Under Cabinet Lighting Manufacturer

Phantom Lighting is a manufacturer of custom under cabinet light fixtures committed to equipping the architect, home builder, and interior lighting designer with custom-made task lighting fixtures for kitchens that need more than simple functional lighting. The unique aesthetic created by our custom cabinet lighting strips contributes an added value to the practical demands of countertop lighting. In addition to a scalability that makes them one of the most concealed under cabinet lighting sources available anywhere, a number of proprietary manufacturer designs also make them the most versatile linear fixtures in a world of highly custom architecture, design, and interior schemes.

One of the most unique low voltage undercabinet light fixtures offered by our company is a proprietary LED festoon lamp with lumens per watt ratio previously unattainable by any under cabinet lighting manufacturer. The genius of its design lies in its physical structure and advanced lighting and heat control features. Combining three LED bulbs into one physical lamp structure, the Phantom LED festoon operates at only 1.7 watts—yet it outputs the same level of light as a 5-watt xenon bulb! The Phantom LED festoon lamp also features a proprietary heat sink that draws the forward throw heat away from the direction that the beam is travelling. With these fixtures, an architect can furnish the homeowner with a high-end light source that is virtually heat-free and fully capable of illuminating any surface with an equally decorative and functional

Phantom manufactures LED undercabinet lighting fixtures to be far more easy to conceal than those made by other manufacturers. Our linear strips are thinner and more compact. They can be concealed behind the forward lip at the bottom of any sized kitchen cabinet. In the event that the cabinet has no such reveal in the front, a trim carpenter can usually add trim pieces that match the color and texture of the wood and thereby conceal the fixtures. This ability to assume a hidden position in almost any kitchen environment actually inspired our manufacturer brand—Phantom—and also inspired our motto, “see the light, not the fixture.”

Not only does this design produce a better quality of light, but it also produces a more controllable source of kitchen under cabinet lighting. As a custom fixture manufacturer, each individual trim style is engineered with its own unique angle of light distribution. This allows builders to choose an angle of incidence directly proportional to the surface area of the countertop being illuminated. The forward mounted position of the fixtures, combined with a very precise distribution pattern of luminance, sends the light backward across the surface of the counter into the backsplash. This minimizes the reflective glare that is common when lighting marble and granite countertops, and it creates both an aesthetic and a level of comfort for the eyes that unify the dual purpose of aesthetics and function for which LED undercabinet lights are intended.

Other manufacturer features that distinguish Phantom strip lighting fixtures include low-voltage power and user-friendly dimmability. As low-voltage devices, these luxury lights create an exceptionally chic compliment to kitchen décor without exorbitant electrical consumption. If the builder opts for incandescent or xenon lamps over LED, the dimmability of our strip lights further allows for reduction of power load and heat by reducing the wattage requirements of the lamp proportional to the level of accent lighting that the homeowner selects. This also has the additional benefit of extending incandescent lamp life and creating even more savings through reduced maintenance and replacement costs.

Our under cabinet lighting manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas, which in turn distributes these specialty linear lights through a nationwide network of lighting supply channels, distributorships, and sales representatives in cities such as Rhinelander, WI (RHI), Yakima, WA (YKM), Windsor Locks, CT (BDL), Mason City, IA (MCW), Sault Ste Marie, MI (CIU), Binghamton, NY (BGM), Lawton, OK (LAW), Pasco, WA (PSC), St Cloud, MN (STC), and Hyannis, MA (HYA). Designing Adjustable Cabinet Lights

If you are building cabinets with adjustable shelves mounted on metal brackets, Phantom Lighting offers you the option of building custom display cabinet lights right into the shelving at the time of construction. These linear fixtures are low-voltage units designed for maximum light output and minimal power consumption. With color temperatures ranging from 3500K-2800K, they are guaranteed to accentuate your product’s aesthetic and directly increase its market value.

With the energy efficiency generated by Phantom LED cabinet lights, you can offer to reduce your clients’ decorative lighting costs by as much as 60%. When you combine this type of savings with superb carpentry and high-end lighting, you add return on investment value to product quality and increase the selling power of your bid with some of the most ingenious technology ever introduced to the world of cabinet lighting.

In spite of its highly flexible nature and diverse range of application, the Phantom adjustable shelf cabinet lighting system consists of some amazingly simple components. These are the cabinet lights themselves, a CDA kit for each linear strip, a pair of bus bars, and a small, low-voltage transformer that is easy to conceal.

The CDA kit replaces the standard metal shelf brackets with a pair of highly conductive brass shelf supports and corresponding brass contact pads. The bus bars are vertical metal strips that are mounted flush within the interior walls of the cabinet. When a cabinet maker contacts our factory and places a purchase order, both the bus bars and the cabinet lights themselves are custom built to match the dimensions of the structure’s interior.

Each cabinet lighting installation requires only one pair of bus bars per section, and each linear strip light requires only one corresponding CDA kit per shelf. These components, along with a small, low-voltage transformer that is easy to conceal, are all that is necessary to create a completely hidden light, wireless light source that will illuminate everything from rare books and antique china to sentimental curios and fine bottles of wine.

Installing your low voltage lighting strips is a simple process that takes only a few minutes to complete. Begin by routing out a 1/4” channel on each interior wall of the cabinet. Route this channel directly at the point where you intend to mount the metal shelf brackets. Install the bus bar in this channel flush with the surface of the wall. Then, use the screws in the CDA kit to affix the shelf brackets directly to the bus bars at whatever height you wish to place the shelves. The bus bars have plenty of screw holes, so you can create all sorts of display options for your clients simply by moving a pair of brackets up or down.

