Why Should Customers Consider An Under Cabinet Light?

How Can An Under Cabinet Light Solve Lighting Problems? When customers ask us which of our products can best highlight collectibles or illuminate hard to reach areas, we often point them to our under cabinet light solutions. These are in kitchens, bathrooms and anywhere where inconspicuous illumination is needed.  They are also especially useful in wall units and cabinets.  At Phantom Lighting, we have a commitment to provide superb service to customers that need creative illumination solutions.  Here are two ways that under cabinet light can solve these problems for our customers.

Finding the Right Fit:

For many installers and contractors, it can be difficult to add illumination to custom-made cabinets. That is due to the mostly standardized lengths of strip lighting. Also, adding new strips to older cabinets can also cause issues.

However, we pride ourselves on providing the latest technology and custom pieces. These can save a customer hassles when updating an older home or working with difficult cabinet dimensions.  Planning for lighting is ideal, but if the customer wants to upgrade their current setup, we can create a custom solution.

Reducing Glare:

We make sure to address not only sizing issues, but also what kind of mood the illumination creates. Most builders and contractors use bulbs with frosted lenses in order to reduce glare and intensity. The issues with these are that they can create harsh glares on countertop materials such as marble or tile. In attempting to deal with this issue, some professionals even allow the under cabinet strips to become visible.

With Phantom Lighting products, there are lots of features we use to help fix these issues. These benefits include:

  • Metal shielding to even the distribution of illumination
  • Focus on technology that reduces all kinds of glare, direct or indirect
  • Discreet positioning to the front end of cabinets, reducing glare
  • Compact size that makes cabinet illumination nearly invisible

With the options we provide for, under cabinet light, every customer should be able to find just what they’re wanting

Why Consider Buying Lighting Direct From Manufacturers?

Why Consider Buying Lighting Direct From Manufacturers?Buying lighting direct from the manufacturer is becoming more popular among homeowners for a few important reasons. Retail options are usually inferior to fixtures that can be purchased through manufacturers, and manufacturers are often willing to work with buyers to secure comparable pricing. Homeowners can also guarantee a better result by working with a company without a middleman. People interested in purchasing fixtures in this fashion will have a variety of choices, but Phantom is the ideal choice in this situation.

Why should homeowners consider buying lighting direct from manufacturers?

Shopping for illumination technology can be a frustrating experience, as there are so many products available, and they can all appear to be similar. Unfortunately, the market is flooded with inferior knockoffs that are designed to look like premium fixtures. These shoddily built fixtures won’t offer anything approaching the performance that premium products will, but many homeowners won’t realize this until the fixtures are installed. That is a major issue because even the smallest problems can mean big performance dips in the illumination industry.

Even retailers that offer reputable brands, though, will usually not stock the higher end technology, as this is reserved for particular clients. Homeowners that want something unique will often have no choice but to approach a manufacturer. That isn’t a bad thing, though, as manufacturers might be able to offer a product that the homeowner hadn’t even considered.

Retailers are generally not knowledgeable about the products they sell, which can be frustrating if there are any problems with the fixture. Manufacturers are intimately familiar with the products they sell and can provide solutions for any problems that come up. Many small manufacturers are also willing to maintain close communication with clients, ensuring that no problem goes unresolved.

For many years, the belief was that ordering through a manufacturer would cost much more than buying through a retailer. The reasoning for this is large manufacturers have dedicated distribution channels that they need to protect, and selling to clients outside of a distribution channel threatens their relationships with retailers. Smaller manufacturers, though, usually don’t have these dedicated distribution chains, so they are much more willing to offer competitive pricing.

Why should homeowners consider buying lighting direct from Phantom?

Phantom has been selling to homeowners since its foundation, and this is the way we prefer to do business. Phantom’s fixtures are strongly preferred among installers, architects, and electricians, and one of the reasons why is because Phantom can offer dedicated support. Phantom also customizes its products for every installation, something that larger manufacturers have trouble doing. For this reason, Phantom stands out even among smaller manufacturers and is the best choice for people looking to cut out the middleman.

Decorative Accent Lighting for Striking Ambience

Decorative accent lighting is easy with Phantom cove lighting that can be bent as needed.Decorative accent lighting for ceilings and foyers is very important in today’s living spaces. It fills the room with a sense of dimension by highlighting interior architecture in high places. General room lighting often misses these spots, leaving them in shadows. With custom linear strips, decorative accent lighting along ceiling coves dispels these shadows with a layer of decorative lighting that adds vertical impact to walls and dimension to the entire room.

