The adjustable shelf concept is a patented, innovative design that allows the collector complete flexibility to remove or relocate shelves without tools or any need to disconnect wires. The lights are attached to the individual shelves and are powered through hidden connectors utilizing safe, low-voltage current. Phantom is the only linear lighting manufacturer that has this design, and much of our rising popularity and success derive from its efficiency and ease of use.

Are there other costs benefits to using Phantom Strip lights?
Yes, especially when it comes to LEEDS certification. You can use strip LED lamps to reduce your watts per square foot ratio. Many organizations would like to go “green” with LED lamps, but insufficient funding makes across the board strip lighting replacement unfeasible.

This is again another major point of differentiation between Phantom and competing lighting manufacturers. Linear LED lighting strips in existing displays and shelves do not have to be replaced to qualify for LEEDS certification—only the incandescent and xenon lamps themselves. Phantom LED’s can snap easily into most existing fixtures and do not require a DC power inverter to function on an existing AC wiring network. For those organizations that have a budget for a complete retrofit of entirely new LED strip lighting fixtures, we design the AE (Adjustable Exposed) series specifically to meet this need.

How can I contact Phantom?

LED lamps from Phantom Lighting are easy to install and snap right into place without the need of a technician.

Without exception, the replacement costs of LED bulbs are much less than those of retrofitting entire strip lighting systems. LED festoons are easy to install and snap right into place without the need of a technician. They will upgrade any linear strip light that operates on 12VAC current. In most instances, it makes more sense to keep your existing lighting strips and simply upgrade them with LED lamps. The following FAQ represents a number of key benefits led replacements pass on to display lighting users.

What is the most important benefit Phantom LED replacement bulbs offer upgrade clients?

The primary advantage Phantom holds over competing manufacturers is our technology’s compatibility with AC incandescent and Xenon strip lighting system. We engineer our LED replacement lamps to work on existing AC linear strips with a compact, easily concealed metal transformer. We also engineer these lamps with a higher quality LED bulb replacement than the type normally found in other lamps. Many low-grade diodes made by our competitors produce dimmer levels of light that sacrifice quality to achieve cost savings. On the other hand, Phantom manufactures a much higher-grade lamp with an output range of 42 lumens on the low end to 50 lumens on the high end. This is 5 times higher than any lamp fitted with LED replacement bulbs.

How do lighting levels produced by led replacement bulbs compare with incandescent and Xenon luminescence?

If you use our technology, the light output will be the same. This is due to Phantom’s unique method used to manufacture low voltage LED lamps. Each unit consists of three diodes placed in close proximity to one another that generate a combined, radiant field of high intensity, low-voltage light. These LED’s are engineered to operate at minimal amperage levels and ultimately replace 5-7 watt incandescent and Xenon festoons altogether. In effect, each Phantom LED bulb replacement constitutes a synthesis of high intensity lighting and low-profile equipment. At only 1.7 watts, a Phantom LED lamp generates the same luminosity as a 7-watt festoon while at the same time reducing power consumption by 400%! This makes Phantom bulbs the preferred LED replacement favored by lighting design firms who wish to maximize aesthetics by minimizing fixture visibility using strip lighting products.

In general, what are the main cost benefits of LED replacement upgrades?

LED’s use less power than all other lamps and produce no harmful UV rays. With only trace signatures of heat, they have become a favorite for commercial lighting displays that showcase sensitive items. A Phantom LED replacement bulb will use only 20% of the energy required by an incandescent bulb-- a significant decrease in power costs for homeowners and businesses alike. At 50,000 average hours, LED replacements reduce lamping cycles over incandescent festoon lamps by 500% and xenon festoon lamps by 200%. It is common for our units to perform consistently at optimal levels for up to ten years.

Are there any other benefits I can expect from led bulb replacement?

If you own a business and are seeking to obtain LEEDS certification, you can lower your watts per square foot calculation by upgrading incandescent and Xenon festoon lamps using Phantom LED bulb replacements. These lamps snap easily into place and do not require a technician to install.