One the shelf brackets are in place, attach the brass contact pads in your CDA kit to the ends of each shelf. Install the cabinet lighting fixtures behind the front reveal of every shelf, and then connect them to the contact pads with the small wires that come with the CDA kit. (You do not need an electrician to do this). Now, when the shelf is placed on the bracket, the power will flow from the bus bars through the mounting bracket, then complete circuit through the contact pads connected to the lighting strips.

If you are a lighting designer, these wireless cabinet AE Series lights can help tip the scales in favor of your proposal with any client who wishes to showcase something special in his or her home or office. If you are a private collector, or simply a homeowner looking to enliven the living room with a new level of light, you can upgrade from outdated and inefficient battery lights to LED wireless cabinet lights that will save on power and provide you with any desired lighting effect you can imagine…at a fraction of the cost of incandescent bulbs or batteries that have to be replaced on an ongoing basis.

Under Counter Kitchen Lights

Undercounter lighting is necessary to both the aesthetics and overall functionality of kitchen design and workflow. Dark spots under cabinets make it hard to see colors and work with tools. Food preparation is difficult (and sometimes a bit unsafe) if you do not have an adequate source of glare-free light to work with. It is also more difficult if the light is unevenly distributed or brighter in some places than in others.

Fluorescent under cabinet lights have long been used for undercounter lighting sources for many reasons. Originally developed as energy efficient task lights, fluorescents could operate for long hours with lower energy cost and less frequent lamp replacements. It made sense to then adapt these same sources to indoor task lighting applications like under undercounter kitchen lighting. In some ways, they are ideal for this task—provided the lighting is uniform and aesthetic outcome is not the highest priority.

Fluorescent undercounter kitchen lights are segmented fixtures that mount in series underneath the rear of the cabinet. Depending on type and origin of manufacture, these segments vary in length. Ideally, these segments can be lined from side to side, end to end, and evenly distribute light across the countertop.

Fluorescent undercounter lighting can work very well in such a setting if the counter features a matte finish that reflects virtually no light, and provided that the fixtures can completely line the posterior undersurface of the cabinet. You will encounter problems, however, if you are looking to build a custom home with more sophisticated cabinetry and countertop design.

Custom cabinets vary and cabinet light solutions cut to standard lengths cannot precisely match their horizontal surface. A series of fluorescent fixtures can still be installed here, but there will be gaps on one end or both due to the fact that standard lengths, even when combined, may not precisely match horizontal measurements. You will see an immediate, noticeable deterioration in the quality of undercounter lighting. Dark spots will appear under the sides of your cabinet due to the lack of lighting uniformity.

The problem becomes more compounded if you are planning to install a granite or marble countertop. Because these surfaces are so reflective, glare becomes just as much of an enemy as shadow. Fluorescent undercounter lights installed at the back of the cabinet will not work here because they will shine light forward across the counter which will then reflect up into the eyes.

For these situations, LED undercounter lighting with linear strips is much more effective than fluorescent lighting. Because they mount to the forward undersurface of the cabinet, they direct light backward away from the eyes and provide a higher quality aesthetic. Custom made strips are to be preferred above standard-sized linear strips because they can be manufactured to fit the exact horizontal dimensions of the cabinet. Glare shields should also be present, with options in light distribution angles offered by the manufacturer as well. Lights should also fitted with dimmers so homeowners can adjust countertop lighting to match general room lighting levels. Furthermore, multiple lamp options should be made available to the builder who needs freedom of choice in selecting light source and color temperature.

To meet all of these requirements, Phantom Lighting engineered the TM series linear task light for kitchen cabinet lighting. The TM strip light can be fitted with your choice of incandescent, xenon, or LED festoon lamps. This series comes in 5 available trims, each one having a specific light distribution angle that allows you to precisely match beam spread in kitchen cabinet lighting applications. TM linear strips are 100 percent dimmable, so homeowners can easily and instantly adjust light levels. Each strip is also glare shielded to minimize spill light and direct the majority of luminance away from the eyes into the back splash.

We have further developed our technology with the patenting a new LED festoon lamps that can closely imitate the color rendering and luminance output of xenon—at only 60 percent of the power consumption. Furthermore, heat sinks built into our festoons make it a cool-operating light source that can be left on for long periods of time without measurable heat buildup.
You can order Phantom LED festoons in the warm color temperature of 2800K, the slightly cooler 2950K, and the cool color 5000K. You can also order incandescent and xenon lamps in the same color temperatures for special, luxury under counter lighting applications. If this is your decision, we recommend you use dimmer controls to minimize heat and power consumption, which will also help keep temperature down and maximize lamp life.

We manufacture cabinet lighting fixtures in our Houston, Texas facility. A network of nationwide lighting supply sales representatives fans out throughout all 50 states into cities like Scottsdale, Arizona, Seattle, Washington (SEA), Los Angeles, CA (LAX) Boston, Massachusetts (BOS), Princeton, NJ (EWR), Philadelphia, PA (PHL), Dallas, Texas (DWF), Chicago, IL (ORD), Baltimore, MD (BWI), and Minneapolis, MN (MSP). Lighting Antique Corner Cabinets

Corner cabinet lighting can present some unique challenges to the carpenter and the designer. On an aesthetic level, one has to precisely match the color temperature of the light to the contents on display to most appropriately showcase their color and form. On a functional level, the designer must select corner cabinet lights that offer some means of controlling heat buildup within the cabinet interior, or install a light source that will produce less heat without sacrificing lighting levels or lighting quality.