But why use linear strips for decorative accent cove lighting? Why not use rope lighting? There are reasons for this. Rope lights are series lights, meaning each bulb depends on the preceding bulb in the series for electrical current. When a bulb fails, every bulb past that point goes off. This creates unattractive gaps in the distribution of light. What you need instead is a contiguous glow that emanates up from the ceiling cove and bathes the upper wall and roof in a gentle wash of ambient light.

You do not want bright spots in your decorative accent lighting. Some of the very cheap rope lights use bulbs with uncontrolled light distribution that will create visibly brighter emanations of light along the wall and ceiling. This, too, looks unattractive from an interior decor perspective in kitchen cove lighting.

Custom LED strip lighting fixtures save energy and overcome these barriers in a number of ways. The festoon lamps used by Phantom, for example, are focused by reflectors designed to even the wash of light contiguously along wall or ceiling surfaces. While there are many festoon lamps on each strip, what you end up seeing looks like light coming from a single, linear source.

You can not even see  the fixtures themselves. Our engineers have developed our custom decorative accent lighting technology to such a fine level of precision that it literally looks like light is coming out of the top of your ceiling cove from a mysterious, unseen source.

In the residential world, our luxury lighting products are used in custom home living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, and foyer entrances. Low voltage dimmers allow these lights to be lowered and raised at homeowner will so multiple moods for different occasions can be established by adjusting a few simple controls.

In the commercial world, restaurants, hotels, and casinos are using Phantom cove lights to fill large rooms with a sense of life, décor, vibrancy, and radiant light. These applications are highly cost effective thanks to Phantom Lighting’s LED festoon lamp technology. Now operating at only .6 watt per festoon, a Phantom LED strip light represents virtually no additional costs to an establishment’s lighting budge and practically no radiant heat output.

Our lighting fixture manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas. A network of nationwide lighting distributors and interior designers are located throughout all 50 states into cities like Ft. About Phantom Lighting Systems

Questions Often Asked About Phantom Lighting Systems

About Phantom's Fine Art and Display LightingWe are often asked about Phantom Lighting Systems. It is  a pioneer, Houston-based art lighting company and low voltage lighting manufacturer established in 1981 to supply the lighting and design community. Phantom Contour Projector and Phantom strip lights feature lighting technology that is completely unique, 100% proprietary, and found nowhere else in the world of lighting.

Phantom’s revolutionary approach to fine art picture lighting and low voltage display, shelf, and under cabinet lighting has taken it from humble origins to the level of an international leader in lighting manufacturing on two continents. We offer two unique products: Phantom Contour Art Lighting Projectors and Phantom LED and Xenon Linear Strip Lighting.

Phantom Contour Art Lighting Projectors

Phantom art lighting museum projectors feature ideal optics and photometric capabilities ideally suited to fine art illumination. These low voltage lighting projectors feature halogen light fixtures and produce a very unique quality of luminance called “the lighted from within effect.” Phantom’s recessed picture lighting is easy to install and extremely versatile, because of their small, compact size and small ceiling aperture.

Another quality about Phantom Lighting’s Projector is that it incorporates a parabolic aluminized reflector 75MR16/FO halogen based lamp in its design compared to other projectors. These lamps were originally used for the fiber optic industry, where detailed light focusing is required. The typical rated life of this lamp is around 4000 hours, giving the enthusiast of exquisite paintings plenty of time to enjoy their precious piece, before having to replace the bulb. The surface mount projector is the ideal choice for lighting any type of fine art. This adjustable framing projector has a sleek design, which is unobtrusive and perfect for accenting brush stroke details, along with other vital elements of your paintings. The design of Phantom art projector lights will ensure that your frames are pampered, so they are not damaged.

Phantom Linear Strip Lighting

Another product often asked about at Phantom Lighting is the LED strip lighting which will replace soon-to-be antiquated lighting sources of fluorescent and halogen light bulbs. Phantom strip lights utilize LED lamps that employ semiconductor technology to generate illumination. This reduces the risk of fire hazards that result from overheated lighting equipment and cuts cost on energy consumption. Phantom LED strip lighting delivers value to both commercial and residential lighting arenas and is sweeping the technology world as the wave of the future.

