Professional Lighting Equipment
What options does Phantom’s Professional Lighting Equipment offer to builders, electrical contractors, and lighting designers?Phantom’s professional lighting equipment can be customized to any number of commercial and residential marketplaces. Our equipment must feature specification grade design that ensures reliable performance and cost effective energy management, and it is user-friendly enough for the client to manipulate when necessary. Through our Agent network the contractor can obtain a variety of linear lighting products and projector lighting solutions to meet the complex demands of a challenging marketplace.
Does Phantom Lighting make cove lights?
Yes. The Phantom CM series is designed to bend a full 360 degrees if necessary to accommodate any radius, or wind along any varying angle to accommodate a serpentine cove. Standard cove lights have limited applications in these environments because of their fixed linear build. CM series cove lighting fixtures feature a compact design that hides it from the viewer’s eye and uses smaller transformers that are easier to conceal.
Does Phantom Lighting manufacture cabinet lighting fixtures?
Yes. Our professional lighting equipment intended specifically for cabinet lighting can be used for under cabinet, in-cabinet, and over the cabinet lighting. Both horizontal and vertical mount lighting strips are available for these applications. Builders can choose from lamping types that include incandescent, xenon, and LED in a complete spectrum of colour temperatures that will match luminance precisely to custom cabinetry and counter top color and texture. (Be sure to read about our latest development, the 2800K festoon lamp, as an example of this).
Does Phantom Lighting manufacture display lights?
Yes. Phantom specializes in overcoming the challenges of specialty display lighting with professional lighting equipment that is designed to hide its own physical presence within the shelving structure of display cabinets and utilize dimmable, sophisticated festoon lamping technology to showcase any variety of display items. Interior designers often use Phantom linear retail display lights to illuminate antiques, collectibles, and collectors’ firearms that require precise colour temperatures to showcase their true value. Professional lighting designers also prefer our equipment when illuminating items such as wine, rare books, and documents on display that require the totally heat less light source and the superior colour rendering of our 2500K LED festoon lamps.
Does Phantom make art lights?
Yes. Our Phantom Contour Projectors offer a low profile, art lighting fixture that mounts central to the room in the ceiling. The projector itself is smaller than competing models and is virtually invisible to the viewer’s normal line of site. No other form of professional art lighting equipment has proven so successful in minimizing glare and eliminating spill light. This is because Phantom’s proprietary engineering that focuses and shapes the light to the artwork in such a manner as to keep the beam itself invisible until it strikes the surface. This results in a magical “lighted from within” effect that causes the artwork to glow with an aura of seemingly sourceless light. Art consulting professionals use this art lighting equipment to create the most unique art lighting effects, including the illumination of statuary which requires a complex interplay of light and shadow to be effective, and which the Contour Projector is ideal for producing.

Hidden Lighting
Phantom Contour Projector
The Contour Projector gives the collector a truly hidden light in every since of the term. The beam emanating from its lens cannot be seen from any angle of the room, regardless of the position of the viewer. This is a major development in projector technology when comparing projector products. Previous, more primitive equivalents produced a “spotlight” effect, with a beam of light clearly visible to the viewer and excessive spill light that often overpowered the canvas or sculpture. A hidden light beam has both an aesthetic advantage and a technical advantage over this approach. Obviously, art work looks better when there is no visible fixture to clutter the view. More importantly, every work of art can be optimally showcased if the light beam is focused and shaped to fit its unique proportions, texture, color and style.
Phantom Projectors are able to create this effect by focusing white light from a halogen source and passing it through a series of adjustable filters. The filters are set to precisely match the dimensions of a painting or sculpture. When the hidden light from the Contour Projector strikes the art, it suddenly becomes visible as an ambient glow which is called “the lighted from within” effect.
Phantom Linear Strips
While many linear strips can be successfully concealed from the viewer’s line of sight, the equipment used to power them is often difficult to hide. Most hidden strip lights use bulky and cumbersome transformers that are all but impossible to keep out of sight. Wiring is another problem with some hidden lighting strips. Even if the strip itself is not visible, wiring can slip out of wherever they are tucked away and ruin a showcase or display. Truly elegant display lighting and showcase lighting require a hidden source of illumination that not only conceals the strip, but also the electrical components used to power the strip.
Phantom linear LED strip lights were engineered for the design contractor who found larger and more cumbersome pieces to be a frustrating encumbrance to the fine art of interior decorating. Phantom linear strips will work as hidden lights in any display cabinet, bookshelf, breakaway, showcase, cabinet, wine rack, or cove. The key to this diversity in application lies in their basic design. Phantom engineering eliminates visible wiring by conducting electricity along metal shelf standards. It is also powered by a transformer that is much smaller and therefore easier to conceal than those of other strip lights. Perhaps more importantly, each linear light strip is custom manufactured to the precise dimensions of the case, display, rack, or furnishing for which it is intended. This creates a much more seamless and integrated installation of the fixture into its surrounding and hides the light source so effectively that cabinet and display interiors appear to glow with a luminance of their own.
See the Light, Not the Fixture!
This has been our motto from the founding our organization and it summarizes in one sentence the entire purpose of our fine art lighting and display lighting fixtures. With customization and concealment available throughout network of Agents, professional designers, builders, architects, and individual end users can showcase their collections of artwork, collectibles, fine wine, collector’s firearms, private libraries, and even merchandise with our custom hidden lighting products.