To better understand how the present generation of corner cabinet lights evolved in the first place, we need to take a look at back in history. In the very beginning, there were only incandescent lights. Corner cabinets were originally built with hand soldered incandescent lighting strips built into the displays themselves. Incandescent was and still is the closest match to natural sunlight, so early corner cabinet lighting solutions produced a luminance that was incredibly “golden” in tone and ideal for lighting fine antiques and rare collectibles. However, these lights produced considerable heat output that was further magnified by glass door enclosure. Also, incandescents only lasted for a short period of time. Even to this day, incandescent bulbs of any kind suffer from the shortest lamp life on the market.

To create a light source with longer lamp life, cabinet lighting manufacturers began to develop a new, hybrid form of incandescent light called xenon. They also developed dimmer controls that would allow display owners to raise and lower lighting levels at will. Xenon still had the slightly golden appearance of incandescent lights, only with a slightly lighter, whiter tone. It quickly became the new standard in custom cabinet furniture lighting, and the new technology of the dimmer control allowed for forward throw heat to be directly controlled for the first time. The only disadvantage to this, however, was that reducing heat meant reducing the level of light. For some very elaborate antique and collectible displays, this meant creating too much darkness for maximum aesthetic.

The ultimate solution to all of these concerns came with the most recent development in corner cabinet lighting-- LED technology. LED allows us now to create much higher lighting levels with less heat. The patent pending Phantom LED festoon lamp, for example, is a 1.7 watt unit that emits the equivalent of 5 watt xenon bulb. However, the heat generated in the production of light is dissipated by a heat sink that draws heat away from the cabinet interior. Additional benefits of LED technology are the longest lamp life of any light source and a power consumption of only 20%-40% that of previous technologies.

Ranging in terms of the warmest to coolest, LED festoons are available in color temperatures 2800K, 2950K and 5000K. Of course, Phantom has a policy never to limit the choices of our clients for display cabinet lighting. Some decorators have already determined specific ambient qualities they wish to create that require xenon or incandescent strip lights. For such clients, we recommend the use of dimmer controls to control heat, and we also suggest that lights be turned off for periods of time. Also, our engineers strongly recommend that for lighting closed corner cabinets with glass doors, one should use xenon bulbs rated at 3 or 5 watts. Anything more than that will generate too much heat buildup to effectively control without sacrificing luminance and aesthetics.

Our home lighting manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas, which in turn distributes these specialty linear lights through a nationwide network of lighting supply channels, distributorships, and sales agents in cities such as Rhinelander, WI (RHI), Yakima, WA (YKM), Windsor Locks, CT (BDL), Mason City, IA (MCW), Sault Ste Marie, MI (CIU), Binghamton, NY (BGM), Lawton, OK (LAW), Pasco, WA (PSC), St Cloud, MN (STC), and Hyannis, MA (HYA). Under Cabinet Lighting Lights

Phantom under cabinet lights are distinguished by a variety of unique attributes that allow them to be adapted to any custom kitchen. Counter tops appear exceptional when illuminated with Phantom products thanks to a number of patented components and a robust set of options in lamp type and color temperature.

To begin with, each under cabinet lighting strips is custom manufactured to the under surface of the specific kitchen cabinet to which it mounts. Because we make our fixtures much smaller than fluorescent under cabinet lights, their low profile design makes them almost impossible to detect. Additionally, under cabinet lighting strip can be adjusted with a dimmer switch that allows for lighting levels to be raised or lowered at will. Traditional xenon lamping options are available for these strips, along with new LED festoon technology that generates a lumens output and quality of light that closely approximates xenon.

If you are an architect, builder, or designer, these characteristics give you a number of advantages over previous xenon under cabinet lighting technologies. To begin with you do not have to worry about chasing down fixtures to fit cabinets with custom dimensions or unique specifications. If you will send us your spec sheets or drawings, we can use these as a template to manufacture your under cabinet lights to match your cabinet out so you can install them directly into its structure at the time of build out.

Because our kitchen under cabinet lights are smaller than competing, standard linear lights, they remain invisible from a normal standing or seated position. Your clients will see the light, but they will not see the fixture. This adds value to the work of the interior decorator, who no longer has to worry about his or her work being diminished by extruding equipment. Additionally, our patented new LED light bulb technology is now able to rival xenon in lumens output; yet it is by nature energy saving, and it offers the additional advantage of a cool operating source that can be left on throughout the night without risk of overheating.

As an construction or design professional, one of the most important benefits you will receive from Phantom’s under cabinet lighting manufacturing process is a complete freedom in design options that allows you to specify what you deem fit without having to worry if you can find fixtures to match. We can make them match. More options than ever before exist when it comes to LED color temperatures, and the continued availability of xenon lamps allows you to opt for traditional linear strip lighting sources with the added value of lighting control that can minimize heat and extend lamp life. Adding the “golden touch” to counter tops and back planes can be done with less heat and with extended xenon lamp life thanks to Phantom dimmer technology.

We do, however, strongly recommend you consider the benefits of new, improved LED lamps that can give you virtually the same results—particularly with the warm color temperature of the 2800K. This, along with the respectively cooler color temperature options of the 2950K and the 5000K, will allow you to illuminate virtually any surface in the kitchen.