Another popular product customers ask about at Phantom Lighting is its most popular application for xenon under cabinet lighting. This is due to xenon’s ability to render both cool and warm colors with equal depth and distinction. Incandescent lighting also has a high CRI (color rendering index) when it comes to lighting cool colors such as white or off white counter tops. However, for the deep blues and reds commonly seen in today’s marble and granite counter tops, a more robust source of lighting like that produced with xenon festoons is preferable. Both granite and marble are hard composite stones with multiple layers of vibrantly colored minerals embedded in their substance.

Xenon linear under cabinet lights produce enough light to clearly illuminate the many complex colors and patterns in the stone while at the same time adding something of a three-dimensional look to the counter top. By extending the “depth” of the surface, reflective glare is minimized, making for a more chic and refined appearance appropriate to today’s larger, more elaborate custom kitchen and bathroom décor.

Our home lighting manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas. A network of nationwide distributorships and sales representatives fans out throughout all 50 states into cities like Scottsdale, Arizona, Seattle, Washington (SEA), Los Angeles, CA, (LAX) Boston, Massachusetts (BOS), Princeton, NJ (EWR), Philadelphia, PA, Dallas, Texas (DWF), Pasadena, California, Chicago, IL (ORD), Baltimore, MD (BWI), and Minneapolis, MN (MSP). We also service clients internationally, with Phantom Lighting Sales representatives working out of Canada, Mexico, Central America, and South America.

Phantom Lighting Systems

cp_application9What Makes Phantom Lighting Unique Among Lighting Fixture Manufacturers?

Phantom Lighting is a unique light fixture manufacturer for a number of reasons. Instead of creating an inventory of generic products that contractors and end users must figure out how to apply to custom needs, Phantom takes a basic model fine art projector or linear lighting strip and customizes it to the environment and needs of the individual client. This allows contractors to specifically address the needs of the end user in a personal fashion, and it allows end users to call their own shots when placing an order through a Phantom Agent. This uniqueness has earned Phantom a reputation for proprietary customization in fine art and display lighting products that have found their way into homes, offices, retail establishments, libraries, and museums throughout North, Central, and South America. The Contour projector has experienced worldwide acclaim for its magical “lighted from within” effect, and our linear display lighting strips are equally renowned for their near invisible presence, low voltage power savings, and wireless conduction of electricity.

Phantom leads the lighting industry in a pioneer of user-customization and technical optimization for commercial and residential illumination.

What Makes Phantom Contour Projectors Unique?

First of all, the Phantom combines a high-powered halogen light source with a complex, easily adjustable set of filters that keep the light free from UV and infrared radiation. Phantom manufactures five Contour Projector models that can be custom installed into any ceiling, seamlessly, without damage to the surrounding structure. Furthermore, each of these models is also designed to not only avoid any harm to the ceiling structure, but to also conceal its visible presence from the eye of the casual viewer. Clients who are looking for a sheik, sophisticated and professional presentation of their fine art collection can rely upon this art lighting projector to showcase the maximum value of their artwork and to also provide special effect and mood-related lighting upon command.

Can Phantom fine art projectors showcase rare and valuable paintings?

Yes. Because of the Contour fine art projectors amazing ability to filter out UV and ultraviolet light, collectors in both private and public arenas rely upon Phantom projectors to showcase and protect their most rare and valuable paintings. Phantom Projectors also produce a superior spectrum of light that rivals natural light with none of is deleterious effects.

How do other forms of art appear when lit with a Contour fine art projector?

Photography, pastels, personal oils, and watercolors will look superb both in color and in depth when illuminated by the Contour’s “lighted from within” effect.

This phenomenon is produced by passing the light through a series of lenses and filters that makes the beam itself invisible until it strikes the surface of a painting or sculpture.

What Makes Phantom Linear Cabinet Lights Unique?

Phantom custom cabinet lights are unique in their ability to conceal their physical appearance and also in the unique way they conduct electricity. Our linear cabinet lighting strips do not use visible wires to power their lamps, but rather use existing metal shelf standards to conduct low voltage electricity safely and reliably. Each AC Series linear strip is custom cut to the exact dimensions of the vertical or horizontal surface to which it will be mounted. One of our six model lines is actually designed to be mounted to curved surfaces and can be fitted to any cove or vaulted ceiling in a home or office.

Your choice of xenon, incandescent, or LED lamps will be installed in your linear strip at the time of manufacture, and these lamps will be fitted to festoon mounts than can be individually replaced if a bulb fails so you do not have to replace the entire strip light. See how our festoon lamps compare between lamp types.