Phantom Lighting Systems is a Houston based lighting manufacturer who specializes in LED cabinet lighting and lighting projectors for the illumination of art. Phantom LED Cabinet Lighting Offers the Best Source of Display Lighting for New Work and Remodeling Projects.

Is it true that LED’s cost approximately 5 times as much as other forms of lighting?
The initial, front-end cost of LED lamps is indeed 4-5 times higher than other lamps, and they are worth every penny you spend. When you consider the extremely low power requirements of led lamps (only 20% of other lamps) and their extremely long lamp life (50,000 hours), the accrued back-end savings quickly returns the initial investment. Phantom LED cabinet lights can last up to ten years, so you will not need to worry about replacing them any time soon. They are also the safest form of lighting you can use. They produce none of the UV radiation emitted by fluorescent lamps and only trace amounts of heat. This makes them ideal for illuminating any number of sensitive materials and/or items.

I have heard that LED lights are not as bright as other bulbs. Is this true?
It is not true with our LED cabinet lighting strips. While it is true that many generic LED lamps produce only 5-10 lumens each, Phantom lamps produce up to 50 lumens of safe, brilliant light. Phantom LED lighting strips also provide a full spectrum of color temperatures in order to accommodate both functional and aesthetic lighting demands. Warm white (our incandescent equivalent) begins at 2950K and ranges upward to a more bluish, daylight white at 6500K. The mainstay colors that defined the earliest LED’s---green, red, and blue---are also available in similar temperature colors.

What can Phantom LED cabinet lighting strips be used for?
Phantom Lighting technology is designed to add value to both residential and commercial displays across the board. Works of art, exquisitely tailored clothing accessories, and even rare documents in museum displays can all be brilliantly showcased using Phantom LED linear lighting strips. You can decorate virtually any cabinet, cove, or bookcase with our lighting strips. The added benefit of adjustability offers you the freedom to periodically change displays without altering the intensity of the light or damaging electrical components.

Do Phantom Lighting Strips make dependable, retrofitted upgrades for fluorescent, incandescent, and Xenon strip lights?
Yes, and Phantom even offers an entire series of LED cabinet lights specifically engineered for retrofitting. The AE (Adjustable Exposed) series is manufactured to custom fit exposed metal tracks and to use them as power conductors in a complete circuit. This provides the seamless equivalent of a tailor-made product in spite of its function as a retrofit component!

With the growing push for LEEDS certification, and California’s recent ban on incandescent lamps, now is the time to start thinking seriously about retrofitting antiquated lamping technology. Call us for more information, or click here for details on two important considerations you need to take into account when retrofitting any display lighting product.

Do you offer anything for new construction builds?
Yes. Our AC series is the preferred strip light for new cabinet build outs. “AC” stands for “Adjustable Concealed” and combines a low profile, near-invisible source of light that enables the new homeowner or commercial tenant to see the light, not the fixture. Because the AC series employs custom buss bars that conduct power to each adjustable shelf, the fixture itself is completely concealed from the eye of the average viewer. It has become a fast favorite among custom homeowners who prefer pins and drilled holes to exposed metal supports. The AC series can also be special-ordered with either solid metal trims for horizontal applications that require additional decorative highlighting, or it can be custom cut with a variety of specialty trims for custom under cabinet lighting or applications above eye level.

LED Light Bulbs are the Future of Strip Lighting

LED light bulbs use semiconductor materials rather than filament or neon gas to produce illumination. This solid-state technology offers a number of advantages over other methods of lighting. LED lights are low voltage and consequently enjoy longer bulb light, produce less heat, and consume less energy than their fluorescent under cabinet lights or incandescent counterparts. The exceptionally long bulb life and environmental friendliness of LED light bulbs have made then the next wave in the automotive, commercial, and residential lighting industry. Phantom Lighting leads the way in this evolution, incorporating these amazing devices into a series of strip lighting fixtures that make fine art and display lighting magical, safe, and impeccably ornate in the process.