About Phantom Lighting Systems

Phantom Lighting is a pioneer, Houston-based art lighting company and low voltage lighting manufacturer established in 1981 to service the lighting and design community. Phantom Contour Projector and Phantom strip lights feature lighting technology that is completely unique, 100% proprietary, and found nowhere else in the world of lighting. Phantom’s revolutionary approach to decorative picture lighting and low voltage display, shelf, and under cabinet lighting has taken it from humble origins to the level of an international leader in lighting manufacturing on two continents. We offer two unique products: Phantom Contour Art Lighting Projectors and Phantom LED and Xenon Linear Strip Lighting.

Phantom Contour Art Lighting Projectors
Phantom art lighting museum projectors feature ideal optics and photometric capabilities ideally suited to fine art illumination. These low voltage lighting projectors feature halogen light fixtures and produce a very unique quality of luminance called “the lighted from within effect.” Phantom recessed picture lights are easy to install and extremely versatile, because of their small, compact size and small ceiling aperture.

The Phantom Projector incorporates a parabolic aluminized reflector 75MR16/FO halogen based lamp in its design compared to other projectors. These lamps were originally used for the fiber optic industry, where detailed light focusing is required. The typical rated life of this lamp is around 4000 hours, giving the enthusiast of exquisite paintings plenty of time to enjoy their precious piece, before having to replace the bulb. The surface mount projector is the ideal choice for lighting any type of fine art. This adjustable framing projector has a sleek design, which is unobtrusive and perfect for accenting brush stroke details, along with other vital elements of your paintings. The design of Phantom art projector lights will ensure that your frames are pampered, so they are not damaged.

Phantom Linear Strip Lighting
Phantom LED strip lighting replaces soon-to-be antiquated lighting sources of fluorescent and halogen light bulbs. Phantom strip lights utilize LED lamps that employ semiconductor technology to generate illumination. This reduces the risk of fire hazards that result from overheated lighting equipment and cuts cost on energy consumption. Phantom LED strip lighting delivers value to both commercial and residential lighting arenas and is sweeping the technology world as the wave of the future.

The most popular application for xenon linear lighting is under cabinet lighting. This is due to xenon’s ability to render both cool and warm colors with equal depth and distinction. Incandescent lighting also has a high CRI (color rendering index) when it comes to lighting cool colors such as white or off white counter tops. However, for the deep blues and reds commonly seen in today’s marble and granite counter tops, a more robust source of lighting like that produced with xenon festoons is preferable. Both granite and marble are hard composite stones with multiple layers of vibrantly colored minerals embedded in their substance. Xenon linear under cabinet lights produce enough light to clearly illuminate the many complex colors and patterns in the stone while at the same time adding something of a three-dimensional look to the counter top. By extending the “depth” of the surface, reflective glare is minimized, making for a more sheik and refined appearance appropriate to today’s larger, more elaborate custom kitchen and bathroom décor.

Our home lighting manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas. A network of nationwide distributorships and sales representatives fans out throughout all 50 states into cities like Scottsdale, Arizona, Seattle, Washington (SEA), Los Angeles, CA, (LAX) Boston, Massachusetts (BOS), Princeton, NJ (EWR), Philadelphia, PA, Dallas, Texas (DWF), Pasadena, California, Chicago, IL (ORD), Baltimore, MD (BWI), and Minneapolis, MN (MSP). We also service clients internationally, with lighting manufacturer representatives working out of Canada, Mexico, Central America, and South America.

Cabinet Lighting Fixtures

Phantom cabinet light fixtures feature a low voltage transformer that is smaller than industry standard size and much easier to conceal. This enables builders and contractors to install our cabinet light fixtures to be used inside cabinets of any size. Phantom cabinet light fixtures are available in vertical mount and horizontal mount designs to enable custom cabinet lighting in any environment. These lights are a preferred source of illumination in places where an evenly distributed, bright, and glare free light are an absolute necessity. Contractors find our display lighting fixtures ideal for such places as kitchens, bathrooms, storage cabinets in workstations, and special displays in certain retail and public showcasing environments.

Phantom linear cabinet light fixtures feature some very unique, proprietary, and patented technology. Our engineers have developed a wireless method of conductivity that eliminates the need for visible wiring and uses metal shelf standards to send current to the lamps. The linear strip light fixtures themselves are slim and low profile, and any number of festoon options are available. Each cabinet lighting fixture is custom made to the exact vertical or horizontal dimensions of the mounting surface, and dimmer controls on the concealed transformer allow the user to select any number of lighting levels and effects.

Under Cabinet Lighting Fixtures
Phantom 12 volt under cabinet light fixtures are a favored source of under cabinet lighting for these reasons. Additionally, contractors often prefer Phantom linear strips fort their superior abilities at reducing reflective glare off of counter top surfaces. Puck lights mount in the center of the cabinet underbelly and tend to create white spots on the counter below. The larger fluorescent under cabinet light fixtures mount toward the back of the cabinet, creating the undesirable effect of throwing light straight into a person’s eyes. However, Phantom xenon linear lighting strips for under cabinet lighting mount just beneath the front of the cabinet and direct the light at an angle of incidence away from the viewer’s eyes, back toward the wall. This creates a smooth, even distribution of light that can be fine tuned even further with user friendly dimming controls on the unit. This is probably why we are now experiencing such an influx of orders from commercial contractors through our US and Canadian lighting sales agent network.

