The Benefits of Lighting Pictures With Phantom Contour Projectors

A picture is not the same as a painting, which is generally a synonym for fine art mounted on a vertical plane such as a wall.  Pictures tend to be a little smaller than many of the world’s famous masterpieces, and they represent a wide range of art types and genres.

Pictures themselves can be anything from watercolors, photography, mosaics, acrylics, renderings, portraits, antique maps, antique documents, and even rare stock certificates.  Many proud parents also frame their children’s certificates of achievement to be displayed on the wall or mantle with picture lights.  All of these require picture lights to be properly seen and fully enjoyed.

Most people quickly realize this once they spend hours decorating their walls, cabinet shelves, and desktops with all sorts of treasured images, only to realize at that point that room lights are not enough to bring out the true aspect of the images. Special picture lighting techniques are required to make pictures truly stand out and be clearly visible regardless of natural, or even standard indoor lighting levels.

Any number of fixtures ranging from picture frame lights to over-the-frame-mounted fixtures can be found with a quick online query.  Many of these items are very affordable and will perform adequately under very basic conditions.

For even an even better source of picture lighting, however, consider investing in a Phantom art projector to bring the best aspects of your personal image gallery into a better light.

Long renowned for their exceptionally safe and energy efficient lighting of delicate, rare, and original fine art, Phantom Projectors also provide an excellent method of lighting pictures of all types and sizes.  They also offer the added benefit of unobtrusive ceiling mounting that keeps them out of the viewer’s line of site.

There are a number of attributes unique to our projectors that contribute to their successful deployment in almost every commercial and residential arena where picture lighting needs that extra touch of elegance to make even diminutive works appear sublime in a special kind of light.

Phantom’s Lighted from Within Effect
The term “lighted from within” refers to the nature of the light that a Contour Projector creates around a photograph, print, picture, or any other type of image.  By passing light through two Pyrex condenser lenses and then a special optical design, we are able to render the beam itself virtually invisible.  When the beam then strikes the surface of a picture, it becomes visible as an ambient radiance that enshrouds the image and appears to actually radiate from within the piece.

This is an excellent way to showcase photography as art with accent lighting.  Especially in offices where Ansel Adams and other greats of the trade are commonly found in waiting areas and meeting rooms, the lighted from within effect adds a third dimension to the classic look and feel of black and white landscapes, portraits, and pictures of urban skylines.  Furthermore, a quick glance at the Phantom’s photometric capabilities found in our technical cut sheets will reveal that the Phantom produces a level of color rendering sophistication rarely found in other picture light that will bring out the richness of any highly pixilated, digital prints showcased and framed along the wall.

Lack of Ultraviolet and Infrared Light
Ultraviolet light degrades any form of living tissue and a wide range of inorganic materials as well.  It is absolutely destructive to artwork and must be eliminated to ensure preservation of the piece

The only remodel projector on the market  from Phantom Lighting produces little to no destructive infrared forward throw heat can dry and crack a variety of materials, including enamels found in mosaics.  Watercolors and acrylics will quickly dry out and crack open under many of the less expensive, retail over the frame picture lights people use in an attempt to save money.  This is due to proximity more than anything else, as over the frame lights are so close to the picture that the heat is literally right on top of the paint.

Phantom Projectors installations eliminate ultraviolet and infrared heat completely with a patented, proprietary bulb design consisting of a series of condensing and focal lenses.  Harmful wavelengths are filtered out before leaving the projector, sending only a “Cool Beam” of light to the surface of the picture.

User Friendly Control
Many lovers of art make a good living, but they are very conservative in their spending and do not want to pay a design firm every time to adjust the lighting every time they add new pictures to the collection or rearrange the decorative scheme.

Phantom Projectors allow users to make their own adjustments easily and safely.  All of our recessed fine art projectors can be fitted with dimmer switches that allow the homeowner to turn the light on the picture up or down.  It is not necessary to turn the light completely off in most cases, because Contour projectors are also low voltage art projector lights that consume only small amounts of electricity.

Also, a 75-watt low voltage halogen light source provides more light output with less heat, making this a safer solution compared to other optical framing projectors.

Even a novice installer can also manipulate the size and focus of the light.  Our site has a number of documents that can help you learn to do this, and our Lighting Agents will also offer technical support to Phantom Lighting customers at no additional cost.

Phantom Projectors come in four different models, such as our new construction projector, to ensure a proper fit in home and office ceilings.  We have models for track lighting and retrofit designs that do not require cutting the ceiling.