The miniature size of LED light bulbs makes them an ideal component for Phantom Lighting's proprietary strip lighting series. They offer a perfect fit for small and custom-fitted strip light fixtures. Operating at low voltage, LED light bulbs consume far less energy than other lighting technologies and therefore generate less heat. Incandescent lamps turn 90% of the energy they consume into heat. When they become hot to the touch they can pose a fire hazard and give off enough heat to damage delicate works of art. LED lamps offer the ideal replacement for Incandescent and Xenon festoon lighting systems because they can burn longer without damage to art, offer no physical discomfort or fire hazard from excess heat, and contribute to lower energy bills.

Commercial clients of Phantom Lighting almost universally choose strip lighting manufactured with LED light bulbs to illuminate rare and sensitive artwork. Since many oils and canvases suffer degradation from UV rays and heat, gallery curators prefer low voltage LED light bulbs because of their, cool operating temperatures and absence of UV radiation. LED's render color at a superior index than incandescent and halogen light bulbs. Incandescent and halogen lighting utilizes lenses to produce color. Passing light through a lens, however, causes color to weaken in intensity and lose effect. LED's output colored light directly onto the subject without a lens, producing millions of colors with clarity and vibrancy.

In Cabinet lights with LED bulbs prove ideal for illuminating statuary, china, and fine art. New light emitting diode technology has advanced to include multiple color choices including warm white, moving away from first generation offerings that had a blue tint. This warm white ambiance looks like a magical glow on bookshelves, cabinets, and lighting kitchen under cabinets. LED's offer added value through backward compatibility, as diode technology allows retrofitting to any lighting system operating on 12V alternating current. These bulbs have an extremely long light - the longest, in fact, of any bulb on today's market. Whereas a standard filament bulb lasts for only about 1500 hours, an LED bulb will often last up to 100,000 hours. This significantly reduces maintenance and replacement costs, particularly for those who want specialty lighting fixtures left on throughout the night and even during the day. Savings equivocates to return on investment, so with both energy saving features and longer burn time, LED light bulbs clearly offer a cost-competitive advantage over halogen and incandescent equivalents.

Lighting antique cabinets is just one of the many uses for Phantom Lighting.

I recently acquired a large antique corner cabinet for my home that desperately needs some kind of internal lighting. I have placed the cabinet in a dark wood room which gets very little natural lighting. My home is fairly traditional so, I do not have overhead lighting to wash the cabinet like they did at the antique store. Can you help me?

PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS, particularly the VM Series strip lights are perfect for illuminating antique corner cabinets or any kind of furniture for that matter. The corner cabinet on the left shows our VERTICAL MOUNT STRIP LIGHTS hidden inside the cabinet on both sides as well as a horizontal strip on top to provide an indirect light source. The low voltage transformer was hidden in the base cabinet along with the dimmer control.

This antique corner cabinet pictured above has fixed shelves with scroll fronts. We custom fabricated eight small vertical Phantom light trims to fit between the shelves and connected them together with small wire jumpers to create a continuous light source. All Phantom light trims have a glare shield which prohibits you from seeing the light source from any viewing angle. The internal strip lighting in this corner cabinet is striking at first glance.

Phantom light strips are the Cadillac of low voltage festoon strip lighting. Other manufacturers of linear lighting products, such as rope light, fail to hide the light source. Other strip lighting products would require more intrusive wiring methods which would devalue the cabinet. PHANTOM LIGHTING is all about hiding the source and seeing the light. It's Simple. It's Easy! It's Effective!

For more information on PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS for display lighting or the PHANTOM CONTOUR PROJECTOR for art lighting visit one of our knowledgeable LIGHTING AGENTS for a color brochure. Or you can contact customer service at 800-863-1184 for technical information or specifications.

We are more than happy to help you design and supply a custom cabinet lighting system for your antique cabinet.