If cost is an issue, these linear strips can be made to pay for themselves over time. Any under the cabinet lighting fixture we manufacture can be ordered from our factory as a 12V linear strip and fitted with incandescent, xenon, or LED festoon lamps. This allows the contractor to match the countertop and surrounding kitchen decorations to the optimal light source and color rendering needed for best results. Combined with a 12V transformer fitted with a dimmer switch the homeowner can adjust at will, even the most sophisticated xenon lamps now save power at an extraordinary level. Businesses seeking LEED certification can also replace fluorescent pucks and strip lights with Phantom LED strip light fixtures. Unlike competing festoons, our patented lamping design generates 50 lumens per lumen on an LED strip light, making it nearly equivalent to xenon and far more of an energy saver at the end of the day.

Cabinet Lights

Cabinet lights are found in a variety of residential and commercial environments, and they are used for both decorative and functional lighting purposes. Cabinet lighting installations in kitchens is intended to eliminate pockets of shadow both within cabinets and underneath cabinets. Cabinet lights also play an important role in decorating and illuminating guest baths in custom homes. Work areas in the home and in the office also need under cabinet lighting and in cabinet lighting to alleviate strain on the eyes and to maintain a positive, upbeat momentum in process flow. Finally, any type of special display in a residence, business, or retail environment often benefits from custom cabinet lighting that functions to place the subject in its own unique light that differentiates it from its surroundings.

In most settings, the most effective source for cabinet lighting comes in the form of low profile linear strips. These strips offer several advantages over more generic under cabinet fluorescent lights and puck lights. They are smaller, and therefore less visible. They typically render color at a superior level, and they are adjustable because, unlike fluorescent, they can be dimmed to any desired level. Phantom Lighting manufactures six lines of linear strips that feature some very proprietary and unique transformer, power distribution, and lamping designs. Five of these lighting strips can be used for cabinet lighting or under cabinet lighting fixtures.

Whether you have cabinets with glass or wooden shelves, these linear strip lights can be adjusted for an ideal fit. The vertical mount (VM) series, for example, is field notched to clear your shelves, and the lamps are spaced in conjunction with your cabinet structure. These strip devices provide even illumination to surrounding objects, bringing out color and intricate details, which may be hidden otherwise.

This display cabinet lighting can provide an important component in any cabinet that features custom shelving, and that is used to showcase rare collectibles or special edition hardcover books. Other types of cabinet lights from this unique lighting manufacturer include the adjustable concealed (AC) series, adjustable exposed (AE), horizontal mount (HM), and the task light (TL) series. Phantom also offers the cove mount (CM) design for cove settings.

One of the most unique features of Phantom’s cabinet lights is the way they are designed. Using existing metal shelf standards to conduct an electrical current, a clandestine low voltage transformer allows energy to flow through the shelf standards and mounting clips. When the shelf is in position, the entire circuit is completed. This specialized design gives the user the versatility of not having to use tools to remove or relocate shelves. This adjustable shelf concept is unique to Phantom Lighting, and it provides the user with the advantage of a cabinet light that uses no exposed wiring.

Phantom curio cabinet lights can be fitted with any number of lamping options. For warm color rendering, incandescent bulbs can be inexpensively fitted to your strip lights. A more refined light can be produced by xenon lamps that can be used to illuminate the most exquisite and rare of collectibles. Xenon Linear Strip Lighting Works Well for both Direct & Indirect Lighting Applications.

What is the most popular use for xenon linear lights?
The most popular use for these high-end fixtures is under cabinet lighting. Xenon’s ability to render both cool and warm colors equally well makes it ideal for lighting surfaces with more than complex color patterns. Incandescent lighting also has a high CRI (color rendering index) when it comes to lighting cool colors such as white or off white counter tops. However, for the deep blues and reds commonly seen in today’s marble and granite counter tops, a more robust source of lighting like that produced by xenon festoons is preferable. Both granite and marble are hard composite stones with multiple layers of vibrantly colored minerals embedded in their substance. Xenon linear strip lights produce light bright enough to clearly illuminate the many subtle shades and colors in the stone while at the same time adding something of a three-dimensional look to the counter top. By extending the “depth” of the stone’s surface, reflective glare is minimized, creating a more refined look appropriate to today’s larger, more elaborate custom kitchen and bathroom decor.

What do I need to look for when selecting fixtures?
It is important to keep certain considerations in mind when choosing xenon linear light fixtures. For one, find a fixture that offers not only advanced metal glare shielding, but also operates on low voltage with user-friendly dimmer controls. Especially when it comes to display cabinet lighting, dimmers are essential to adjusting the lighting levels in congruent balance with overhead kitchen lighting. Different occasions may call for different levels of light, and it will be necessary to turn the lights up and down to set the mood for different events and maintain to maintain symmetry and a sense of balanced aesthetic in the room.

But aren’t xenon linear light strips more expensive than fluorescent and incandescent lights?
Only in terms of front-end purchase cost. The return on investment they offer far outweighs the initial expenditure.

Are xenon linear lights only used for cabinet and under cabinet lighting?
Not necessarily.

While many manufacturers design xenon linear lights specifically for in cabinet and under cabinet lighting, Phantom strip lights are design for a multiplicity of applications and are capable of producing equally superior results in both commercial and residential applications. Phantom low voltage festoon lamps feature a special, patented design that conserves wattage and maximizes lumens output. This means they produce more light and consume less power, making them particularly cost effective for any commercial client on a budget.

The golden, ambient quality of xenon lighting works well to accentuate the rich colors of specialty fabric, fine jewelry, and even antique artifacts and rare documents in museum and public library displays.

On the home front, Phantom linear xenon festoons are a favorite choice among antique collectors with custom curio cabinets and ornate wooden display cases. They also make excellent bookshelf lights for the collector of special edition hardbacks and out of print books.