Cove Lighting Construction
Linear light strips are idea cove lights to install in new construction projects. Most public buildings, new houses, and new office buildings have some type of cove or variance at or near the ceiling. Installing cove lighting in these areas adds aesthetic and contributes an additional functional element to the building-- provided you use a flexible cove lighting source that can be adapted to virtually any environment. It also adds value to new construction pricing when you install a cove lighting source that can be controlled by the user, and that you can have custom made to seamlessly mount to any environment and any radius bend. Phantom linear cove lighting strips fulfill all three of these requirements in the form of a low-profile and flexible light strip that will fit in building coves as small as 3” from the ceiling and wall.In new construction homes and offices that have extraordinarily narrow coves or valances, linear strips offer a distinct advantage over fluorescent light fixtures. Fluorescent transformers and fixtures are clearly visible in these narrow coves and can detract from the ambiance effect of the light itself. The same quality of lighting can be achieved with a Phantom cove light without revealing its visible presence. It can be field cut or notched to bend and follow any radius along a serpentine cove. Its narrow design also makes it ideal for kitchen soffits, beam trusses, and valances.
Phantom cove lights utilize remote magnetic transformers concealed from normal viewing angles. These low voltage transformers are fully dimmable and allow the end user to dim the lights at will for accent lighting. This offers the facilities manager or homeowner the added value of minimized maintenance through prolonged bulb and fixture life over such products as cove light rope.
Further value is added with your choice in lamp types. Cove lighting fixtures by Phantom can be fitted with incandescent, xenon, or LED festoon lamps. If you are working on any level with new construction LEED certification, you really want to take the time to look at our proprietary LED festoon lamping technology. We have created a lamp design that combines multiple bulb combinations into a single festoon unit that can be fitted to any cove lighting strip. These festoon lamps are so efficient they rival the lumens output of incandescent lamps and nearly approximate those of xenon. This gives the lighting designer who is bidding an install for a new construction project the full range of cove lighting accent options ranging from cool and warm color accents to state-of-the-art green technology that mimics traditional technology with minimal forward throw heat and 80% less the total power costs.
No cove is designed or manufactured the same, and the professionals at Phantom can assist with design development as well as engineering retrofit applications. Phantom Lighting energy saving LED festoons can act as replacements to lamps in existing linear strips provided certain compatibility requirements are met. Power leads can also be ordered to accommodate unique wiring runs, and to balance loads to secondary transformer fusing. The greatest benefit you will gain from our unique approach to cove lighting is a very precise and custom approach to applied technology housed within a fixture that is pure aesthetic on the surface, pure engineering underneath.
Phantom Agents will help you decide which cove lighting options will best meet the needs of your current construction project and act as liaisons between you and the factory to place your order and arrange for drop shipping to your site.

Advantages and Drawbacks of Rope Lights & Cove Rope Lighting
A number of advantages accounts for the popularity of these widespread and highly versatile lighting elements.
Rope lights tend to be very cost effective and extremely easy for the end user to install. A broad spectrum of kits is available that offers the novice considerable choices in colors, styles, and measurements. These lights normally include the option to dim the lights, so 120V rope lights can still be rendered cost effective simply by reducing the level of light. Furthermore, almost every lighting manufacturer makes low voltage lighting and high voltage lighting kits to deliver super savings on energy to the home user on a budget.
Rope lights can be equipped with any number of bulb types ranging from traditional incandescent to revolutionary LED lamps. Both offer their own unique benefits. Incandescents produce a very bright light and can clearly be seen when used in conjunction with normal indoor lighting. Event planners hosting company parties normally choose incandescent bulbs because they remain clearly visible when other room lights are on. On the other hand, rope lights used outdoors normally remain on longer and require greater energy efficiency. LED bulbs are generally preferred in this scenario because they only use 20% of the power as incandescents, and they are super cost conscious when installed on a low voltage lighting system.
Drawbacks
Because they are so inexpensive and easy to install, rope lights are often used by builders as adjunct decorations or for cove lighting in spec homes. However, the flexibility they are renowned for has it limitations. If the rope is bent incorrectly, it can fail to work altogether. In tight coves or area where the wall is striated, these lights will accentuate wall variances and reflect an uneven distribution of light. If “hot” burning bulbs like xenon and incandescent are used, the plastic housing will begin to turn brown from exposer to ultrviolet light over a period of time.
When used in this manner, rope lights are short lived and will eventually require replacement. This additional cost cancels out the initial front-end savings they normally deliver.. Rope lights are also wired in series, so if a single light fails, the entire string fails. At this point a splice can be placed in the line to restore functionality, but the uniformity of the light is compromised and quality begins to diminish.
For these settings, you need an alternative light source, like Phantom LED lighting strips that are specifically designed for lighting indoor coves.