How well do these linear strips perform as cabinet lights?

In most cabinet lighting and under cabinet lighting applications, Phantom linear strips are ideal for commercial and residential environments. Because of their “adjustable shelf” technology, they can work with any type of custom shelving found in cabinets, commercial displays, residential armoires, and bookshelves. Three different lamping options are available as well: incandescent, xenon, and super power-saving LED. Phantom cabinet lighting strips can be manufactured as 12V linear strips that maximize energy conservation without compromising the intensity or quality of the light. They also feature dimmer controls that allows for instantaneous adjustment of brightness levels. This makes them ideal low voltage night lights in custom kitchens, break rooms, and bathroom vanity areas. They are also a favorite of librarians and antique dealers, who find the low ambient lighting they emit to be ideal for producing decorative effects that enhance the appearance of rare hardbacks and collectibles.

Is Low Voltage Display Lighting Really That Important?

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of low voltage cabinet lighting installations. Incandescent and xenon bulbs can run up a light bill very quickly, but when regulated by a low voltage transformer, produce the same quality of light at a fraction of the power. This is good for both the environment and for the pocketbook, and it is also ideal for the corporation seeking LEED certification. This is especially true when considering cove lighting fixtures.

Combining a low voltage strip with an LED lamp compounds power savings with the latest and most sophisticated science of illumination to date.

LED Light Bulbs

LED festoon lamps can be installed in Phantom cabinet lighting, display lighting, or cove lighting strip at the time of manufacture. LED light bulbs last longer than any other form of bulb, can render the full spectrum of light, including white light, and require only 20% as much electricity as other bulb types. Combine that with a low voltage strip that is already designed for power savings, and you have the most sophisticated and energy conscious cabinet or display lighting strip that current technology allows.

LED replacement festoon lamps can also be ordered separately and retrofitted to existing linear strips. Ask a Lighting Agent about the benefits of festoon lamp replacement as a possible contributor toward LEED certification.

LED Jewelry Display Case Lighting Fixtures, Strip Lighting, Low Voltage Linear Xenon Lighting Strips.

Linear strips provide an ideal source of jewelry display lighting. They offer a concealed physical presence combined with evenly distributed illumination that is excellent for showcasing collections of jewelry laid out on pedestals or cloth backings. Using low voltage cabinet lighting strips in jewelry display cases with mirrored back planes is generally not advised, though, because the mirror will reflect an image of the fixture and reflective glare back into the eyes and distract attention away from the merchandise.

Cabinet strip lights also provide jewelry displays with a versatility of lamping options and light levels that can be fine-tuned to fully accent the visual qualities of both the type and substance of jewelry on display. Different bulbs create different types of light, and the choice of which type of lamp to install in your linear strip depends greatly on the size of your showcase, the type of jewelry you are displaying, and the color of the background you use.

Jewelry display lights require heavy glare shielding that will angle the light toward the merchandise and reflect only enough light back into the eyes to make it sparkle. The remainder of the light should evenly “wash” over the surface of metal and gemstones, showcasing contours, cuts, and any engravings over the surface.

The more three-dimensional its appearance is, the more valuable a piece of jewelry appears to the eye. Too much accent lighting will flatten the appearance of gold, diamonds, and silver pieces by casting startling “white” spots on their surfaces. Too little light, on the other hand, will fail to add the necessary sparkle that is essential to high-ticket merchandising.

For these reasons, it is almost always best to use a low-voltage linear lighting strip that has user-friendly dimmer controls that will allow you to adjust your jewelry display lights to the precise level necessary to showcase a given piece or collection of items. One advantage this offers you is the ability to use the same show case for different pieces on a rotating basis and simply turn the lights up or down when you set up a new display.

Low voltage lighting systems are also a great power saver that help will minimize your overhead. Especially if you are own a small, family store, cost effective lighting can make your facility look high-end and one of a kind without the burden of high expenditures.

As for the actual bulb types used in jewelry display lighting, much of your choice depends on the style and colors of the items on display. Fluorescent lights, long-valued for their power saving value, are used much less than they were in the past. Other forms of low voltage lighting have become competitive with fluorescent in terms of reduced power costs, and these other bulb types tend to produce better types of lighting as well. High-ticket merchandise generally requires a light source more appropriate to its dimensions and color than fluorescent is normally able to deliver.