Phantom strip lights are designed as low-profile fixtures that blend so well into their surroundings that they are nearly invisible. For decorative and functional lighting needs, their unobtrusive presence allows for greater freedom of design, and their patented system of metal glare shields, wireless power transmission, and their fully dimmable power sourcing allow for any setting to be quickly made without risk of shock or damage to equipment.

Our Low Voltage Lighting System uses Incandescent, Xenon, Halogen or LED Light Bulbs.

What are the benefits of low voltage lighting systems?
Low voltage lighting systems allow you to use powerful and precise sources of light for a fraction of the cost of high voltage equivalents. Low voltage lighting systems can use incandescent, Xenon, or LED light bulbs at a fraction of the cost of high voltage equivalents.

Because they are so efficient they also require less maintenance than 120VAC systems. The average lamp life on a low voltage system is normally 4,000 hours. The key to achieving this efficiency lies in the use of magnetic transformers that reduce 120VAC to either 24VAC or 12VAC. These transformers are either surface mounted installed in remote locations outside of viewing angles.

They can also be manufactured with decorative designs that blend more harmoniously with surroundings.

These arrays can also be equipped with dimmer switches to generate further savings. Dimmers are very user friendly and allow for precise regulation of current at the turn of a knob or the touch of a button.

What types of low voltage lighting systems are there?
There are both outdoor low voltage lighting systems and indoor low voltage lighting systems.

12VAC and 24VAC outdoor lighting arrays figure prominently in the world of landscape lighting. This is because they are so highly effective in producing a number of accent lighting techniques that add dimension and emphasis to trees, gardens, man made architecture and three-dimensional art.

For path lighting, walkway lighting, step lighting, and any type of decorative lighting along walls and patios, they simply cannot be outperformed. The reason for this fact is simple. These lights have to be left on throughout the night both to ensure safe passage for pedestrians and to maintain a consistent visual presentation. It is seldom cost effective to do this with a 120VAC system because of power costs.

Indoor low voltage lighting systems tend to be more decorative, providing ambient accent lighting in cabinets and overall decor.

Indoor low voltage lighting systems can be very simple, consisting of only a few decorative art lighting fixtures or projector lighting fixtures positioned in key locations in living rooms, dens, or bathrooms.

They can also be much more complex, representing entire subsystems on a home lighting control network tied to touch panels, automated timers, and wireless controls.

What types of indoor low voltage lighting systems are available?

There are three major categories of low voltage indoor lights: linear, recessed, and surface mounted.

Linear lighting strips are normally used as display lights that when showcasing collectibles or fine hardback books. They are also very popular in kitchens as under cabinet lighting and bathrooms as cove lighting.

Recessed lights install in the ceiling and project at various angles of lighting incident onto wall art, photography, or three-dimensional art.

They have also become quite popular for low-level accent lighting in guest baths and even some larger kitchens where cooking parties are a favored form of entertainment.

Surface mounted low voltage lights tend to be desk and floor lamps that add color and “washes” of light to reading areas, computer work areas, and personal dens.

They are highly favored in bedroom lighting as mood lights, and they can also be used as task lights in some home theater systems.

Does Phantom manufacture low voltage lighting systems?
Yes.

We manufacture six lines of linear strips, all of which can be custom ordered with either 12VAC or 24VAC magnetic transformers. These low voltage lighting systems are designed with aesthetics foremost in mind. Our transformers are smaller than competing models, and thus easier to conceal. The strips themselves are also easy to conceal because they keep such a low profile and hide themselves from normal viewing angles.

Phantom strip lights are easy to install, fully dimmable and available in all bulb types. Extra power savings and superior aesthetics can be achieved by investing in Phantom strips fitted with LED lamps.

Phantom LED technology rivals that of Xenon in lumens output and uses only 20% of the power of an incandescent system. Low voltage combined with dimmable LED replacement festoon lamps represents a power reduction unimaginable in the past, and proves ideal for commercial showcase lighting as well as residential display lighting.

In Cabinet Lighting with Puck Lights and Low Voltage Linear Lighting Strips.

In cabinet lights come in two main varieties: puck and linear strips: Puck lights mount in the center of the cabinet’s upper top space and shine illumination downward in a widening, circular spread.

Linear light strips mount either along the back vertical top or bottom wall space, or as in the case of a Phantom strip, along the top-front horizontal cabinet strut. Linear strip lighting in cabinets will cascade and radiate downward, resulting in a gentler and even wash of light that puck lights generally do.

Phantom LED cabinet lighting strips are ideal for all display cabinets with the exception of those with mirrored back planes. They also provide very good task lighting in kitchen cabinets above eye level where the wiring and fixture of puck lights may appear unsightly to visitors opening cabinet doors.

Knowing these basic facts helps one to determine in advance what will work best for a particular purpose, environment, and task. The following examples constitute general guidelines recommended by our US Lighting Agents as helpful points to consider when choosing between fixture types.

Over the Counter Kitchen Cabinets:
Linear in cabinet strip lights are better here for the reasons already mentioned above. A puck light in a kitchen cabinet will instantly stand out to anyone who opens the cabinet. Also, the wires, the fixture, and the more intense concentration of light will also tend to work against the decorative design elements of today’s larger, more hospitality oriented kitchens.

Under counter cabinets:
On the other hand, the opposite is usually true with larger kitchen cabinets near the floor where pots and pans are stored. Puck lights in these cabinets remain hidden from normal view, and the more intense output they produce makes it easier to find utensils and cookware more quickly.