Phantom is one of the only linear lighting manufacturers that treats every order as a special project.
Commercial lighting designers, commercial clients, and private end users all look to Phantom as the Western Hemisphere’s premier linear lighting manufacturer. We have built a distribution network of agent representatives on two continents that equally accommodates the lighting design firm, the corporate facilities manager, and the private homeowner. We manufacture linear lighting fixtures in six unique series to fully accommodate new construction build outs, retrofit applications, and festoon LED upgrades in all commercial and private arenas. What industries and/or individuals benefit from Phantom linear lighting strips?
Retail showcase lighting lets merchandisers take every advantage of specific lighting levels and lighting safety requirements to fully complement the visual aspects of their product offerings. Cove lighting gives homeowners more options in highlighting specialty interior architecture. Industrial clients use fluorescent Phantom strip lights for under cabinet lighting in break rooms, kitchen areas in construction trailers, and management offices. In the world of decorating, Phantom manufacturers linear lighting products that provide collectors and curators with a number of lamping options ideal achieving for varying effects and power-saving features. .
Does Phantom Lighting provide any unique services?
Phantom is one of the only low voltage linear lighting manufacturers that treat every order as a special project. We believe it makes the most sense to take this approach because virtually every display consists of either a unique set of dimensions and/or a custom design that only exact cutting to measurements can accommodate. This not only facilitates greater ease of installation, but it also creates a more evenly distributed field of light than retail grade showcase lights can offer. We are also a very design-conscious manufacturer. Linear lighting lamps can be equipped with fluorescent, xenon, or LED bulbs depending on client preference and need.
What do specific lamps offer to specific applications?
Jewelry can be very safely showcased under inexpensive fluorescent lights. More sophisticated white light produced by incandescent lamps or the near-natural daylight qualities of xenon low voltage lamps works better to show reds and earth tones. Rare books, antiques, sensitive merchandise, and historical documents are best showcased under LED light strips- the world’s most efficient power saver with only trace amounts of forward throw heat and absolutely no ultraviolet radiation.
What voltage options are available for Phantom lighting strips?
Phantom manufactures home linear strip lights with either 12V or 24V festoons. Our patented engineering design uses existing metal shelf standards to conduct electricity. This is both less obtrusive and less hazardous. The adjustable shelf concept is a patented, innovative design that allows the collector complete flexibility to remove or relocate shelves without tools or any need to disconnect wires. The lights are attached to the individual shelves and are powered through hidden connectors utilizing safe, low-voltage current. Phantom is the only linear lighting manufacturer that has this design, and much of our rising popularity and success derive from its efficiency and ease of use.
Are there other costs benefits to using Phantom Strip lights?
Yes, especially when it comes to LEEDS certification. You can use strip LED lamps to reduce your watts per square foot ratio. Many organizations would like to go “green” with LED lamps, but insufficient funding makes across the board strip lighting replacement unfeasible.
This is again another major point of differentiation between Phantom and competing lighting manufacturers. Linear LED lighting strips in existing displays and shelves do not have to be replaced to qualify for LEEDS certification—only the incandescent and xenon lamps themselves. Phantom LED’s can snap easily into most existing fixtures and do not require a DC power inverter to function on an existing AC wiring network. For those organizations that have a budget for a complete retrofit of entirely new LED strip lighting fixtures, we design the AE (Adjustable Exposed) series specifically to meet this need.
How can I contact Phantom?

If you are a commercial designer specializing in linear lighting, our manufacturer agents will act as distribution interface to custom-design the product to meet your client’s precise specifications. If you are a commercial or residential client in need of technical support, our representative agents will assist you in designing and installing your new display lighting fixtures. How do I calculate amperage, wattage and correct wire sizes for Phantom low voltage lighting strips?
I am trying to calculate loads and select a transformer for a cove lighting job using your strip lights. I want to be sure that I am using the right size wire and fuses. Can you give me some pointers on what to do?If you are not an electrician calculating wire size, amperage and fusing can be quite confusing. Let's take a look at calculating wire size first. All PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTS are fabricated with 16 gauge wire and have a maximum feed through capacity of 13.33 amps in a free air environment. In other words, it is not in a conduit with other wires that can entrap heat and affect the ampacity of the wire.
What amperage a wire can handle is decided by the wire size. Here are some examples:
- 16 gauge wire is rated for up to 10 amps
- 14 gauge wire is rated for up to 15 amps
- 12 gauge wire is rated for up to 20 amps
- 10 gauge wire is rated for up to 30 amps
- 8 gauge wire is rated for up to 40 amps
Another wiring method would be to combine two 300 watt loads using a 10 gauge wire back to the transformer. The maximum size fuse on any PHANTOM TRANSFORMER is 25 amps. You might have several of these 25 amps circuit breakers depending on the size of the transformer. Refer to our transformer information page for more specific information and suggested wiring layouts.
To play it safe, ask the professionals at Phantom Lighting System to help design, specify and engineer your project. We are here to help and want your project to be safe and successful. It is always best when installing our lighting system to consult with a qualified electrician or handy man.