Pearls, silver, and light colored jewelry such as opal look exquisite under incandescent lamps that bring out the whites, off whites, and the glint of 14K gold. For warmer colors like those seen in an emerald or sapphire, a more robust light source makes for an even better source of jewelry display lighting. Either low voltage xenon lighting, which cast something of a “golden” aura around the subject, or specialty LED strip lights available in a multitude of colors will enhance both the darker colors and multi-dimensional appearance of exquisitely cut, rare jewelry.

Phantom display light strips feature all the necessary technical elements required for optimal jewelry display lighting, and they also provide the added benefit of customization. Phantom custom-manufacturers each individual lighting strip precisely to the dimensions of your jewelry display, and your Phantom Lighting Agent works with you to determine which bulb type(s) will be most effective for specific showcases.

Phantom lighting strips are low-voltage and fully dimmable, and they come in six different series models. Each series features patented glare shielding and proprietary lamping designs that creates a bright, yet soft field of light with minimal reflection but just enough shine to precious metals and gemstones sparkle.

Our US lighting agents work with retail managers, distributors and lighting consultants to help them choose both the series type and appropriate bulb types essential tor high-end jewelry display lighting. Agents work throughout North, Central, and South America and offer their consultations as a courtesy to our clients.

We developed our technology specifically to enhance art with a timeless and mythic sense of eternal lighting.

Answers.com defines a Phantom as “Something apparently seen, heard, or sensed, but having no physical reality; a ghost or an apparition.” We chose the word Phantom to illustrate the function and essence of our patented technology with an archetypal symbol whose universal appeal speaks to all ages and intrigues even the most analytical and skeptical of minds. Phantoms almost never appear as tangible forms to the viewer, but their activities and tangible presence is the stuff of both legend and documentary. On film they often appear as brilliant flashes of light that emanate from another dimension. Phantom projectors and strip lights produce light around artwork and within displays in much the same manner, making them the ghosts of the lighting machine that create magical effects and spatial fields of eminent light that appear sourceless and timeless.

In almost every mythology, a Phantom remains invisible, and if it is seen at all, it appears as a luminous aura that surrounds a place of significance. Legends often equate visitations to sacred locations or areas within an old mansion or castle where significant events occurred. Man has always placed special significance on certain places and events, and man has always recorded that significance either has history, myth, or some form of art. We developed our LED technology specifically to enhance art with a timeless and mythic sense of eternal lighting. We created fixtures that the eye cannot see and special photometric lenses that hide the beams of light radiating from bulbs and lamps. Just like the ghosts of legend and popular documentary, it is almost impossible to see a Phantom Projector or Strip Light, but you always see and feel the effects of its presence.

When you look at a painting illuminated by a Phantom Projector, you actually see a field of light surrounding both the picture and the frame. This effect is known as “lighting from within,” and it adds a third dimension to any two dimensional artwork that creates a living presence around the canvas, oils, and ornately carved wooden frame. Private collectors of art and commercial art galleries alike concur that this is the best way to light a painting, as it eliminates the physical obtrusion of traditional picture lights and does away as well with a visible beam of light produced by standard projectors. The eternal nature of art is also best revealed in the preserving light of Phantom. Our technology filters all infrared and ultraviolet light from the beam prior to it touching the canvas. With a color-rendering index equivalent to natural light, but exponentially safer to use with delicate and antique paints and surfaces, Phantom brings the past into the present and extends it without harm or degradation into annals of continued, future fame. Phantom is much more than just a lighting manufacturer. We are lighting scientists.

Understanding the unique properties of light is what enabled us to develop our breakthrough patents in display and showcase lighting technology. Light is the only phenomenon in the Universe that fills a space without consuming space. By applying this absolute law of physics with a less-is-more approach to fixture design, Phantom developed a wireless strip light that conducts either low voltage or standard voltage signals safely and invisibly through metal shelf standards using LED lamps. The lighting strip hugs the surface so well it actually blends into its surroundings invisibly. Small, tiny lamps along the strip radiate light into the enclosed space, filling every cubic centimeter with a balanced luminosity that enshrouds and accents books, jewels, porcelain, ornate carvings, and photography; and adds beauty to the function and form of fine cabinetry and vaulted ceiling coves.

Mystique defines the essence of Phantom, bringing eclecticism, advanced technology, mystery, and sophistication into a synthesis of light that makes art become alive and life itself a work of art now made visible in a whole new light. Click here to read informative articles that contain a world of information on how to apply this revolution in both physics and aesthetics, and click here to learn more about the lighting technology itself.