Fine Antique and Curio Cabinets:
Linear strip lights in cabinets are almost always superior to puck lights when decorative appeal is the foremost consideration. Linear in cabinet custom lighting strips like the ones we manufacture at Phantom are designed to hide themselves along horizontal or vertical shelf edges. This allows the viewer to better see lighted contents without noticing the fixtures.

Retail Display Cabinets:
Sporting good stores often display guns in cabinets with a red back plane and a glass door that keeps weapons safe under lock and key. You also see similar cases also used to display expensive diamonds and gemstones. Cabinet lights in these environments need to be as sophisticated and as low profile as possible to not only showcase the value of expensive merchandise, but to also emphasize higher price points with a truly complimentary, luxury lighting fixture.

Linear strips with LED or low voltage xenon lamps are good choices for doing this much more effectively than puck lights.

Understanding the three basic uses of almost all cabinetry will go a long way toward simplifying the process of choosing the right in cabinet lights. In the most broad and general terms, cabinets are either functional, decorative, or a synthesis of function and display. Lighting in a cabinet should support its general function and compliment its form without visual distraction or physical obstruction. Display lighting in cabinets must also convey an additional decorative element that enhances contents as well as containment. It is necessary to have these basics fixed firmly in mind before trying to make any decisions on what to purchase for your kitchen, bathroom, or antique collectibles, or retail showcase display.

Phantom Lighting in cabinet light strips combine sophisticated decorum with practical energy efficiency and user-friendly installation and adjustment features found nowhere else in the world. Detailed technical documents and informative articles on all six of our strip lighting products can be found throughout our website. Phantom LED accent shelf lighting strips bring electric, rare, and highly aesthetic displays out of the shadows so everyone can see them.

Houses today are much larger and very different than they were in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Homes are now built with a level of customization previously reserved only for the Elite and their mansions. Because of this, the home interior design industries, as well as home lighting manufacturers, have exploded. Eclectic furniture and cabinetry has become a mainstay for making a home interior look equally unique and sophisticated in comparison to its exterior architecture. LED accent shelf lighting strips bring electric, rare, and highly aesthetic displays out of the shadows so everyone can see them. This adds accents task-oriented areas under cabinets with a decorative touch that achieves a more balanced aesthetic with kitchen and bathroom lighting design.

This emerging and very powerful linear LED lighting technology is just as important to corporations and retailers ad as it is to individual homeowners and families.

Living rooms and office spaces that decorate floor space with mini-libraries need led accent lighting because it offers the safest and least expensive source of hardback and rare book illumination. LED light bulbs radiate no ultraviolet or infrared light and will therefore not degrade the binding or lettering along the spine of a book. In office libraries that promote corporate value production with displays of technical and marketing literature, Phantom LED light strips make company branding readily evident to visiting clients. Our CM series strip light designed specifically for cove lighting also works very well in to set the right mood in offices and clinics where visitors wait for a short time in the lobby prior to meetings. LED accent strip lights produce a softer, more pleasant field of light that calms the mind and makes for a better exchange once the meeting is underway.

LED replacement lamps produce a form of illumination that very closely mimics certain qualities of traditional incandescent or xenon light sources. As such, they are ideal replacements for incandescent lamps that are fast becoming obsolete due to environmental concerns and recent legislation in California. Because Phantom LED’s are directional lights, they also focus a softer light more tightly in one direction and minimize excessive, radiant glare. They fulfill the specialty niche requirements of lighting displays, cabinets, and under cabinet lights found in bedrooms, living rooms, dens, kitchens, fine baths, and commercial interiors. People often invest hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in the finest cabinetry, display shelving, bookshelves, and eclectic furniture, only to realize that the interior of these fine pieces remains in shadow.

One might think of Phantom LED accent lights as low voltage lighting for fine furniture and cabinets.

Homeowners and businesses are not the only ones to benefit from riding this new wavelength of light. Jewelry stores who once exclusively relied upon fluorescent showcase lighting are now beginning to change their minds as they see what LED energy saving accent lighting can do for gold, silver, and gemstone displays. Fluorescent lights produce a great deal of reflective glare and aside from energy efficiency offer little value as a showcase lighting fixture for fine jewels.

LED’s, on the other hand, use even less electricity than fluorescent, and because of their directional wavelength, they minimize reflection just enough to make a diamond sparkle without blinding the shoppers’ eyes with glare. Diamond cuts look even more sophisticated—almost magical— under a combination of blue and white led accent cabinet lighting, and Phantom linear strips of different color temperatures can be combined in this way to produce a special effect unique to particular metals and gems. Guest areas in homes and meeting rooms in offices also look more sophisticated and feel more comfortable when any display, shelf, or cabinet is accented with LED light bulbs and LED lamps.

The cost of all this is shockingly low at Phantom Lighting. Even at normal voltage levels, LED accent lights never use more than 20% of the power required by other forms of lighting. Click here to read how this works.

Looking for a Cabinet Lighting Manufacturer? Check Out Phantom Lighting for Energy Saving LED Solutions!

Most cabinet lights are manufactured for either decorative lighting or functional under cabinet lighting. Individuals seeking a linear strip capable of fulfilling both requirements often have difficulty making a single purchase to accommodate their needs. This lack of dual-functionality in many fixtures led in part in part to the creation of Phantom Lighting, a unique manufacturer of cabinet lighting linear strips that can be used for both functional under cabinet task illumination or decorative accent showcasing.

Phantom linear strip lights can be used as either an under cabinet light or a display cabinet light, thus bundling more options into a single fixture that both saves on multiple purchase costs and conserves energy with superior engineering design

Because power cost is rapidly overtaking equipment costs as the primary factor in determining the value of an investment, energy efficient and newer, “green” technology becomes an matter of increasing consideration in light of alarming data on current global warming trends. In some parts of the world, fossil fuels are used to power electrical generators, so the conversation of electricity in turn can have a direct impact on the attempt to minimize and move away from fossil fuel reliance. Cabinet lighting manufacturers have had to answer to the demands of a global market that takes each of these factors into increasingly greater account as equivalent- if not more important- considerations to front end costs.

Today’s shift in the market is going to be a transitional process, as there is both a strong push in some corners to eliminate fossil fuels altogether and heavy resistance in other sectors that insist the oil, coal, and gas industries be maintained as long as time permits. Low voltage lighting manufacturers in California have been ordered by law to stop producing incandescent lights no later than 2010. This is not only to minimize energy uses, but also to eliminate noxious gases within the lamps themselves that have deleterious effects on the Earth’s ozone layer.

Short of a problematic, radical global change, this decision cannot and will not be accomplished overnight.

Because of this simple fact, Phantom Lighting has strategically positioned its value as a cabinet lighting manufacturer in the midpoint of the spectrum, so to speak. We cannot take an exclusionary approach to those who for economic reasons must rely upon incandescents for the time being. At the same time, we seek to do our part to answer the demands of conservation and emerge ultimately as leaders in the “green” movement that gathers momentum daily.

We therefore provide replacement LED festoon lamp options in 12VAC configurations to accommodate both preference and energy efficiency. We also lead our industry with a number of special patents that make certain elements of our technology simultaneously backward and forward compatible. The key to accomplishing this lies in the unique and highly proprietary process that we use to manufacture cabinet lighting strips themselves. We custom manufacture any cabinet or under cabinet LED lighting fixture to the exact specifications, dimensions, and application of client requirement. Our fixtures do not require traditional brackets to attach to cabinet surface areas. Instead, they utilize existing metal shelf standards to conduct electricity and do not require DC power inverters or the intrusive presence of visible wires.

Phantom low voltage cabinet lighting is designed for businesses and homeowners wanting to install display cabinet lighting.

Thus eliminating heat and power consumption by replacing physical wires with conductive mounts grounded safely to the cabinet itself. Phantom specialists spend a great deal of time in consultation; determining exact dimensions and material constitutions of individual low voltage displays and cabinets lighting. Low voltage lighting engineer’s custom cut each strip to provide a perfect match for both new builds and retrofit mounting. Phantom Lighting builds six different series of strip lights, knowing that different shelving and display designs require different types of mounting fixtures for shielded low voltage cabinet lighting.

Cabinets built by custom designers featuring fine finish and hand carved surfaces require the most seamless possible fit to avoid a visible fixture from detracting from craftsmanship and design. Our AC series strip lighting is perfect for this. It is designed for new build cabinets, so most of AC series customers are builders or cabinetmakers that order the strips pre-cut and physically build the fixture into the display.

For private commercial clients and homeowners looking to retrofit existing cabinets or add decorative flair to generic cabinetry, we carry a similar low voltage strip lighting for cabinets in our AE series. This cabinet light allows for greater flexibility with only slightly more visibility in the fixture itself. It is ideal for retrofitted installation onto existing shelves, and it can also dual function as a custom piece for new cabinets under construction.

The AC series does not provide total fixture concealment, but it is nonetheless can prove a highly decorative add-on to a plain or basic displays, and its many finish and color options can even add a slightly high-end touch to standard retail low voltage display cabinets. Lighting levels are controlled in both series with special glare shielding that prevents light “spillage” when viewed from either above or below eye level.

Both the AC series and AE series offer multiple lamping options, ranging from fluorescent to incandescent, on up to higher end xenon and state of the art LED light bulbs. The unique positioning of our smaller, festoon lamps makes for a more even “wash” of luminosity that creates both even distribution of photons and a more ambient light within the cabinet space itself.

Tell me more about your Phantom light strips and the patented adjustable shelf lighting concept.

My contractor suggested that I take a look at your adjustable shelf lighting system for some bookcases he is building for me. Can you please direct me to the right product for a new construction project. Thanks

PHANTOM STRIP LIGHTING SYSTEM can be installed in many different ways. For adjustable shelves, what you are looking for, the strip lighting system can be installed using two distinct wiring methods. The Phantom fixtures are the same, it is just the way the power is distributed to the individual shelves. The wiring method is so unique, that we were awarded a US Patent for the design and it carries an ETL Listing for safety and design. Here are links to both methods:

PHANTOM AE SERIES
adjustable exposed metal shelf support brackets

PHANTOM AC SERIES
adjustable concealed buss bar system for pin style supports

Both of these Phantom low voltage linear strip lighting systems are completely adjustable so that the shelves can we moved with to disconnect any wiring or the use of tools. If you were planning to paint or stain the cabinet I would go with the AE Series just to keep it simple. If you are using an exotic wood or just choose not to see the support brackets, I would go with the AE Series strip lights. Either way, you will love the results.

The AC Series is good for both new construction or remodel work. The AE Series, because of the concealed buss bar, is for new construction projects only. Please discuss both of these methods with your carpenter and he can explain to you the differences.

Please visit our website at http://www.phantomlighting.com/ for more information or cut sheets on all out specialty lighting products. We are an original equipment manufacturer who specializes in lighting for bookcases, breakfronts, cabinets, coves and other linear lighting applications. We also manufacturer the Phantom Contour Projector.
